Why Should Kids Start School at 7 O'clock
High schools in Indonesia push their students to be at school at 06:30 in the morning,
it’s supposed to teach us to be more disciplined. School teaches us to be more disciplined
throughout many actions such as punctuality, but one could argue that this has more
negative impacts and positive impacts. Though going to school at 06:30 might not be such a
bad practice, on the other hand the school gives us a ton of homework. The homework itself
should not be a problem since it teaches the students to manage their priorities, the problem
lies within the government changing the education system every once in a while.
Firstly, the government makes changes that forces the students to adapt in a short
period of time. For example, when they changed curriculums to teach the students more
morals which in paper sound like a good idea, but taken into consideration it just doubles the
work for the students. The changes that they make not only double the workload but also
have zero to no impact for the students. It is supposed to teach us about team-work, but it
only teaches us that some people are more than incompetent to do the work that they are
told to do. The government did not take into consideration the impacts of the changes that
they made, but rather they focused on their high expectations for the students to have good
morals that they forgot about the main focus of the academic grades in school that could
affect our report cards to get into good schools.
Moreover, they also changed the requirements to get into certain colleges. Rather
through the UN, the government decided that it is more fair for students to test based on
scholastic potentials rather than academic potentials. The problem here is that they don’t
teach kids the scholastic materials at school which means they have to learn it all over again
all on their own or through tuition which only adds more to the overloading work that the
students have.
Because of this, schools should take into consideration to move the attendance time
to seven in the morning or have the students go home at an earlier hour, such as 1 to 2 pm.
With this change the students could have more leisure time to catch up on the scholastic
materials, but also have more time to relax. For schools to push their students to study for
ungodly hours and have the teachers overwork themselves to strive for perfection is a rather
selfish move.
