TO FAITH CHUCK,
MY BELOVED WIFE,
YOU'RE MY STRENGTH. THIS BOOK IS FOR YOU, MY
CONSTANT SUPPORT.
Chapter by chapter, we unravel the truths that will equip and empower us to
speak God's language with authenticity, faith, and love. We discover that the Holy
Spirit, the Word of God, faith, and love are the key elements that enable us to
commune with our Heavenly Father in a language that transcends human
comprehension. We learn how to pray in the spirit, allowing the Holy Spirit to
guide our words and align them with the will of God. We uncover the
transformative power of God's Word and its ability to shape our thoughts, words,
and actions in accordance with His divine plan.
Throughout this book, we draw inspiration from biblical accounts, such as the
story of Sarah and Abram in the Book of Jasher, where they spoke God's language
and witnessed His intervention and deliverance. These narratives serve as guiding
lights, illuminating the principles and practices that enable us to speak God's
language and experience the fullness of His presence, guidance, and
transformation.
In the vast realm of spirituality and faith, communication with the divine is a
fundamental aspect of human existence. We yearn to connect with a higher
power, seeking guidance, comfort, and a deeper understanding of our purpose.
However, there is a common mistake that many individuals unknowingly make in
their pursuit of communication with God - speaking to Him in their own language.
When we speak to God in our own language, we rely on our limited human
understanding, influenced by our thoughts, emotions, and personal biases. We
often approach prayer or meditation from a place of self-centeredness, focusing
solely on our desires, fears, and needs. But the truth is, God does not understand
this language of the human mind and ego. He operates on a higher plane,
communicating through His own divine language.
So, what is God's language? It is the language of His Word. The Bible, or any
sacred scripture, is not merely a collection of ancient texts; it is the very language
through which God speaks to us. The Word of God is alive and active, carrying
divine wisdom, truth, and guidance. When we communicate with God using His
language, we align ourselves with His divine will and open the channels of divine
communication.
To aid us in speaking God's language, He has graciously given us the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit is the embodiment of God's presence and power within us. It is
through the Holy Spirit that we can tap into the language of God, enabling us to
communicate with Him in a way that transcends human limitations. When we
pray in the spirit, guided by the Holy Ghost, we are speaking God's language in
faith, even when we don't fully understand what we are saying. As long as we
speak this language, we are safe and connected to the divine source of wisdom
and strength.
However, speaking God's language goes beyond mere words and expressions. It
encompasses the language of love. God's nature is love, and when He speaks, He
speaks from a place of pure, unconditional love. Therefore, when we approach
God in prayer or any form of communication, it is essential to speak from a place
of love, not doubt, fear, complaint, or hatred. Love is the language that resonates
with His heart and brings us into deeper communion with Him.
Speaking to God in our own language often stems from a place of limited
understanding. Our human minds have finite knowledge and perspectives, and
when we rely solely on our own language, we may overlook the broader wisdom
and guidance available to us. This can lead to a lack of clarity, misunderstanding,
and misguided prayers.
Furthermore, speaking to God in our own language can result in prayers driven by
selfish desires rather than aligning with God's will. We may become consumed by
our own needs, wants, and fears, neglecting to seek His guidance and surrender
to His divine plan. This self-centred approach hinders our ability to fully
experience the transformative power of divine communication.
The consequences of speaking to God in our own language are not due to God's
limitations or inability to understand us. Rather, they arise from our own
limitations and the barriers we create through our limited perspective and
emotional baggage. God, being all-knowing and all-loving, desires to
communicate with us in a way that transcends our human limitations. He longs
for us to communicate with Him in His language, which encompasses His Word,
the Holy Spirit, faith, and love.
When we overcome the tendency to rely on our own language and embrace
God's language, we unlock the full potential of divine communication. By
immersing ourselves in His Word, praying in the spirit guided by the Holy Spirit,
speaking in faith, and expressing our hearts from a place of love, we enter into a
profound and transformative relationship with the divine.
In this journey, we discover that speaking God's language is not a mere linguistic
exercise but a paradigm shift in our approach to communication with the
Almighty. It requires humility, surrender, and an openness to receive His guidance
and direction. As we align our communication with His language, we tap into a
realm of unlimited wisdom, strength, and grace. Our prayers become a divine
dialogue, where we commune with the Creator of the universe and experience
His presence in our lives.
Additionally, speaking God's language requires the involvement of the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit, who dwells within believers, serves as a divine translator, enabling
us to communicate with God at a deeper level. Through the Holy Spirit, we are
empowered to pray in the spirit, speaking mysteries that go beyond our human
understanding. This spiritual language, infused with faith, connects us intimately
with God and allows us to experience the supernatural in our communication
with Him.
By communicating with God on His terms, we also express our love and reverence
for Him. Love is the language that resonates with God's heart. When we speak to
Him from a place of love, we demonstrate our devotion, trust, and adoration. This
love language opens up channels of intimacy and deepens our relationship with
Him.
Recognizing the need to communicate with God on His terms is not a burdensome
obligation but an invitation to experience the fullness of His presence and
guidance. It is an opportunity to tap into His infinite wisdom, strength, and love.
Through embracing His language, we position ourselves to receive His blessings,
experience transformation, and walk in alignment with His divine purposes.
Chapter 2: The Holy Spirit as God's
Language
Exploring the Role of the Holy Spirit in Enabling Us to Speak God's Language
In our journey to speak God's language, one crucial aspect is understanding the
role of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is not only a divine presence within us but
also the language through which God communicates with us and we
communicate with Him.
The Scriptures provide us with numerous passages that reveal the significance of
the Holy Spirit in enabling us to speak God's language. One such verse is found in
Romans 8:26-27 (NIV), which says,
This passage highlights that the Holy Spirit comes alongside us in our weaknesses,
assisting us in our communication with God. When we don't know what to pray
for or how to express ourselves, the Holy Spirit intercedes on our behalf. He
speaks God's language through wordless groans, aligning our prayers with the
perfect will of God. Through the Holy Spirit, our communication with God goes
beyond human limitations, enabling us to tap into the depths of His wisdom and
understanding.
Furthermore, in 1 Corinthians 2:10-12 (NIV), we read, "these are the things God
has revealed to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep
things of God. For who knows a person's thoughts except their own spirit within
them? In the same way, no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of
God. What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is
from God so that we may understand what God has freely given us."
These verses emphasize that the Holy Spirit enables us to comprehend the deep
things of God. Just as our own spirit knows our thoughts, the Spirit of God knows
the thoughts of God. Through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, we gain access to
divine revelation and understanding. He enlightens our minds, opens our hearts,
and helps us grasp the truths contained in God's language. As we yield to the
leading of the Holy Spirit, our ability to speak and understand God's language
becomes more pronounced.
Another vital aspect of the Holy Spirit as God's language is the gift of speaking in
tongues or praying in the spirit. In 1 Corinthians 14:2 (NIV), we read,
"For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to people but to
God. Indeed, no one understands them; they utter mysteries by the
Spirit."
This verse highlights that when we pray in tongues, we are speaking directly to
God in a language that goes beyond human comprehension. It is a language given
to us by the Holy Spirit, a heavenly language that connects us intimately with God
and allows us to communicate at a deeper level.
The Holy Spirit, as the language of God, empowers us to speak and understand
God's language. Through His intercession, revelation, and the gift of speaking in
tongues, He enables us to communicate with God in ways that transcend human
limitations. As we embrace the role of the Holy Spirit in our lives, we open
ourselves up to a richer and more vibrant relationship with God, experiencing His
presence, guidance, and transformational power in our communication with Him.
The Bible provides us with insights into the significance of praying in the spirit. In
Ephesians 6:18 (NIV), the apostle Paul encourages believers by saying,
When we pray in the spirit, we surrender our natural understanding and rely on
the Holy Spirit to guide our prayers. As we yield to His leading, He helps us pray
according to God's perfect will. Romans 8:26-27 (NIV) confirms this truth:
Praying in the spirit allows the Holy Spirit to intercede through us, aligning our
prayers with God's desires and bringing about His purposes.
