IgG retrieved from milk in the small
intestine.
The pH of the small intestine is around 6.0,
and the pH and the basolateral side is 7.5. This
change in pH is enough to release the IgG from
the Fc receptor which remains intact.

Polymeric immunoglobulins (IgA and IgM),

and the polymeric Ig receptor (pIgR).

For the secretion of IgA in the mucus layer

lining epithelial cells. The IgA-pIgR complex
is enzymatically cleaved either in the
transcytotic vesicle or at the apical side in
order to release IgA. In fact, an amino acid
sequence originating from the pIgR will still be
ma ing bound to IgA, and it is called the secretory
component. The secretory component protects
IgA from enzymatic degradation.

b -Coronaviruses Use Lysosomes for Egress Instead of the
Biosynthetic Secretory Pathway
CRISPR
In Brief
Ghosh et al. (2020) provide evidence that endogtoed
b-coronaviruses do not use the
biosynthetic secretory pathway typically urgeby
used by enveloped viruses to leave
infected cells. Instead, these viruses
traffic to lysosomes for unconventional
egress (to exit) by Arl8b-dependent lysosomal
exocytosis. Their non-lytic release results in
lysosome deacidification, inactivation of
lysosomal degradation enzymes, and disruption
of antigen presentation.

O
Will remind you of this in
Lecture 7 as well
