Climacab Firmware Updates for Shore Power on the Start Batteries and
Nanuk Updates to Error Decoder and General Diagnostics Addons and
Update for the Touchscreen
Introduction
On some installation, it is desired to place the Shore Power connection on the start batteries, because
the start batteries are providing power for the hotel loads. In this instance, the standard Climacab
firmware cannot distinguish between Shore Power and the engine running, (they both look the same in terms
of start battery voltages). Normally, Climacab will not allow operation when the vehicle is running. This
special update allows Climacab to operate when Shore Power is connected to the start battery pack.
The update includes modification to the Evaporator card (3.3.8.0) and Power Management Module
(PMM 1.2.4.0) firmware. An engine crank detection algorithm was added to the PMM that aids in the
shutting off of Climacab when the engine is started.
Installation
FW-BTF_3.3.8.0.zip contains an executable program and this set of instruction. The executable
program, “FW-BTF_3.3.8.0.exe”, will install firmware updates for the ClimaCab system that can be
programmed with Nanuk 1.2.1.0, (which should already be installed and updated with the latest version prior to
running FW-BTF_3.3.8.0.exe). In addition, an update to the Error Decoder and the General Diagnostics
Addons will be installed. An update for the Panasonic touchscreen is also provided. The Nanuk
program is not changed. The installation steps are shown below:
1) FW-BTF_3.3.8.0.exe creates a log file (install.log) for your review of the changes, so move FW-
BTF_3.3.8.0.exe to a writeable location like c:\tmp or c:\temp. Then, run the program. You
may see the following dialog box. Click on “Run” or “Yes” to continue.

2) You’ll see the welcome screen that tells you want will be installed. Click “Next>”
3) Next you can select from the firmware or Nanuk addons or both. To install both, don’t make
any changes and click on “Next >”
2

4) The next dialog box allows you to select the location of Nanuk. Generally there is no need to
change this unless you installed Nanuk in an atypically location. Click on “Install” to continue.
5) The installer will copy the firmware to the user’s folders and will write the addon to the
location of the Nanuk Installation. If you do not have write permission to the Nanuk
Installation location, you may see an error message to let you know that the Addon was not
updated. If this occurs, you’ll have to get an Administrator of your computer to install the
update to the Battery Addon. Click on “OK” to continue.
The firmware will still be updated even if you see this above message. You’ll see the
Installation Complete dialog box. Click on “Next >” to finish the process.

Touchscreen Update
A copy of the new touchscreen firmware is written to
This “.GTP” file is to be used with the FPGT_Loader software. See the Panasonic Touchscreen
Programming Guide for details on how to update the touchscreen, (844201-64 Rev. A, Panasonic
Touchscreen Programing Guide.pdf)
Issues
If you don’t have sufficient permission to make changes to the Program Files area, you’ll have
received a warning that the Addons were not installed properly. You can still using the firmware
updates, but you’ll have to get an administrator to install the Addons.

To review the changes, start Nanuk and use the “Tools/Manage firmware” pull-down menu to review
the changes to the binary target files (BTF). You should see two new files, indicated in red boxes
below. These are the two files to use for the Evaporate Card and the PMM when shore power is
located on the start batteries.
Similarly, you can use the Nanuk “Tools/Manage plugins” pull-down menu to review the changes to
the addons. The Error Decoder and the General Diagnostics Addon should have been updated.

Extra
A backup of the current firmware is saved to %USERPROFILE%\files\gbfiles.backup. In the folder
where FW-BTF_3.3.8.0.exe was run, a file: “install.log” will be created which will contain a list of the
files that were update and where they were placed. The following is a typical example of “install.log”
for a successful installation.