Praying in the spirit also deepens our intimacy with God. In 1 Corinthians 14:2
(NIV), Paul states,
Furthermore, praying in the spirit strengthens our faith. Jude 1:20 (NIV)
encourages believers, saying,
When we engage in praying in the spirit, our faith is edified and fortified. It is an
act of faith in itself, as we trust in the Holy Spirit to guide our prayers and believe
that He is interceding on our behalf. Praying in the spirit helps us develop a
vibrant and active faith, enabling us to see God's power manifested in our lives
and circumstances.
L EARNING HOW TO PRAY IN THE S PIRIT AND COMMUNICATE EFFECTIVELY WITH GOD
Learning how to pray in the spirit is a vital aspect of speaking God's language and
deepening our communication with Him. It is through this spiritual form of prayer
that we can effectively convey our hearts to God and receive His guidance,
comfort, and direction. Here, we will explore the process of learning to pray in the
spirit and how it enables us to communicate with God in a powerful and
transformative way.
1. Seek the Baptism of the Holy Spirit: The first step in learning to pray in the
spirit is to seek the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Jesus Himself promised the Holy
Spirit to His disciples in Acts 1:8, saying, "But you will receive power when the
Holy Spirit comes on you." This empowering experience equips believers with the
ability to pray in the spirit and opens up a deeper level of communication with
God. Seek the baptism of the Holy Spirit through prayer and a sincere desire to
experience the fullness of God's presence in your life.
6. Practice and Persevere: Learning to pray in the spirit is a journey that requires
practice and perseverance. It may take time to develop comfort and fluency in
praying in tongues or allowing the Holy Spirit to direct your prayers. But do not be
discouraged; instead, commit yourself to regular prayer and seek opportunities to
pray in the spirit. As you persist, you will experience growth and transformation in
your ability to communicate effectively with God.
Chapter 3: The Word of God as God's
Language
The Word of God, found in the Scriptures, serves as God's language through
which He communicates with humanity.. By immersing ourselves in the Word, we
gain a deeper understanding of how God speaks and thinks, enabling us to
communicate with Him in His terms.
1. The Divine Revelation: The Scriptures, inspired by the Holy Spirit, provide us
with divine revelation of God's character, His will, and His plans for humanity.
Through the Bible, we gain insights into God's language and how He desires to
communicate with us. As we study the Scriptures, we begin to grasp the depth of
God's love, His wisdom, and His purposes, allowing us to align our communication
with His divine nature.
7. Connecting with God's Heart: The Scriptures reveal the heart of God and His
desires for His creation. They provide us with narratives, teachings, and
prophecies that display God's love, grace, and mercy. Through the Word, we gain
insight into God's desires, and our communication with Him becomes a means of
connecting with His heart. The Scriptures help us understand God's desires for us,
our purpose, and the ways in which we can align our lives with His will. By
studying the Scriptures, we gain a deeper understanding of His love for humanity,
His desire for relationship, and His plans for our lives. This understanding allows
us to communicate with God from a place of intimacy and alignment with His
heart.
9. Equipping Us for Every Good Work: 2 Timothy 3:16-17 tells us, "All Scripture is
God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in
righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every
good work." Studying the Scriptures equips us with the knowledge and wisdom
needed to navigate life and fulfil our purpose. It provides us with guidance,
instruction, and correction, enabling us to communicate with God effectively as
we seek to live out His will in every aspect of our lives.
1. Praying God's Promises: The Bible is filled with promises that God has made to
His people. These promises cover various aspects of our lives, including provision,
healing, guidance, and protection. When we pray God's promises back to Him, we
demonstrate our faith in His Word and His faithfulness to fulfil what He has
spoken. By speaking His language of promises, we declare our trust in His
character and invite His intervention in our circumstances.
3. Praying God's Will: The Word of God reveals His will and desires for His people.
As we study the Scriptures, we gain insights into His heart and purposes. When
we pray, incorporating God's will as revealed in His Word, we align our desires
with His and invite His kingdom to manifest in our lives. By using Scripture to
express our prayers, we communicate with Him in a way that resonates with His
divine plans and brings about effective results.
5. Using Psalms and Hymns: The book of Psalms serves as a rich resource for
prayer and worship. The psalmists expressed their joys, sorrows, praises, and
laments through poetic language, providing us with a language to communicate
with God. Incorporating psalms and hymns into our prayers allows us to express
our emotions and experiences in a way that resonates with God's heart. It helps
us articulate our deepest thoughts and feelings while offering worship and
adoration to our Creator.
7. Allowing the Word to Transform Us: As we incorporate the Word of God into
our prayers, it has a transformative effect on our lives. The Scriptures are not
merely a means of communication but also a vehicle for personal growth and
spiritual formation. As we engage with the Word, it renews our minds, convicts us
of sin, encourages us, and strengthens our faith. This transformation allows us to
communicate with God more effectively, reflecting His character and bringing
glory to His name.
Chapter 4: The Power of Faith
Faith is the language of God, and it holds tremendous power in our relationship
with Him. In this case, we will explore the significance of faith as God's language
and its transformative effect on our communication with Him.
These verses emphasize the importance of faith in our relationship with God.
Faith is the currency of heaven, the language that connects us to the divine realm.
It is through faith that we please God and receive His rewards. When we speak
the language of faith, mountains are moved, prayers are answered, and miracles
happen.
Faith is rooted in believing and trusting in God's promises. When we study His
Word, we discover the multitude of promises He has given us. As we meditate on
these promises and declare them in faith, our confidence in God's faithfulness
grows, strengthening our ability to communicate with Him effectively.
Our words hold immense power, and when we speak words of faith, we align
ourselves with God's language. The Word of God is the foundation of our faith,
and as we speak His promises and declarations, we activate His power in our lives.
Our words become a means of communicating with God, expressing our trust in
Him and declaring His truth.
5. Growing in Faith
- Romans 10:17 - "So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word
of Christ."
- Jude 1:20 - "But you, beloved, building yourselves up in your most holy faith
and praying in the Holy Spirit."
6. Overcoming Doubt:
- Mark 9:23 - "And Jesus said to him, 'If you can! All things are possible for one
who believes.'"
- James 1:5-6 - "If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives
generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. But let him ask in
faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is
driven and tossed by the wind."
Doubt hinders the language of faith and weakens our communication with God.
However, as we cultivate a steadfast belief in His promises, we overcome doubt
and tap into the limitless possibilities available through faith. God responds to the
unwavering faith of His children and fulfils His promises to those who believe.
Understanding how speaking God's language of faith builds our
relationship with Him
- Proverbs 3:5-6 - "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not
lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make straight your paths."
Speaking God's language of faith reflects our deep trust in Him. It shows
that we rely on His wisdom and guidance rather than our own
understanding. As we acknowledge Him in all areas of our lives and express
our confidence in His ability to lead us, our relationship with Him deepens.
God is pleased when we approach Him with faith, and He responds by
rewarding those who seek Him wholeheartedly.
2. Co-creating with God:
- Matthew 17:20 - "He said to them, 'Because of your little faith. For
truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you
will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move,
and nothing will be impossible for you.'"
- Psalm 37:4 - "Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the
desires of your heart."
4. Strengthened Identity:
5. Pleasing God:
In our journey of communicating with God, one of the most powerful tools
we have is the Scriptures. The Word of God is not just a collection of
ancient writings; it is living and active, sharper than any double-edged
sword (Hebrews 4:12). It carries the very essence of God's language,
enabling us to connect with Him in a profound and transformative way.
- Isaiah 55:11 - "So shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it
shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I
purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it."
