Job Description

Title: Development Consultant Contract Type: Full-time

Reports to: Consulting Manager Last Updated Date: October 2024

Job Overview:

The Development Consultant plays a key role in supporting the Manager in leading partners to achieve the
milestones outlined in the Transition Accelerator Program. This role involves capacity building through
training, consulting and mentoring, consistent follow-up with partners, collaborative planning with team
members, and reviewing capacity-building plans for the organizations under their supervision. The
Development Consultant will also manage multiple projects simultaneously in a dynamic, fast-paced, and
learning-focused environment.

Success in this position requires a versatile individual with strong multi-tasking skills, a passion for
client-centered work, and a proven track record in relationship management.

Responsibilities:

1. Onboarding and Capacity Building


○ Lead the onboarding of potential organizations into the Accelerator Program.
○ Develop and implement capacity-building plans as part of client engagements under the
supervision of the Consulting Manager.
○ Advise on strategy and governance, helping clients strengthen organizational systems.
○ Assess organizational capacity, collaborate with clients to develop joint recommendations,
and create capacity-building plans to address gaps.
○ Identify and propose potential pathways for clients to maximize impact and achieve their
goals.
○ Work closely with leadership to address emerging transition needs by diving deep into
capacity gaps.
2. Data Collection and Analysis
○ Conduct thorough capacity assessments and generate detailed reports.
○ Analyze assessment data and develop actionable capacity-building plans based on findings.
○ Actively participate in team debriefs, discussing key findings and crafting recommendations.
○ Prepare and deliver written reports and presentations that summarize analysis and suggested
strategies.
3. Facilitation and Presentation
○ Plan and facilitate meetings with donors, boards, management, staff, and other stakeholders.
○ Develop meeting agendas, manage discussions, and produce comprehensive meeting reports.
○ Assist in preparing and delivering elevator pitch presentations to clients and partners.
4. Project Management
○ Develop and maintain a detailed work breakdown structure for each client’s capacity-building
plans.
○ Track progress and ensure milestones are met, coordinating with clients and internal teams as
needed.
5. Client Relations
○ Build and maintain strong client relationships through regular communication (via email, video
calls, telephone, and in-person meetings).
○ Ensure client satisfaction by addressing concerns and providing ongoing support.
6. Supporting WezaCare’s Partner Contributions
○ Participate in internal consulting team meetings focused on strategy, tactical, and operational
planning.
○ Research and identify prospective partners, qualify leads, and follow up on potential
opportunities.
○ Assist in preparing for and attending meetings with prospective partners.
○ Draft capacity-building proposals, including budget outlines and work plans.
○ Represent WezaCare at sector conferences and meetings, fostering relationships and
promoting the firm’s services.
○ Post on social media and other relevant platforms to highlight key issues and events in the
firm’s service areas.

Job Requirements
Education:
● Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
Experience:
● Minimum of five years of relevant experience in the nonprofit or corporate sector, with consulting
and/or project management experience required.
● Experience working with diverse communities and across social, economic, and cultural differences is
preferred.
● Supervisory experience is desirable (essential for Senior Consultant roles).

Knowledge and Expertise:


● Strong understanding of Kenya’s care reform policies, including the Children’s Act 2022, National Care
Reform Strategy, and Transitioning Guidelines.
● Experience in transitioning care models from residential to family/community-based care and family
strengthening programs.

Qualifications
● Writing: Ability to present complex ideas in clear, concise reports.
● Analytical: Strong skills in problem-solving and developing actionable recommendations.
● Communication: Excellent facilitation and presentation abilities, with strong interpersonal skills.
● Client Relations: Experience working with various types of nonprofit leadership.
● Organizational: Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
● Self-Starter: Able to work independently, manage workload, and adapt to feedback.
● Technical: Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and familiarity with project management tools
(e.g., Airtable, ClickUp) and communication platforms (e.g., Slack) is preferred.
