1. a) The Cuk converter has following parameters Vs = 12V, D = 0.6, L1 = 200H, L2 = 100H, 8
C1 = C2 = 2F, and R = 12 , and the switching frequency is 250 kHz. Determine,
i) the output voltage.
ii) the average and the peak-to-peak variation of the currents in L1 and L2 and
iii) the peak-to-peak variation in the capacitor voltages.
b) Describe the boost converter in detail with an analysis of the switch closed and open. Also 8
derive equations for finding inductor and capacitor size along with maximum and
minimum inductor currents.

2. a) The buck-boost converter has VS = 24V, VO = −36V, and a load resistance of 10 . If the 8
switching frequency is 100 kHz (a) Draw the converter circuit diagram, (b) sketch the buck
boost converter waveforms, (c) determine the inductance such that the minimum current is
40 percent of the average, (b) determine the capacitance required to limit the output voltage
ripple to 0.5 percent.
b) Design a buck converter to produce an output voltage 18V across a 10 load resistor. The 8
output voltage ripple must not exceed 0.5%. The dc supply is 48V, Design for continuous
inductor current. Specify the duty ratio, the switching frequency, the values of the inductor
and capacitor, the peak voltage rating of each device, and the rms current in the inductor
and capacitor. Assume ideal components.
3. a) The single-phase fully-controlled bridge is connected to the RLE load. The source voltage 8
is 230 V, 50 Hz. The average load current of 10A is continuous over the working range. For
R = 0.4 and L = 2mH, Compute (a) the firing angle for E = 120 V (b) the firing angle for
E = -120 V (c) in case the output current is constant find the input power factors for both
parts a and b.

b) Explain the operation of a single-phase half-controlled bridge a.c. to d.c. converter with 8
RLE loads. Derive the expression for average load voltage, average load current, and RMS
load voltage. Also, sketch the associated waveforms.

4. a) Give the comparison between the non-circulating current mode and the circulating current 8
mode of a Dual converter.
b) A single-phase semi converter 230V, 1KW heater is connected across 1 phase 230V, 50Hz 8
supply through an SCR. For firing angle delay of 45º and 90º, Calculate the power absorbed
in the heater element.
5. a) Describe the modified McMurray half-bridge inverter with appropriate voltage and current 8
wave forms.
b) Write a note on CSI. Give the circuit analysis of the Current Source Inverter with resistive 8
load.

6. a) Describe the working of a single-phase half-bridge inverter. What is its main drawback? 8
Explain how this drawback is overcome.
b) Give the performance comparison of Voltage Source Inverter and Current Source Inverter. 8
7. a) What is PWM in the case of an inverter? Discuss how the frequency and magnitude of 8
voltage of the inverter can be changed with the help of PWM.