God's Word is potent and effective. When we speak His Word, it carries
the authority and power to accomplish His purposes. It is not a mere
recitation of verses; it is a declaration of truth that aligns us with His will
and activates His divine intervention in our lives. As we learn to use the
Scriptures in prayer, we tap into the unlimited potential of God's Word to
bring about transformation, breakthrough, and fulfilment of His promises.
- 2 Corinthians 1:20 - "For all the promises of God find their Yes in
him. That is why it is through him that we utter our Amen to God for
his glory."
The Scriptures are filled with promises from God, revealing His nature, His
plans, and His faithfulness. When we use these promises in our prayers, we
are aligning ourselves with His truth and inviting His faithfulness into our
situations. Praying God's promises strengthens our faith, reminding us of
His unwavering love and commitment to fulfil His Word. It allows us to
confidently declare His promises, knowing that they are "Yes" and "Amen"
in Christ.
When we use the Scriptures to talk to God, we are anchoring our prayers
in His truth. The Word of God illuminates our path, guiding us in His ways
and revealing His wisdom. It provides clarity and direction in times of
confusion and uncertainty. By declaring God's truth in our prayers, we invite
His guidance, wisdom, and revelation to flow into our lives. We surrender
our own limited understanding and rely on His infinite wisdom and
knowledge.
4. Engaging in Spiritual Warfare:
- Ephesians 6:17 - "And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword
of the Spirit, which is the word of God."
The Scriptures are not only a defensive armour but also an offensive
weapon in spiritual warfare. When we pray God's Word, we wield the sword
of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. It is through His Word that we
overcome the schemes of the enemy, demolish strongholds, and
experience victory in the spiritual realm. Praying God's Word releases the
authority and power of His truth, driving out darkness and establishing His
kingdom in our lives and circumstances.
- Jeremiah 29:12-13 - "Then you will call upon me and come and
pray to me, and I will hear you. You will seek me and find me when
you seek me with all your heart."
Praying God's Word also helps us overcome doubt and unbelief. The
Scriptures are a testimony of God's faithfulness throughout history. As we
declare His promises and recount His faithfulness, our faith is strengthened.
We are reminded of His track record of delivering His people, performing
miracles, and fulfilling His Word. By praying God's Word, we shift our focus
from our circumstances to the eternal truth of His Word, and we invite His
supernatural intervention into our situations.
Moreover, praying God's Word aligns our prayers with His will. The Bible is
the ultimate revelation of God's character, His desires, and His plans for
humanity. As we immerse ourselves in the Scriptures, we begin to
understand His heart and align our prayers with His purposes. We pray
according to His promises and seek His guidance in every aspect of our
lives. By praying His Word, we ensure that our petitions are in harmony with
His divine will, and we open ourselves up to receive His perfect answers and
blessings.
.
Chapter 5: Filling Our Spirit with the Word
Understanding how faith is built and strengthened through the Word of God
Faith is a foundational aspect of our relationship with God. It is through faith that
we receive salvation, experience His power, and walk in His promises. In this
space , we will examine the close relationship between faith and hearing the
message of Christ, emphasizing the vital role that the Word of God plays in
building and nurturing our faith.
The Bible tells us in Romans 10:17, "So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing
by the word of God." This verse highlights the importance of hearing and
receiving the message of Christ as a means to develop and grow in faith. When we
expose ourselves to the Word of God, whether through reading, studying, or
hearing it proclaimed, our faith is activated and strengthened.
Hearing the message of Christ refers to more than just the act of listening to
words. It involves engaging with the Word on a deeper level, allowing it to
penetrate our hearts and minds, and responding to it with a receptive and
obedient spirit. As we hear the Word of God, the Holy Spirit works within us,
illuminating its truths, convicting us of sin, and inspiring us to trust and believe in
God's promises.
Second, the Word of God contains countless promises and assurances that we can
hold onto in times of uncertainty and challenges. When we encounter trials, the
Word reminds us of God's faithfulness, His provision, and His power to deliver us.
It instills in us a hope that goes beyond our circumstances and enables us to trust
in God's goodness and sovereignty.
Lastly, the Word of God equips us with spiritual weapons to overcome doubt,
fear, and the attacks of the enemy. Through the Scriptures, we gain insight into
the strategies of the enemy and discover the power and authority we have in
Christ. As we meditate on the Word and declare it in faith, we engage in spiritual
warfare and experience victory over the forces of darkness.
Through the study of God's Word, we encounter stories of men and women who
demonstrated remarkable faith. From Abraham's unwavering trust in God's
promise of a son to David's bold confidence in facing Goliath, we witness how
faith in God can move mountains and bring about extraordinary breakthroughs.
These accounts serve as inspirations and models for us to follow as we navigate
our own journeys of faith.
The study of God's Word equips us with spiritual knowledge and wisdom. We gain
understanding about the nature of God, His ways, and His purposes. The
Scriptures reveal His redemptive plan for humanity, His desire for reconciliation,
and His invitation to experience abundant life through faith in Jesus Christ. As we
look into the depths of Scripture, we discover the truths that set us free and
enable us to live victoriously.
However, studying God's Word is not enough on its own. Faith is not merely an
intellectual exercise but a conviction that leads to action. Therefore, the
declaration of God's Word is an essential part of building and activating our faith.
Proclaiming the promises and truths of Scripture aligns our hearts and minds with
God's truth and allows His Word to take root within us.
In summary , building faith through the study and declaration of God's Word is a
transformative journey that deepens our relationship with God and empowers us
to live as people of faith. By immersing ourselves in the Scriptures, we gain insight
into God's character and His promises. As we boldly declare His Word, we align
ourselves with His truth and experience the power of His presence in our lives. Let
us commit ourselves to the diligent study and declaration of God's Word, knowing
that it is through this process that our faith is nurtured, our hearts are
transformed, and our lives are aligned with the purposes of God.
Exploring the importance of having the Scriptures in our spirit and allowing
the Word to fill and overflow within us is a crucial aspect of our spiritual
growth and transformation.
Having the Scriptures in our spirit means more than merely memorizing
verses or having a surface-level understanding of the Bible. It involves a
deep and intimate connection with God's Word, where the truths and
principles of Scripture become an integral part of our being. When the
Word is stored within us, it becomes a source of guidance, comfort, and
wisdom in every situation we encounter.
One of the primary reasons for having the Scriptures in our spirit is the
transformative power of God's Word. In Romans 12:2, it says, "Do not
conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the
renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what
God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will." As we internalize the
Word of God, it renews our minds, reshapes our thinking patterns, and
aligns us with the mind of Christ. It enables us to discern God's will and
make choices that are pleasing to Him.
When the Word fills and overflows within us, it affects every aspect of our
lives. It shapes our thoughts, attitudes, and perspectives. It guides our
decision-making and influences our behaviour. In Colossians 3:16, it says,
"Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and
admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and
songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts." As
we allow the Word to dwell richly within us, it spills over into our
interactions with others, leading us to speak and act with wisdom and
grace.
Having the Scriptures in our spirit and allowing the Word to fill and
overflow within us is not a one-time event but a continual process. It
requires a daily commitment to engage with God's Word, seeking to
understand its truths and apply them to our lives. As we consistently
meditate on the Word, its power becomes increasingly evident in our
thoughts, words, and actions.
.
Chapter 6: Communication Breakdown: The
Consequences of Neglecting God's Word
2. Lack of Direction and Guidance: God's Word serves as a lamp to our feet and a
light to our path (Psalm 119:105). It provides guidance and wisdom for navigating
the complexities of life. When we neglect the study of God's Word, we may find
ourselves lost and without a clear sense of direction. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us,
"Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own
understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight
your paths." By neglecting God's Word, we forfeit the opportunity to receive His
divine guidance and miss out on His plans and purposes for our lives.
5. Ineffectual Prayer Life: Prayer is a vital aspect of our relationship with God, but
neglecting His Word can undermine the effectiveness of our prayers. 1 John 5:14-
15 assures us, "And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we
ask anything according to his will he hears us. And if we know that he hears us
in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of
him." By neglecting the study of God's Word, we may pray outside of His will,
leading to unanswered prayers and a sense of disconnect in our communication
with Him.
