First Three Modules in the Aquifer Oral Presentation Skills course


Due: Tuesday, September 17, 5:00 PM
You received an email from Aquifer around August 14 about completing your registration. Follow those instructions.
You will need to use the Authenticator app to access the cases and set a password, but you’ll end up logging into
Aquifer. If you have problems accessing Aquifer, email the [email protected] address. Look for a course
labeled Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, then called 2024_MSCI6120- P3. Complete the first three
modules:
1. Oral Presentation Skills 01: Introduction and Primer
2. Oral Presentation Skills 02: What is Pertinent
3. Oral Presentation Skills 03: Assessment and Plan Exercise
Aquifer will provide a report on student completion of the modules and how much time spent on each. Module 4 is
optional and recommended, but not required. Completing the first three modules should take about 30 minutes.

Session Prep, in addition to the writing portfolio described above:
1. Read the materials in the Student Packet on Sakai (Lessons>P3> P3 Small Groups> September 18) and come
prepared for class participation and discussion.
2. Don't forget that we will also be taking class and group portraits before the small group session.

P3/ICM Simulation
Due: Wednesday, September 18; Scheduled at 1:00, 2:00, 3:00, or 4:00
SOAP Notes Due: Sunday, September 22, 10:00 PM
Peer Review Due: Tuesday, October 1, 5:00 PM
Instructions are on Sakai
1. Check the document P3_ICM2SimFall24_StudentAssignments.pdf to see which role you have been given (by a
random drawing). The document is organized by small group number. (Available by end of August)
2. If you have been assigned to be the Patient or Family Members, additional materials will be emailed to you.
3. If you have been assigned to be the Student Doctor, you will be given instructions at the beginning of the
simulation; similar to an OSCE.
4. If you have been assigned to be a DDXer, bring your laptop. Details will be provided.
5. After the simulation, write a SOAP Note to document the encounter. Using Chrome or Firefox, upload your note
into SIMiQ, following the process used for other ICM notes. The SIMiQ upload is due Sunday, September 22
(simiq.ttuhsc.edu)
6. You will be prompted to complete a self-assessment of your note. This is due Tuesday, October 1.

Wednesday Photo & Small Group Guidelines
• Fair Weather Location: Front B-C Staircase
• Bad Weather Location: ACB Staircase (Check Sakai & e-mail for updates)
• Attire: White Coats for students
• Large Group photos will be taken at 8:45 AM. Don’t be a straggler and expect the whole group to wait.
• Small Group photos will be taken every 5 minutes beginning at 9:00 AM sharp.
• If you are missing when the time comes for your group’s photos, you will not appear in the photo and the group

Tuesday SOM/SOP IPE Session Guidelines


• Attire: White Coats for students
• Location: Students should participate in this activity from a quiet location that will allow full participation
• SOM/SOP Simulation tasks for medical students:
• This experience will be done via Zoom. Each wave will have an assigned zoom ID number and password. Students will be admitted from
a waiting room. Please be prompt. SOM students will do the following:
1. Gather with the members of your group at your assigned time and in your assigned zoom room, where you will receive the simulation
scenario. You will be able to open a file posted to the chat, then move to your group’s breakout room. Discuss the situation among
yourselves to make a general plan. You will have 10 minutes for this discussion.
2. Your Pharmacy Team will be admitted to the zoom room. They will provide consultation and advice. The members of your Pharmacy Team
will not know anything about the situation beyond what you explain to them. You will have 10 minutes for this discussion
3. Your patient will be admitted to the zoom room. You will connect with the patient for explanations and to answer questions and provide
information as to what are the next steps. You will have up to 12 minutes for this discussion. Your patient will have another 3-5 minutes to
provide feedback to your group.
