 Type of behaviour that may expose you to harm which may prevent
you from reaching your full potential.

Two factors why it is important for youths to research about and


be knowledgeable about it

● Informed decision making


By understanding the risks and consequences, the youth can make informed
decisions by reducing the likelihood of engaging in harmful
behavior.
● Protection and harmful reduction
Being knowledgeable about risky behavior helps, the youth recognize
potential dangers and develop strategies to protect themselves and others,
this leads to improved physical and mental well-being.

1.3 Four contributing factors that may lead to an increase of


learners abusing substances in schools

● Accessibility and availability


Drug landlords may have delcars inside schools, which may lead to
temptation of more learners wanting to explore the experiment of using
drugs

● Academic pressure and stress


High levels of academic pressure and stress can lead learners to seek ways
to cope with demands of schools and performance expectations. Some turn to
substance abuse as means of managing stress.

● Lack of education and awareness


Lack of education and awareness about risky and consequences of engaging
substance abuse can leave students wanting to explore with drugs not fully
understanding the risks involved.

● Traumatic experiences
Learners who have experienced trauma such as physical or emotional abuse,
neglect or other unfavorable childhood experiences may turn to substance
abuse as a way to cope with their trauma.
1.4.1 Two impacts of drug addiction

• Emotional
-people who are struggling with addiction may face heightened feelings of
sadness anxiety, depression and anger.
- it can erode individuals’ side of self, feeling hopelessness and guilty.

• Physical
- Many drugs have the potential to cause cardiovascular issues which cab
range from increased heart heartrate and blood pressure
- Drug addiction can cause sleep disturbance and skin problems. A person
facial becomes old even though they are still on their youthful years.

are effective

about consequences of a substance abuse

reputation leading to missed promotions or limited career growth.

 Risky behavior can result in termination or disciplinary actions ,
comprising job security and stability.