Recognizing the negative effects of neglecting God's Word and the resulting
language barrier in prayer caused by a lack of knowledge is crucial for our spiritual
well-being and growth. It compels us to prioritize the study of Scripture and seek
a deeper understanding of God's language.
When we neglect God's Word, we miss out on the richness of His revelation. The
Bible is not merely a collection of stories and moral teachings; it is the living and
active Word of God (Hebrews 4:12). It reveals His character, His promises, His
instructions, and His redemptive plan for humanity. By neglecting the study of
Scripture, we limit our understanding of who God is and how He desires to work
in and through our lives.
The language barrier in prayer caused by a lack of knowledge arises because our
prayers are often shaped by our limited understanding and perspective. When we
do not immerse ourselves in God's Word, we may pray from a place of ignorance,
focusing on our own desires, opinions, and worldly wisdom rather than aligning
our prayers with God's will. James 4:3 reminds us, "When you ask, you do not
receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get
on your pleasures." Neglecting God's Word hinders our ability to discern His will
and pray according to His desires.
On the other hand, when we study and meditate on God's Word, it transforms
our prayer life. As we become familiar with His language, we gain insight into His
character, His purposes, and His heart. We begin to pray in alignment with His
will, seeking His glory and kingdom above our own desires. John 15:7 reassures
us, "If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and
it will be done for you." When God's Word abides in us, our prayers become
infused with His truth, His wisdom, and His power.
Praying in line with God's Word also increases our faith. Romans 10:17 declares,
"So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ." When
we immerse ourselves in Scripture, our faith is bolstered as we encounter the
testimonies of God's faithfulness, His miraculous works, and His promises. This
faith empowers us to pray with confidence, knowing that God is faithful to fulfil
His Word.
Furthermore, studying God's Word equips us with the knowledge and language to
intercede effectively for others. As we gain insight into God's heart and His
desires for humanity, we can intercede on behalf of others in accordance with His
will. 1 Timothy 2:1-4 encourages us,
Faith is intricately connected to the Word of God. Romans 10:17 declares, "So
faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ." This Scripture
highlights the pivotal role of God's Word in the development of our faith. As we
hear and internalize the message of Christ through the Scriptures, our faith is
strengthened and deepened.
The Word of God is not just a collection of stories or religious teachings; it is living
and active, capable of transforming our lives (Hebrews 4:12). Through its pages,
we encounter God's character, His promises, His instructions, and His redemptive
plan for humanity. As we study the Word, we come to understand who God is and
what He is capable of. This knowledge fuels our faith and emboldens us to trust in
Him.
The Word of God is a source of encouragement and hope. Romans 15:4 assures
us, "For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction,
that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we
might have hope." When we face trials and challenges, the Word of God provides
us with the strength and hope we need to persevere. It reminds us of God's
faithfulness throughout history and assures us that He will be faithful in our lives
as well.
As we meditate on the Word of God, it begins to shape our thinking and
transform our perspective. It aligns our thoughts with God's truth and enables us
to see the world through His eyes. Psalm 119:105 says, "Your word is a lamp to
my feet and a light to my path." The Word illuminates our path, guiding us in
making wise decisions and discerning God's will for our lives. This clarity and
direction further strengthen our faith in Him.
Building faith through God's Word involves not only reading and studying it but
also applying it to our lives. James 1:22 exhorts us, "But be doers of the word,
and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves." We are called to put into practice
what we learn from the Word. When we apply its principles and teachings in our
daily lives, we experience the transformative power of God's truth and witness
the fruitfulness of our faith.
The Word of God equips us for spiritual warfare. Ephesians 6:17 describes the
Word as the "sword of the Spirit." It is a powerful weapon against the enemy's
schemes and lies. By immersing ourselves in the Word, we gain the knowledge
and authority to stand firm in our faith and overcome the attacks of the enemy.
2. Renewing our Minds: Speaking God's Word helps to renew our minds and
transform our thinking. Romans 12:2 urges us, "Do not be conformed to this
world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may
discern what is the will of God." As we speak and meditate on Scripture, it
reshapes our thought patterns, aligning them with God's truth. This renewal of
the mind leads to a deeper understanding of His ways and fosters a stronger faith
in Him.
3. Overcoming Doubt and Fear: When faced with doubts and fears, speaking
God's Word acts as a powerful weapon. In Psalm 56:3-4, David declares, "When I
am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I
shall not be afraid." Speaking God's Word reinforces our trust in Him, dispelling
doubts and replacing fear with faith. It reminds us of His faithfulness, strength,
and protection, enabling us to face challenges with confidence and courage.
.
Chapter 8: Faith: The Language of God -
Recognizing faith as the language of God -
It is through faith that we communicate and connect with God in a profound way.
Let us explore the significance of faith as the language of God and how it shapes
our relationship with Him.
5. Living a Life of Faith: Faith is not just a one-time occurrence but a lifestyle of
trust and obedience to God's Word. Galatians 2:20 declares, "I have been
crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the
life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave
himself for me." Living by faith means surrendering our lives to God, allowing His
Spirit to guide and empower us in every aspect of our journey. It is a daily walk of
dependence on Him and His promises.
6. Cultivating and Growing in Faith: Faith is not stagnant but can be cultivated
and grown. Romans 10:17 reminds us, "So faith comes from hearing, and hearing
through the word of Christ." As we immerse ourselves in God's Word, our faith is
nourished and strengthened. We meditate on His promises, allowing them to take
root in our hearts and shape our perspective. Through prayer, fellowship, and
seeking the guidance of the Holy Spirit, our faith is continually nurtured and
deepened.
1. The Creative Power of Words: Proverbs 18:21 states, "Death and life are in the
power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits." Our words have the
ability to bring life or death, blessing or cursing. When we speak in faith, aligning
our words with God's Word, we tap into the creative power of God Himself. Just
as God spoke the universe into existence, our words have the potential to shape
our reality and bring about His purposes in our lives.
.
Chapter 9: Preaching Christ: The Source
of Faith
The preaching of Christ is not limited to pulpit sermons but encompasses the
proclamation and declaration of His truth in various forms. Let us see the
importance of preaching Christ as the source of faith, drawing insights from
Scripture.
1. Romans 10:17 - "So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word
of Christ."
This verse emphasizes the vital connection between faith and hearing the Word
of Christ. Faith is not generated by human effort alone but is a result of
encountering the message of Christ. Preaching Christ allows His Word to be
proclaimed, heard, and received, leading to the development and growth of faith
within individuals.
4. 2 Timothy 4:2 - "Preach the word; be ready in season and out of season;
reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching."
The charge to preach the Word is a call to faithfully proclaim Christ's message,
regardless of the circumstances. Preaching Christ involves correcting, rebuking,
and encouraging with patience and teaching. Through this process, faith is
nurtured, strengthened, and guided towards maturity, enabling believers to live in
accordance with God's Word.
5. Acts 8:35 - "Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning with this Scripture
he told him the good news about Jesus."
Philip's encounter with the Ethiopian eunuch highlights the importance of
preaching Christ. Philip used Scripture to communicate the good news about
Jesus, leading the eunuch to believe and be baptized. Preaching Christ involves
sharing the Scriptures, pointing people to Jesus as the source of salvation, and
fostering faith in Him.
6. 1 Peter 1:25 - "But the word of the Lord remains forever." And this word is
the good news that was preached to you.
The preaching of Christ is cantered on the enduring and eternal Word of the
Lord. The Word of God, when proclaimed, carries the power to transform lives
and ignite faith within individuals. The good news of Christ, which was preached,
continues to impact and bring salvation to those who believe.
Chapter 10: Embracing the Message that
Brings Faith through the Word
It is through the Word that we encounter the truth, promises, and teachings of
God, which have the power to ignite and nurture faith within us. Let us explore
this concept further, drawing insights from Scripture.
