Chapter One: Introduction

1.1 Introduction

1.2 Problem Statement

There are many problems that Face Healthcare environment some
of them is:

Lower Operational Costs:

When your staff is working with an old-fashioned paper-based
system to help run the practice, there are bound to be
inefficiencies that you can easily dispense with by
implementing a new EHR system.

 Access Control and Safeguarding Patient

Privacy:
It’s important to make sure that your organization is doing
everything possible to maintain patient confidentiality. When
you use a paper-based system, you likely use a series of filing
cabinets or other storage solutions that you can keep locked
up,often inside a designated room.

 Improve Patient Engagement:

How engaged are your patients with your practice? You can
improve relations by activating a patient portal with your
EHR software. A patient portal lets your patients sign in to do
things like request an appointment or even check on the results
of a recent lab test, which is a boon for busy parents seeking an
update on their child.
Your staff can also use the portal to issue reminders to
patients, such as to come in for a flu shot or to get a recurring
test as you monitor their health.
 The people:

Unfortunately, not everyone is on board with the idea of

implementing and using EHRs. There will be patients and
providers along the way who may reject EHRs or easily give
up on them if there are initial technical malfunctions. Before
bringing EHRs into your practice, consider the barrier you
may face with patients and coworkers – it’s important to be ready
to face each and every opinion.

1.3 Research Question

1 How can Customized Medical Software Development Help
Practice/Hospital/Clinic?
2 Would Your Solution Integrate Seamlessly With Existing
Platforms?
3- What kind of security features protect practice data?
4- How Will Your Electronic Health Records Software Facilitate
Data Interchange?
5- How will you avoid the problem of appointment mixing with
each other?
6-What if the hospitals doesn’t have computers or server what
we can do?

1.4 Research Objective

The aim of this research is to explore how customized

medical software, particularly EHR systems, can address
challenges in the healthcare environment, focusing on
operational efficiency, patient privacy, and engagement,
while ensuring seamless integration with existing
platforms.

3
 The specific objectives are:

1. Reduce Operational Costs:

This research will investigate how implementing EHR
systems can help healthcare organizations reduce
inefficiencies related to outdated, paper-based systems,
ultimately lowering operational costs.

2. Enhance Patient Privacy and Access Control:

The study will explore how EHR systems improve patient
privacy through modern security features like encryption
and access controls, surpassing the limitations of paper-
based systems.

3. Improve Patient Engagement:

This research will analyse how features like patient
portals in EHR systems can enhance patient engagement
by enabling easier access to appointments, test results,
and health updates.

4. Overcome Resistance to EHR Adoption:

The research will identify barriers to adopting EHR
systems among both providers and patients and propose
strategies for overcoming these challenges through
training and support.

5. Ensure Seamless Integration with Existing

Platforms:
This research aims to assess how customized medical
software can be integrated seamlessly with existing

4
healthcare platforms to facilitate interoperability and
improve data exchange.

6. Facilitate Secure Data Interchange:

The study will evaluate the security features of EHR
systems, ensuring that sensitive patient data is protected
during storage and transmission.

7. Prevent Scheduling Conflicts:

The research will explore how EHR systems can improve
appointment management by preventing scheduling
conflicts through automation and real-time updates.

1.5 Research Scope

The scope of this research project focuses on the

implementation and impact of customized medical
software, specifically Electronic Health Records (EHR)
systems, within healthcare environments. The project will
address several key areas that correspond to the
challenges identified in the problem statement and the
research objectives.
The primary components of the project scope
include:

1.Target Audience:
The project will primarily target healthcare
providers, including hospitals, clinics, and private

5
practices, as well as patients who interact with these
systems.
It will consider the perspectives of both medical staff
and patients to understand the challenges and
benefits associated with EHR adoption.

2.Key Focus Areas:

The project will focus on the following areas:

 Operational Efficiency:
Investigating how transitioning from paper-based
systems to EHR systems can reduce operational
costs and enhance workflow efficiencies in
healthcare practices.
 Patient Privacy and Security:
Analysing the security features of EHR systems,
including access control measures and data
protection protocols, to ensure patient
confidentiality and compliance with regulatory
standards.
 Patient Engagement:
Evaluating how EHR systems with patient portals can
enhance patient engagement, allowing patients to
access their health information, schedule
appointments, and communicate with healthcare
providers effectively.
 Resistance to Adoption:

6
Identifying and addressing barriers to EHR adoption
among healthcare providers and patients, including
resistance to change and technical challenges.
 Integration with Existing Systems:
Assessing the ability of EHR systems to integrate
seamlessly with existing healthcare platforms and
technologies to facilitate interoperability and data
exchange.
 Appointment Management:
Exploring features within EHR systems that help
prevent scheduling conflicts and ensure efficient
appointment management, thereby improving
patient flow within healthcare facilities.
