Danny’s Blog
Today, my class and I are on a school trip to The Donnison School –
a Victorian school in Sunderland, England. The school is from 1798, but
now it’s a museum. We are “Victorian students” for the day.
It’s interesting being a Victorian student. The classroom hasn’t got desks.
The teacher has got a blackboard and there are small blackboards called
slates for the students. There aren’t any pencil cases, textbooks or
notebooks. On the walls, there are some black and white pictures. There
isn’t any technology in the classroom, so there aren’t any laptops or tablets.
It’s very different from my school.
Victorian school uniforms are very different, too. For the girls, there’s a
black dress with some black shoes or boots. For the boys, there’s a white
shirt, a black jacket and black shorts or trousers. There are also long socks
and boots. The boys and the girls have all got hats.
It isn’t easy being a Victorian student. The lessons aren’t fun and the
teachers are very strict. I’m happy I’m a student at a modern school!
