KET/ PET - SPEAKING PLACEMENT TEST

I. Introduction: Students will introduce themselves and provide basic personal information.
1. What is your name? How old are you? Where do you study?
2. Where do you live? How many people are there in your family? Who are they?
II. Short Conversation: Engage the student in a short conversation, asking questions and
encouraging them to ask questions in return.
1. Let's talk about your favorite subject in school. What is it, and why do you like it?
2. Do you have any plans for the upcoming weekend? What are you going to do?
III. Free talk: Students will give a short presentation or talk about a topic. Teachers choose
one of the topics below:
 - Talk about what you like to do in your free time.
 - What technology do you often use, computers or smart phones? How often do
you use this device and why?
 - Talk about a book you've read recently. Describe the plot, characters, and why
you recommend it.

I’d like to move on and ask you some questions about shopping.
SHOPPING
Do you like shopping? Why/ why not?
Do you usually buy expensive things?
Do you prefer shopping online or shop at stores?
Is shopping a popular activity in your country? (Why/why not?)
DAILY ROUTINES
What do you usually do in your freetime?
Do you usually have the same routine everyday?
Is there any habits do you want to change?
What activities do you want to try in the future?
FILMS
How often do you go to the cinema?
What type of films do you like best? (Why?)
What type of films don’t you like? (Why not?
PART 2
Now we move on to part 2, I'm going to give you a topic and I'd like you to talk
about it for 1-2 minutes.
Before you talk you'll have one minute to think about what you are going to say and
you can make notes if you wish. Do you understand?
Ok, here's some paper and a pencil to make notes, and here is your topic.

Describe something you own which is very important to you.

how long you have had it
what you use it for
and explain why it is important to you.

PART 3
We've been talking about an important event in your life, and I'd now like to ask
you some questions related to this.
What kind of things do people value in your country?
Has it always been the same or did people value different things in the past?
Why do you think people need to show their status in society?