1. Romans 10:8 - "But what does it say? 'The word is near you, in your mouth
and in your heart' (that is, the word of faith that we proclaim)."
The Word of God is not distant or inaccessible; it is readily available to us. As we
embrace the Word, it becomes embedded in our hearts and spoken from our
mouths. This "word of faith" that we proclaim has the ability to bring about a
transformation in our lives and strengthen our faith.
2. Hebrews 4:12 - "For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any
two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of
marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart."
The Word of God is not merely a collection of ancient writings but a living and
active force. It possesses the power to penetrate our innermost being, discerning
our thoughts and intentions. When we embrace the message found in the Word,
it has the potential to bring about deep conviction, renewal, and faith within us.
3. James 1:22 - "But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving
yourselves."
Embracing the message of the Word goes beyond mere intellectual assent or
passive listening. It involves active obedience and application of the Word in our
lives. When we put the Word into practice, we demonstrate our faith and allow it
to take root, leading to a deeper and more transformative experience with God.
4. Psalm 119:105 - "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path."
Embracing the Word of God illuminates our journey in life. It provides guidance,
direction, and clarity as we navigate through various circumstances. By holding
fast to the Word, we can walk in faith, knowing that it leads us on the right path
and helps us make choices aligned with God's will.
5. John 20:31 - "But these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the
Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name."
The Scriptures, as recorded in the Word of God, serve the purpose of bringing
about faith and eternal life. As we embrace the message contained in the Word, it
leads us to believe in Jesus Christ as the Son of God, resulting in a life-
transforming relationship with Him.
6. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 - "All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for
teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the
man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work."
The entirety of Scripture is inspired by God and carries great value and purpose.
When we embrace the Word, we allow it to shape our beliefs, correct our
misconceptions, and guide us in righteous living. It equips us to fulfil our purpose
and engage in the good works God has prepared for us.
Chapter 11: Understanding the Role of Love in
Communication with God
Love plays a crucial role in our relationship with Him, and understanding its
importance deepens our connection and intimacy with the Father.
Love is at the core of who God is. Scripture tells us that God is love (1 John 4:8).
His very nature is characterized by boundless love and compassion towards His
creation. When we approach God in prayer, it is essential to recognize and
acknowledge His loving nature. Understanding His love for us helps us to
approach Him with confidence, knowing that He desires the best for us and
delights in hearing from His children.
Love is a language that transcends words. It is a posture of the heart that reflects
our genuine affection and devotion to God. When we communicate with Him
from a place of love, our prayers become more than just requests or petitions.
They become intimate conversations with the One who loves us unconditionally.
In our communication with God, love acts as a catalyst for openness, vulnerability,
and trust. When we love God, we are willing to pour out our hearts before Him,
sharing our joys, sorrows, hopes, and fears. We come to Him with transparency,
knowing that He accepts us just as we are. Love creates a safe space for us to
express our deepest thoughts and emotions, fostering a deeper level of intimacy
with Him.
Love also transforms our motives and intentions in prayer. When we love God,
our prayers are not driven by selfish desires or personal agendas. Instead, they
are motivated by a desire to align ourselves with His will and bring glory to His
name. Love compels us to seek His kingdom and His righteousness above all else
(Matthew 6:33). We pray with a surrendered heart, submitting our requests to
Him and trusting His perfect plan for our lives.
Scripture teaches us that love covers a multitude of sins (1 Peter 4:8). When we
communicate with God from a place of love, it helps us to forgive others and seek
reconciliation. Love enables us to release any bitterness, anger, or resentment
that may hinder our prayers. As we extend love and forgiveness towards others,
our hearts become more attuned to God's voice, and our prayers become more
aligned with His purposes.
One of the most significant manifestations of love in our communication with God
is through worship. When we worship Him, we express our love, adoration, and
reverence for who He is. Worship is not limited to a specific time or place; it is a
lifestyle of acknowledging God's greatness and surrendering ourselves to Him.
Through worship, we communicate our love to God in a profound and meaningful
way.
The Word of God is living and active. It has the ability to penetrate our innermost
being, discerning our thoughts and intentions. When we embrace the message of
the Word, it can bring deep conviction, renewal, and faith within us.
The Word of God serves as a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. It provides
guidance, direction, and clarity as we navigate through life. When we hold fast to
the Word, we can walk in faith, knowing that it leads us on the right path and
helps us make choices aligned with God's will.
The Scriptures are written so that we may believe in Jesus Christ as the Son of
God and have life in His name. Embracing the message of the Word leads us to a
life-transforming relationship with Jesus and the assurance of eternal life.
All of Scripture is inspired by God and carries great value and purpose. When we
embrace the Word, it shapes our beliefs, corrects misconceptions, and guides us
in righteous living. It equips us to fulfil our purpose and engage in the good works
God has prepared for us.
LEARNING TO SPEAK TO GOD FROM A PLACE OF LOVE
Love is the language of God, and when we communicate with Him from a heart
filled with love, our prayers become more powerful and effective.
Speaking to God from a place of love involves recognizing and embracing the love
that God has for us. We are called to love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and
strength (Mark 12:30). This love stems from the understanding that God first
loved us and demonstrated His love through the sacrifice of His Son, Jesus Christ
(1 John 4:9-10).
Scripture teaches us that perfect love casts out fear (1 John 4:18). As we grow in
our understanding of God's love for us and reciprocate that love, fear loses its grip
on us. Instead of being paralyzed by fear in our prayers, we can boldly approach
the throne of grace with confidence, knowing that we are loved and accepted by
God (Hebrews 4:16).
Speaking to God from a place of love also involves cultivating a heart of gratitude.
When we express our thankfulness and appreciation to God, we demonstrate our
love for Him. Gratitude shifts our focus from our own limitations and concerns to
the goodness and faithfulness of God. It enables us to speak to Him with a joyful
and worshipful heart.
By speaking to God from a place of love, we align ourselves with His nature and
character. God is love (1 John 4:8), and as His children, we are called to reflect His
love in our words and actions. When our prayers are infused with love, they carry
the fragrance of God's presence and have a profound impact on our relationship
with Him.
Scripture encourages us to approach God with confidence and faith, knowing that
He is loving and faithful (Hebrews 4:16). Love and faith go hand in hand when it
comes to our relationship with God. When we truly love Him, we trust in His
goodness, His promises, and His plans for our lives. Love casts out fear, as we are
assured of His perfect love that drives away all fear (1 John 4:18). When we
approach Him in love, we let go of doubts and fears, knowing that He is
trustworthy and always works for our good.
Speaking to God from a place of love involves surrendering our worries, anxieties,
and concerns into His hands. We bring our burdens to Him, knowing that He cares
for us (1 Peter 5:7). Instead of allowing fear to consume us, we choose to trust in
His love and faithfulness. Love empowers us to release control and rely on His
guidance and provision.
Speaking to God from a place of love also means speaking words of affirmation,
gratitude, and adoration. It involves expressing our love for Him, acknowledging
His goodness, and praising Him for who He is. Love prompts us to focus on His
attributes and His faithfulness throughout our lives. When we speak to God in this
manner, our prayers become filled with reverence, awe, and gratitude, deepening
our connection with Him.
Speaking to God from a place of love requires us to align our thoughts and words
with His truth. Instead of allowing doubt or fear to shape our prayers, we choose
to speak His promises and declarations of faith. We anchor ourselves in His Word,
which is a constant reminder of His love, faithfulness, and power. By speaking His
truth, we build up our faith and strengthen our relationship with Him.
One scripture that beautifully captures the essence of speaking to God from a
place of love is found in 1 Corinthians 16:14: "Let all that you do be done in love."
This verse reminds us that love should permeate every aspect of our lives,
including our communication with God. As we speak to Him from a place of love,
we honour Him, acknowledge His sovereignty, and invite His presence to dwell
with us.
