STUDENT STIPEND POLICY

Company policy of July 2020, Updated July 2024

1. INTRODUCTION

1.1. We Think Code_ (WTC) provides a needs-based monthly stipend to qualifying students
on campus. The rationale for the stipend is to assist Students with costs incurred during
their tenure at WTC such as travel and meals.

1.2. This policy specifies the minimum requirements to qualify for a monthly stipend from WTC
and must be read in conjunction with the WTC Student Contract.

2. APPLICATION FOR STIPEND

2.1. Applications will be opened to Students once they have received confirmation of
acceptance into the Programme and signed a Student Contract with WTC.

2.2. Applications must be submitted within the timeline stipulated by campus management
from time to time. No late applications will be considered.

2.3. The following selection criteria will be applied by WTC:

2.3.1. Students would be requested to provide proof of all income sources within their
household.

2.3.2. An affidavit signed before the commissioner of oaths motivating the need for the
stipend by the Student and that it will be used for costs incurred during their tenure
at WTC such as accommodation, laptop / data costs, travel and meals where
applicable.

2.3.3. Upon receipt of the documents, a further verification process may be undertaken by
WTC as it deems fit;

2.3.4. Qualification for stipend will also be evaluated in terms of whether the Student’s
parents or guardians are deceased or are pensioners; the number of dependants
supported by the parent or guardian’s income; and

2.4. Stipends will be allocated on a tier basis:

2.4.1. Students assessed to have been in greater need will receive the maximum stipend
afforded, and

2.4.2. Students assessed to be of lesser need will receive the minimal stipend.

2.5. Students must ensure that all information provided is correct and true. Should information
be found to be false and/or fraudulent, WTC reserves the right to revoke the offer to enroll
the student in the WTC Programme.

2.6. WTC reserves the right to request further information should that be considered
necessary and shall have the right to reject any application if full information is not
provided.

2.7. Only certified copies should be attached where required.

2.8. A Student that was previously deemed ineligible for a lower-tier stipend may re-apply
should their circumstances change.

2.9. Students will be notified on the outcome of their applications by the campus director. For
students, whose applications are approved, stipend payments will become effective in the
first month of study.

3. TERMINATION OF STIPEND SUPPORT

3.1. The Students must note the following, with regards to the stipend:

3.1.1. In order to continue being eligible for the stipend, students must attend campus for
8 hours a day, Monday to Friday, which is inclusive of a 1 hour lunch break; unless
WTC communicates otherwise.

3.1.2. Inability to attend campus without prior authorisation from WTC will result in the
Student’s stipends being reduced by the days absent or suspended pending an
investigation into the reasons for the absenteeism.

3.1.3. Students can request access to data showing their hours from the performance
team on campus.

3.1.4. Students that are behind the expected average weekly attendance will receive a
communication regarding their hours at the end of the relevant week. This serves as
a notification that attendance hours have fallen below the required minimum number
of hours and if not rectified, the Student will not be eligible to receive their full
stipend for the month.

3.1.5. Should a Student need to be absent, communication must be sent timeously to the
campus coordinator. It is the student’s responsibility to communicate absence from
campus; the reasons for absence will be taken into account when assessing
whether stipend should be allocated or revoked.

3.1.6. Authorised absences may include:

3.1.6.1. Sickness supported by a medical or registered traditional healer’s certificate;

3.1.6.2. Medical or registered traditional healer’s appointments;

3.1.6.3. Court appearances;

3.1.6.4. Funerals;

3.1.6.5. Religious holidays;

3.1.6.6. Driving Tests; and

3.1.6.7. Curriculum agreed external events or internship.

3.1.7. Should the Student continue to not meet the minimal required weekly hours and no
sufficient evidence has been given regarding why the Student was absent, the
Student’s stipend will be reduced accordingly and in repeat offense cases suspended
pending further investigation.

3.1.8. Should the Student be found to be in breach of the Student Contract, or is terminated
or found guilty of misconduct or criminal act in terms of the WTC regulation and Code
of Conduct or competent authorities, or have exited, or graduated from the Programme,
the Student’s stipend will be cancelled.

4. APPEAL

4.1. A Student may appeal the decision to revoke and/or cancel the stipend in writing to the
campus management within 14 (fourteen days) of being made aware of such decision.

4.2. If a Student does not appeal within the prescribed time frame, the stipend will not be
reinstated

4.3. Once an appeal has been received, campus management will then make an assessment
of Student’s appeal reasons, as well as his or her performance in meeting curriculum
deliverables.

communication or representation save the ones reduced to writing and signed by an
