LAB REPORT # 1

SolidWorks Part module: Sketching Basics and

2D Drawing
Objectives:
 To discuss the List of experiments, lab rules, lab report rules, and regulation
discussion
 To learn different types of manufacturing processes
 To understand the interface of the part module of Solidworks
 To learn and practice basic commands of the sketch feature
 To make a 2D Sketch drawing

Software Utilized:
Solidworks

Commands utilize to make the sketch:

Following commands are used to make the 2D sketch.

 Sketch: A 2D drawing that defines the outline or profile of a part to be

created in 3D.
 Line: It is a basic sketch entity defined by two endpoints, used to
create straight segments.
 Circle:It is defined by a center point and a radius, used to create round
shapes.
 Rectangle: A four-sided polygon defined by two opposite corners,
used for rectangular shapes.
 Arc: A curved sketch entity defined by its center, radius, and start and
end points.
 Spline: A smooth, curved line defined by control points, allowing for
complex shapes.
 Ellipse: An elongated circle defined by its center, major axis, and
minor axis, used for oval shapes.
 Polygon: A closed shape defined by multiple straight sides, typically
specified by the number of sides.
 Smart Dimension: This tool is used to add measurements and
constraints to sketch entities, controlling size and position.
 Convert Entities: This command creates sketch entities by projecting
existing geometry onto the current sketch plane.
 Offset: A command that creates a parallel entity at a specified
distance from the original sketch entity.
 Mirror Entities: It is used to create a symmetrical duplicate of
selected sketch entities across a specified axis.
 Linear Sketch Patterns: A feature that duplicates selected sketch
entities in a straight line, with specified spacing and number of
instances.
 Circular Sketch Patterns: A feature that duplicates selected sketch
entities in a circle, with specified spacing , angle and number of
instances.

Discussion:
We learn the basics of 2D
sketching in solidworks and introduction to manufacturing process
techniques. We utilize different 2D sketch commands in practice problems to
help our understanding of its applications in different sketches. We use fillets
and sketch patterns commands to make our drawing effective and less time
consuming. We learn to overcome the errors like under defined and
overdefined.

Conclusion:
Solidworks part module is used for sketching of differnt
parts. 2D sketching is used for simple drawings and serve as basics of our
complex 3D sketches. Soluidworks is excellent tool for sketching for
begineers and can also be used to make compledx 3D drawings .