CHAPTER 12: OVERCOMING PRAYER BARRIERS
James 4:6 - "But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: 'God resists the proud,
but gives grace to the humble.'"
3. Lack of Faith:
A lack of faith can also hinder effective communication with God. When we doubt
His ability to answer our prayers or question His faithfulness, we create a barrier
that limits the power of our prayers. Overcoming this barrier involves
strengthening our faith through studying God's Word, meditating on His
promises, and recalling His faithfulness in our lives. By renewing our trust in Him,
we can pray with boldness and confidence, knowing that He is able to accomplish
all things.
Scripture: Mark 11:24 - "Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe
that you have received it, and it will be yours."
4. Spiritual Opposition:
There may be times when we encounter spiritual opposition in our prayer life.
The enemy seeks to hinder our communication with God and discourage us from
seeking His presence. Recognizing this spiritual warfare and engaging in spiritual
disciplines such as prayer, fasting, and the study of God's Word can help us
overcome these barriers. By putting on the armour of God and relying on His
strength, we can resist the enemy's attacks and maintain a vibrant and effective
prayer life.
Ephesians 6:12 - "For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against
principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age,
against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places."
5. Unconfessed Sin:
Sin creates a barrier between us and God, hindering our prayers from reaching His
throne. Unconfessed sin weighs heavily on our conscience and disrupts our
fellowship with Him. To overcome this barrier, we must humbly confess our sins
before God, seeking His forgiveness and cleansing. Through sincere repentance,
we can experience restoration and renewed communion with our Heavenly
Father.
: 1 John 1:9 - "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins
and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."
Overcoming Language Barriers Through the Holy Spirit, the Word, Faith, and
Love
Scripture: Romans 8:26-27 - "Likewise, the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For
we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself
makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who
searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is because He makes
intercession for the saints according to the will of God."
3. Faith:
Faith is a powerful language that transcends human limitations and bridges the
gap between us and God. When we speak in the language of faith, we declare our
trust in God's promises and His ability to fulfil them. Faith allows us to see beyond
the obstacles and challenges, enabling us to communicate with God from a
position of confidence and assurance. By cultivating faith through the hearing and
declaring of God's Word, we open up avenues for intimate and effective
communication with Him.
Hebrews 11:6 - "But without faith, it is impossible to please Him, for he who
comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who
diligently seek Him."
4. Love:
Love is a universal language that transcends all barriers, including language
barriers in our communication with God. When we speak to God from a place of
love, we approach Him with a genuine desire to honour and worship Him, rather
than from doubt, fear, or selfish motives. Love allows us to connect with God on a
deeper level, fostering intimacy and a genuine heart-to-heart communication. By
aligning our words and intentions with the love of God, we create an environment
where our communication with Him becomes more authentic and transformative.
Through the Holy Spirit, we are empowered to pray in alignment with God's will.
The Spirit intercedes on our behalf, helping us articulate our prayers even when
we don't have the right words. As we yield to the leading of the Holy Spirit, He
enables us to communicate with God in a language that transcends human
limitations, allowing for a rich and intimate exchange.
Faith acts as a key that unlocks the doors of communication with God. It is
through faith that we believe in His existence, His goodness, and His faithfulness.
When we speak in faith, we align ourselves with the truth of God's Word and His
promises. Our prayers become declarations of trust and confidence in His ability
to fulfil His Word. As we build our faith through hearing, meditating, and declaring
the Word, our communication with God becomes bold, unwavering, and filled
with expectancy.
Love is the foundation of our relationship with God and the language that unites
us with Him. When we approach God from a place of love, we recognize His love
for us and respond in kind. Love enables us to communicate with sincerity,
vulnerability, and openness. It compels us to seek His presence, express our
gratitude, and share our deepest desires and concerns. Love removes the barriers
of doubt, fear, and self-centeredness, allowing us to commune with God in a
genuine and intimate manner.
Psalm 119:169 - "Let my cry come before You, O Lord; Give me understanding
according to Your word."
1 John 5:14 - "Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask
anything according to His will, He hears us."
Romans 8:26 - "Likewise, the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not
know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes
intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered."
: Philippians 4:6 - "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and
supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God."
By aligning our words with God's Word, meditating on His truth, seeking His will,
praying in the Spirit, and expressing gratitude and worship, we can pray with
understanding. Our prayers
Through the power of the Holy Spirit and the guidance of His Word, we can pray
prayers that are filled with wisdom, faith, and love. As we align our words with
God's Word, we tap into the truth and promises that He has revealed to us. We
can pray with boldness, knowing that His Word does not return void but
accomplishes what it was sent out to do (Isaiah 55:11).
Praying with understanding also deepens our intimacy with God. As we meditate
on His Word and seek His will, our hearts align with His heart. We develop a
sensitivity to His leading and a discernment of His purposes. Our prayers become
an act of surrender, as we trust in His wisdom and acknowledge His sovereignty.
Colossians 3:16 - "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom,
teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs,
singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord."
Praying God's will and plans is a transformative and powerful aspect of our prayer
life. It is an invitation to align our desires with His, to seek His guidance, and to
surrender our own agendas to His perfect purposes. When we pray according to
God's will, we tap into His wisdom, authority, and supernatural power.
One of the key elements in discovering the power of praying God's will is seeking
His heart through His Word. The Bible serves as a guidebook for understanding
God's character, His promises, and His plans for humanity. As we study and
meditate on His Word, we gain insight into His will and learn how to pray in
alignment with it. Scriptures such as 1 John 5:14-15 remind us that when we pray
according to God's will, we can have confidence that He hears us and will answer
our prayers.
Praying God's will also involves surrendering our own desires and submitting to
His divine wisdom. It requires humility and a willingness to trust that His plans are
higher and better than our own. Jesus exemplified this in His prayer in the Garden
of Gethsemane, saying, "Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not
my will, but yours be done" (Luke 22:42). By aligning our prayers with God's will,
we open ourselves up to His transformative work in our lives and in the world
around us.
Praying God's will and plans enables us to partner with Him in bringing about His
purposes on earth. It is an act of co-labouring with Him, where we invite His
kingdom to come and His will to be done in every situation. Through prayer, we
participate in God's redemptive work, interceding for the needs of others, seeking
justice, and proclaiming His truth. Our prayers become instruments of change and
transformation as we align ourselves with His agenda.
Matthew 6:10 - "Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in
heaven."
When we pray according to God's will, we can have confidence that our prayers
are in alignment with His purposes. We can trust that He is at work, even when
we don't see immediate answers. Praying God's will also aligns our hearts with
His, cultivating a deeper intimacy and reliance on Him.
Chapter 14:Speaking the Language of
Worship
Worship is a language of the heart that transcends mere words and is expressed
through reverence, adoration, and surrender to God. It is a powerful way of
communicating with Him, acknowledging His greatness, and expressing our love,
gratitude, and devotion.
Worship is more than just a religious ritual or a series of songs. It is a lifestyle that
encompasses our thoughts, attitudes, and actions. It involves bringing our whole
being into alignment with God's presence and acknowledging His worthiness.
Through worship, we enter into a deeper level of intimacy with God, allowing Him
to speak to us and transform our hearts.
Worship is an act of surrender, where we lay aside our own agendas, desires, and
distractions, and focus our attention solely on God. It is in this posture of humility
and surrender that we are able to hear His voice, receive His guidance, and
experience His transformative presence. Through worship, we enter into a divine
exchange, offering our praise and thanksgiving, and in return, receiving His love,
grace, and peace.
The language of worship extends beyond the confines of the church walls. It
encompasses all aspects of our lives, permeating our thoughts, words, and
actions. It is not limited to a specific time or place, but it becomes a lifestyle of
continually offering ourselves as living sacrifices to God (Romans 12:1). As we
cultivate a heart of worship, we become channels through which His love, grace,
and truth flow to those around us.
