LETTER OF INTRODUCTION

1190 S.E. FLIGHTLINE DRIVE, WARRENTON, OREGON, 97146, U.S.A.

Congratulations on taking delivery of your new Lektro Model AP8600 "Airline" Aircraft
Tug. Thank you for the decision to purchase a Lektro Tug and for entrusting the safety
and ground handling of your aircraft with Lektro. Lektro is known around the world
as the safest, most efficient, best designed and highest quality tow vehicle available.
It is our goal for you to feel the decision to purchase the AP8600 was one of the best
decisions ever made.

The use of a Lektro towbarless tug in your operation will result in a variety of benefits
and savings. Lektro's user-sensitive design of towbarless nose wheel capture and smooth,
quiet, pollution-free battery power results in safe, gentle and exceptionally maneuver-
able towing with a high level of employee and customer acceptance. A spin-off feature
of our towbarless design is the versatility of your Lektro's variable drawbar pull which
adjusts to the traction requirements as the nose weight of the aircraft changes. Addition-
ally, the electronic drive system will provide direct benefits in energy and maintenance
cost reduction as well as in meeting present and future environmental emission control
requirements.

Complete customer satisfaction has been a policy of Lektro's since beginning operation
in 1945. We welcome and encourage your questions, comments and suggestions relating
to our products, service and future development. Please feel free to contact us anytime
on our toll free number, 1-800-535-8767 (U.S. and Canada), or at 503-861-2288 world
wide. Additionally, you can reach us by fax at 503-861-2283 or by Email at sales@
lektro.com .

With safety of your airline's aircraft and the operator being a top concern of Lektro, it is
vital that all personnel involved with the operation and servicing of your new Lektro be
fully trained and qualified. Detailed procedures on operation and service of the Lektro
AP8600 are contained within this manual. It is recommended that anyone associated
with your Lektro Tug read this manual prior to operating or servicing. Should changes
occur, revisions will be issued, insuring that your manual is kept current. Please review
and understand the operating and servicing procedures before placing your new Lektro
Tug in use.

Thank you for placing your confidence with Lektro. We will strive to ensure your con-
tinued satisfaction. Welcome to the Lektro Family !!

RECEIVING AND INSTALLATION

2 Receiving and Installation Instructions

.01 Receiving Check:

1. Inspect the tug thoroughly before accepting it from the shipper.
2. Remove all wrappings and look for structural and component damage, battery elecrolyte
spill corrosion in the battery compartment and any misalligned components caused by tie-
down stress.
3. Ensure all attachments, adapter and charger items detailed on Lektro Inc.'s "Component
- Chassis Location For Shipping" list are on hand and checked off before signing.
Check for preoperation instructions in packing list.
4. Reconnect the Main Power Disconnect by inserting the handled connector into the receptacle
mounted on the cowling front of the chassis. Turn the Key Switch ON and plug in winch
remote control to mid deck cowl. Referring to Chapter 1, Section 2: Component Descrip-
tion and Function, and Section 3: Driving Procedures, verify all primary motive, control,
cradle and winch functions to ensure no hidden transport damage exists.
5. If any damage or loss has occured, it is the customer's responsibility to file a claim with
the shipping company. Failure to do so could result in the lack of reimbursement by the
shipping company. Also ensure that your Lektro representative lists any damage received
in transit on Lektro's "Inspection & Installation Report" and that this form is signed by you
and the representative, and copy retained on your file for later claim evidence against the
shipping carrier.

.02 Post Delivery Installation:

AP8600 Tugs are shipped with or without the removal of external components depending
on the mode of transport, packaging needs, customer instructions and shipping exposure
protection. If your tug is received with any external components removed, follow the step
by step instructions outlined in the "General Receiving and Installation Instructions" sheet
enclosed with tug or alternately Chapter 4-A: Servicing, Section 2: Installation - External
Components in the Part 2 binder of the manual, which covers steering wheel, upper steering
assembly, brake pedal, winch remote, cradle and operator platform installation.

.03 Pre-Use Set Up:

Battery Readiness:
1. Using a baking soda solution of 1 lb. to 1 gallon of water ( ½ kg. to 4 liters), or commercial
battery cleaner, flush the battery tops and surrounding battery compartment floor and wall
surfaces if any electrolyte overflow caused by shipping high tilt is evident.
2. Referring to Chapter 4-A: "Servicing", Section 4.01e: Battery Care - Servicing and Charg-
ing Guidelines, check and correct if necessary, the electrolyte level in all battery cells and
charge the batteries to their 100% charge level. Note: See following page Section.04 "Tug
Run-In", "Important" for more Battery early use information. (continued)

LEKTRO PREFACE - 16
RECEIVING AND INSTALLATION

2 Receiving and Installation Instructions (cont.)

.03 Pre-Use Set Up:
Motive Charger Installation:
1. Follow the charger manufacturer's installation instructions in the Appendix "Supplier
Warnings, MSDS and Instructions", Sect. 2 "Battery Charger(s)" in the back of this manual-
for the charger model applicable to your tug. Also see Chapter 4-A "Servicing", Section
4.01e "Battery Care - Servicing and Charging Guidelines" and "Battery Charger Repair".
2. Check that the adjustable "Input Voltage" tap settings matches your power source. See
charger manufacturer's instructions with charger or in Appendix of this manual for de-
tails.
NOW YOUR AP8600 IS READY FOR USE.
.04 Tug Run-In:

1. After the first 30 hours, open all access panels and decks. Check for loose bolts, chafe
points and loose wire connections. Also check all hydraulic line connection fittings for
leaks. Check the hydraulic reservoir level and add fluid as required. Subsequently, revert
to the Service Schedule, Chapter 4-A, Subsection 3.01.

.05 Important Initial Safety and Tug Care Preparations:

• After reviewing Chapter 1 "Operating" and any "Alert Bulletins" in the special section
following Chapter 2-B, Turn to Part 2, Chapter 7, Section 1 and make copy of the Mate-
rial Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for your tug's battery type, and place /post in designated
employee accessible place per local Industrial Safety regulation.
• Implement "Operator Pre-Use Operator Safety Check" Program using check sheet and
procedures in Part 1, Chapter 1, Section 5.
• Implement "Service and Inspection Schedule" per Part 2, Chapter 4-A, Section 3.01.
• Set up "Spare Parts Stock" per Recommendation List in Chapter 9, Section 3 to the degree
suitable to your operations, with focus on having spare strut straps and a winch strap/hook
assembly on hand for unscheduled or the scheduled 3-month replacement (the latter con-
sidered mandatory by Lektro).
• Review the quick reference "Basic Commandments of Good Battery Care" Chapter 4-A,
Sect. 4 .01 d. for overview of how low you can expend batteries and best charging proto-
cols.

IMPORTANT: Don't forget that for optimum battery performance and life span of your tug's
battery bank, it is very critical not to expose the batteries to excessively deep discharges well
below 20% charge level. However when your batteries are new they have not yet built up
to full specification endurance. It takes at least 30 discharge / recharge cycles for your new
motive battery bank to progressively build up to their full rated endurance performance. Also,
the risk of over-depletion is higher because when new these motive batteries will deplete
quicker under load, especially as they progress below the 50% charge level. Therefore the
battery manufacturer has recommended that for the first 15 charge cycles (after which the
battery endurance will have increased acceptably closer to design optimum), you do not let
batteries deplete below 50% charge level while in operation.
Note: Refer to Chapter 4-A "Servicing", Section 4.01 "Batteries" for routine service de-
tails.
