Rob Cornilles hasnt seen his campaign message that hes a job creator go quite like hed hoped. Cornilles is the Republican nominee in the Jan. 31 special election to replace former U.S. Rep. David Wu. Hes running by talking up his credentials on the No. 1 issue voters want to hear about: creating Oregon jobs. His proof has been the success of his sports marketing company, Game Face, which his campaign claims is one of the most influential consulting and executive training firms in the sports industryworldwide. But news reports have since shrunk those claims down to size, citing problems with regulators, tax liens and the fact his company is a ghost of its former self. Hed go out and contract with these people and say Ill come in and train your ticket salespeople. Then he gets us to do it for free. The agreement, in which the former employees were paid for missing compensation, specifically stated that Game Face was not admitting to any wrongdoing. Touted that Virginia Garcia Health Center was Funded Through Medicare and Medicaid In 2011, Cornilles touted his work with the Virginia Garcia health center, funded in part through Medicare and Medicaid. Theres an organization that Im on the board for, its called Virginia Garcia. Virginia Garcia is what we call a community health center. Theyre all over the state, and certainly all over the country. We have 129 community health centers in Oregon. Virginia Garcia is the name of six of them, Im on their board, why? Because I believe theyre a good model we ought to be emulating around the country. A Virginia Garcia Community Health Center is a place where low income or no income individuals who need healthcare can come, they sit down with a person at the desk and they say I really need healthcare right now. Cornilles continued, And they work out a payment plan with this individual, not for insurance, but for care. And then whatever that person can pay, the rest is made up through Medicaid, the rest is made up through Medicare, the rest is made up through private donations and other forms of funding. Im also on the board of Virginia Garcia Memorial Foundation. You probably know Virginia Garcia, its a community health center in fact there are six almost seven clinics in Washington and Yamhill counties. Im on that organizations board because I believe strongly that healthcare is a vital interest in our community and healthcare coming out of Washington is not fixing our problem. But rather community health centers are just that, theyre opportunities locally to fix national problems. And Im a huge believer in what were doing at Virginia Garcia, to lend healthcare, not health insurance, but healthcare to those who are either unemployed or perhaps with low income or worse yet no income. Thats something I care deeply about.