Worship is not just a one-way communication where we offer our praises and
adoration to God. It is a two-way interaction that aligns us with God's heart and
enables effective communication with Him. When we engage in worship, we
enter into a place of humility and surrender. We acknowledge God's sovereignty,
goodness, and greatness, and we position ourselves to receive from Him. As we
align our hearts with His, our desires, perspectives, and priorities begin to align
with His will. This alignment opens the door for effective communication because
we are attuned to His voice and receptive to His leading.
Worship allows us to set aside our own agendas and distractions, creating a
sacred space where we can focus solely on God. In this place of undivided
attention, our hearts become receptive to His presence and guidance. As we lay
ourselves before Him, we open ourselves up to His transformative work in our
lives. Worship softens our hearts, removes barriers, and creates an atmosphere
conducive to deep communication with God.
Worship fosters intimacy with God. It deepens our relationship with Him and
strengthens the bond between us. As we worship, we draw near to Him, and He
draws near to us (James 4:8). This closeness allows for more intimate and
authentic communication. In the presence of God, we can pour out our hearts,
share our struggles and joys, and receive His comfort, guidance, and assurance.
Worship also helps us to align our thoughts, words, and actions with God's truth.
As we meditate on His Word and declare His promises in worship, we are
reminded of His faithfulness and the power of His truth. This alignment with God's
truth enables us to speak and pray in accordance with His will. It empowers our
communication with Him, knowing that we are aligning our words with His Word.
In the context of spiritual warfare, worship can be seen as a "warship," a strategic
approach for winning battles. Chapter 10 delves into this concept, exploring how
worship serves as a powerful strategy for overcoming spiritual opposition and
experiencing victory in our lives.
When we engage in worship, we are not only expressing our love and adoration
for God, but we are also actively engaging in spiritual warfare. Worship becomes a
warship when we understand its significance in the realm of spiritual battles and
employ it as a strategic weapon against the enemy.
One aspect of worship as a warship is its ability to shift our focus from the
challenges and opposition we face to the greatness and sovereignty of God. As we
exalt Him and magnify His name, we gain a higher perspective, realizing that God
is greater than any obstacle or opposition we may encounter. This shift in focus
weakens the enemy's hold on our minds and hearts, reminding us that we fight
from a position of victory already secured by Christ.
Worship as a warship also involves declaring and proclaiming God's truth and
promises. In worship, we speak forth God's Word, declaring His faithfulness, His
victory, and His promises over our lives. This declaration aligns us with the truth
of God's Word and establishes a spiritual atmosphere where the enemy's lies are
shattered. The spoken word of worship releases God's power, breaks chains of
bondage, and brings freedom and victory.
Gratitude is a language that God understands and delights in. When we express
our gratitude to Him, we are speaking His language, demonstrating our trust and
dependence on Him. It is through gratitude that we acknowledge His sovereignty
and recognize that everything we have comes from Him. As we speak the
language of gratitude, our relationship with God deepens, and we experience His
presence and peace in a profound way.
Gratitude also has a transformative effect on our perspective and attitude. When
we choose to focus on the things we are thankful for, it shifts our mind-set from
complaining and negativity to joy and contentment. Gratitude helps us cultivate a
heart of humility, recognizing that we are recipients of God's grace and
undeserved blessings. It enables us to live with a sense of abundance and
generosity, freely sharing the blessings we have received.
Gratitude is not just about expressing thanks for what we have received; it is also
about recognizing God's character and attributes. When we express gratitude, we
magnify His goodness, love, and faithfulness. Gratitude is an act of worship, a way
of glorifying God and acknowledging His work in our lives. It opens the door for
deeper intimacy with Him and invites His continued blessings and favour.
Thanksgiving in prayer is not merely a list of things we are grateful for, but a
heartfelt expression of gratitude for who God is and what He has done in our
lives. It involves recognizing His attributes, His love, His mercy, and His grace. It is
an act of worship and adoration, where we magnify God's greatness and offer
Him the praise and honour He deserves.
Scripture encourages us to "enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts
with praise" (Psalm 100:4). This verse highlights the significance of gratitude as
we approach God in prayer. It is an invitation to come before Him with a grateful
heart, acknowledging His presence, and expressing our thankfulness for His
blessings and provision.
Expressing gratitude in our prayers also strengthens our faith. When we recount
the ways God has been faithful in the past, it builds confidence in His character
and His promises. It reminds us that God is trustworthy and that He will continue
to provide and guide us in the future. As we speak the language of gratitude, our
faith is strengthened, and we can approach God with boldness and expectation.
Speaking God's language has a transformational power that can bring about
profound changes in our lives. When we communicate with God on His terms,
using His language, it opens the door for His power and presence to work in us
and through us.
Speaking God's language also has the power to transform our character and
behaviour. The Holy Spirit, who is the language of God, works within us to
produce the fruit of the Spirit—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness,
faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23). As we communicate
with God in His language, His transformative power moulds us into His likeness
and empowers us to live according to His standards.
When we align our communication with God's ways, we have the privilege of
witnessing the powerful impact it has on our lives and the lives of those around
us. Here are some ways in which aligning our communication with God's ways can
bring about a visible impact:
3. Unity and reconciliation: Aligning our communication with God's ways fosters
unity and reconciliation in relationships. Ephesians 4:3 encourages us to make
every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. When we
speak God's language of forgiveness, love, and reconciliation, it breaks down
barriers and brings healing to broken relationships. We witness the restoration of
friendships, families, and communities as we communicate with others in a
manner that reflects God's heart.
3. Aligning our thoughts and words with His truth: Divine communication
requires us to align our thoughts and words with the truth of God's Word.
Philippians 4:8 urges us to think about whatever is true, noble, right, pure, lovely,
admirable, excellent, and praiseworthy. It means speaking words that are
uplifting, encouraging, and filled with grace. Living a life of divine communication
involves renewing our minds with His truth and allowing it to shape our thoughts
and speech.
1. Intimacy with God: Constant communication with God deepens our intimacy
with Him. As we spend time in His presence, pouring out our hearts, listening to
His voice, and seeking His face, our relationship with Him grows stronger. James
4:8 reminds us to draw near to God, and He will draw near to us. Through
constant communication, we develop a deeper connection with our Heavenly
Father and experience His presence in a tangible way.
3. Peace and assurance: Constant communication with God brings us peace and
assurance. When we face challenges, trials, or uncertainties, we can bring them to
Him in prayer and find comfort in His presence. Philippians 4:6-7 reminds us to
present our requests to God with thanksgiving, and the peace of God, which
surpasses all understanding, will guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
Through constant communication, we experience the peace that comes from
knowing we are not alone and that God is with us.
6. Alignment with His purposes: Constant communication with God aligns us with
His purposes and plans. As we seek His will, listen to His voice, and follow His
guidance, we position ourselves to fulfil the purpose for which He created us.
Proverbs 16:9 assures us that in our hearts, we plan our course, but the Lord
establishes our steps. Through constant communication, we surrender our own
desires and align ourselves with God's perfect plans.
1 And in that year there was a heavy famine throughout the land of Canaan, and
the inhabitants of the land could not remain on account of the famine for it was
very grievous.
2 And Abram and all belonging to him rose and went down to Egypt on account
of the famine, and when they were at the brook Mitzraim they remained there
some time to rest from the fatigue of the road.
3 And Abram and Sarai were walking at the border of the brook Mitzraim, and
Abram beheld his wife Sarai that she was very beautiful.
4 And Abram said to his wife Sarai, Since God has created thee with such a
beautiful countenance, I am afraid of the Egyptians lest they should slay me and
take thee away, for the fear of God is not in these places.
5 Surely then thou shalt do this, Say thou art my sister to all that may ask thee,
in order that it may be well with me, and that we may live and not be put to
death.
6 And Abram commanded the same to all those that came with him to Egypt on
account of the famine; also his nephew Lot he commanded, saying, If the
Egyptians ask thee concerning Sarai say she is the sister of Abram.
7 And yet with all these orders Abram did not put confidence in them, but he
took Sarai and placed her in a chest and concealed it amongst their vessels, for
Abram was greatly concerned about Sarai on account of the wickedness of the
Egyptians.
8 And Abram and all belonging to him rose up from the brook Mitzraim and
came to Egypt; and they had scarcely entered the gates of the city when the
guards stood up to them saying, Give tithe to the king from what you have, and
then you may come into the town; and Abram and those that were with him did
so.
9 And Abram with the people that were with him came to Egypt, and when they
came they brought the chest in which Sarai was concealed and the Egyptians
saw the chest.
10 And the king's servants approached Abram, saying, What hast thou here in
this chest which we have not seen? Now open thou the chest and give tithe to
the king of all that it contains.
11 And Abram said, This chest I will not open, but all you demand upon it I will
give. And Pharaoh's officers answered Abram, saying, It is a chest of precious
stones, give us the tenth thereof.
12 Abram said, All that you desire I will give, but you must not open the chest.
13 And the king's officers pressed Abram, and they reached the chest and
opened it with force, and they saw, and behold a beautiful woman was in the
chest.
14 And when the officers of the king beheld Sarai they were struck with
admiration at her beauty, and all the princes and servants of Pharaoh
assembled to see Sarai, for she was very beautiful. And the king's officers ran
and told Pharaoh all that they had seen, and they praised Sarai to the king; and
Pharaoh ordered her to be brought, and the woman came before the king.
15 And Pharaoh beheld Sarai and she pleased him exceedingly, and he was
struck with her beauty, and the king rejoiced greatly on her account, and made
presents to those who brought him the tidings concerning her.
16 And the woman was then brought to Pharaoh's house, and Abram grieved on
account of his wife, and he prayed to the Lord to deliver her from the hands of
Pharaoh.
17 And Sarai also prayed at that time and said, O Lord God thou didst tell my
Lord Abram to go from his land and from his father's house to the land of
Canaan, and thou didst promise to do well with him if he would perform thy
commands; now behold we have done that which thou didst command us, and
we left our land and our families, and we went to a strange land and to a people
whom we have not known before.
18 And we came to this land to avoid the famine, and this evil accident has
befallen me; now therefore, O Lord God, deliver us and save us from the hand
of this oppressor, and do well with me for the sake of thy mercy.
19 And the Lord hearkened to the voice of Sarai, and the Lord sent an angel to
deliver Sarai from the power of Pharaoh.
20 And the king came and sat before Sarai and behold an angel of the Lord was
standing over them, and he appeared to Sarai and said to her, Do not fear, for
the Lord has heard thy prayer.
21 And the king approached Sarai and said to her, What is that man to thee who
brought thee hither? and she said, He is my brother.
22 And the king said, It is incumbent upon us to make him great, to elevate him
and to do unto him all the good which thou shalt command us; and at that time
the king sent to Abram silver and gold and precious stones in abundance,
together with cattle, men servants and maid servants; and the king ordered
Abram to be brought, and he sat in the court of the king's house, and the king
greatly exalted Abram on that night.
23 And the king approached to speak to Sarai, and he reached out his hand to
touch her, when the angel smote him heavily, and he was terrified and he
refrained from reaching to her.
24 And when the king came near to Sarai, the angel smote him to the ground,
and acted thus to him the whole night, and the king was terrified.
25 And the angel on that night smote heavily all the servants of the king, and his
whole household, on account of Sarai, and there was a great lamentation that
night amongst the people of Pharaoh's house.
26 And Pharaoh, seeing the evil that befell him, said, Surely on account of this
woman has this thing happened to me, and he removed himself at some
distance from her and spoke pleasing words to her.
27 And the king said to Sarai, Tell me I pray thee concerning the man with
whom thou camest here; and Sarai said, This man is my husband, and I said to
thee that he was my brother for I was afraid, lest thou shouldst put him to
death through wickedness.
28 And the king kept away from Sarai, and the plagues of the angel of the Lord
ceased from him and his household; and Pharaoh knew that he was smitten on
account of Sarai, and the king was greatly astonished at this.
29 And in the morning the king called for Abram and said to him, What is this
thou hast done to me? Why didst thou say, She is my sister, owing to which I
took her unto me for a wife, and this heavy plague has therefore come upon me
and my household.
30 Now therefore here is thy wife, take her and go from our land lest we all die
on her account. And Pharaoh took more cattle, men servants and maid servants,
and silver and gold, to give to Abram, and he returned unto him Sarai his wife.
31 And the king took a maiden whom he begat by his concubines, and he gave
her to Sarai for a handmaid.
32 And the king said to his daughter, It is better for thee my daughter to be a
handmaid in this man's house than to be mistress in my house, after we have
beheld the evil that befell us on account of this woman.
33 And Abram arose, and he and all belonging to him went away from Egypt;
and Pharaoh ordered some of his men to accompany him and all that went with
him.
34 And Abram returned to the land of Canaan, to the place where he had made
the altar, where he at first had pitched his tent.
In the Book of Jasher, Chapter 15, we witness the account of how Sarah, the wife
of Abram (later known as Abraham), used God's words to speak to Him, and how
God answered her in a remarkable way.
During that time, there was a severe famine in the land of Canaan, where Abram
and his family resided. The situation became so dire that they had to leave their
homeland and journey to Egypt in search of sustenance. As they reached the
brook Mitzraim, Abram noticed the extraordinary beauty of his wife, Sarah, and
he became fearful for her safety in the foreign land. He was concerned that the
Egyptians might kill him to take her as their own. Therefore, he devised a plan and
instructed Sarah to tell everyone they encounter that she is his sister, to ensure
their well-being and survival.
Despite Abram's plan, he did not fully trust in it. He took extra precautions by
concealing Sarah in a chest among their belongings. As they entered Egypt, they
were required to pay a tithe to the king. The king's officers noticed the chest and
demanded it to be opened, wanting a portion of its contents as payment. Abram,
fearing for Sarah's safety, refused to open the chest. Eventually, the officers
forcefully opened it and were astounded by the beauty of Sarah.
The news of Sarah's beauty spread to Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, who was
captivated by her. He ordered her to be brought to him, intending to take her as
his wife. This distressed Abram, who prayed fervently to the Lord, seeking
deliverance for his wife from the hands of Pharaoh. At the same time, Sarah also
prayed to God, recounting their obedience to His commands and asking for His
mercy and protection.
The Lord heard the prayers of Sarah and sent an angel to deliver her from
Pharaoh's power. As Pharaoh approached Sarah, intending to take her, an angel
stood between them, striking Pharaoh with great fear and preventing him from
touching her. The angel declared to Sarah that she should not fear because the
Lord had heard her prayer. The angel's intervention continued throughout the
night, striking Pharaoh and his household with various plagues due to their
mistreatment of Sarah.
Realizing the cause of the calamities that befell him, Pharaoh confronted Abram
about his deception. He reproached Abram for claiming that Sarah was his sister,
leading to the afflictions upon Pharaoh and his household. Pharaoh returned
Sarah to Abram and commanded them to leave Egypt immediately, fearing
further consequences. In addition to Sarah's return, Pharaoh gave Abram
numerous gifts, including livestock, servants, and wealth.
Upon leaving Egypt, Abram and his family returned to the land of Canaan, where
he had previously erected an altar. The events that unfolded in Egypt reinforced
Abram's faith in God's protection and guidance. Sarah's prayers, combined with
Abram's trust in God's words and promises, resulted in their deliverance and an
abundance of blessings from Pharaoh.
This account illustrates the power of speaking God's words in prayer and the
faithfulness of God to answer His people. Sarah's prayer, rooted in obedience and
trust, moved the Lord to intervene on her behalf. It is a testament to the
importance of communicating with God in alignment with His will and seeking His
guidance and deliverance in times of trouble. Just as Sarah and Abram
experienced, when we speak God's language through prayer, He hears us,
protects us, and provides for us according to His divine purposes.
