The act of March 4, 1909, going into effect July 1, 1909, provides
that the Catalogue of Copyright Entries “shall be admitted in any
court as prima facie evidence of the facts stated therein as regards
any copyrighted registration.”

HE Catalogue of Copyright Entries is published in four parts. Part 4, —

issued quarterly, is arranged in two alphabets of proprietors, as
follows: 2
I. Containing Class G, Works of art (giving a list of the photographs or
other identifying reproductions deposited according to law with the applica-
tions for copyright of Drawings, Paintings, Statutes, Statuary, and Models or
Designs for works of art). In this class a subalphabet of titles is used when
the copyright proprietor and artist are the same, this identity being indicated
by the use of an asterisk (*) after the name of the proprietor. A subalphabet
of artists is used when the proprietor and artists are different.
II. Containing titles for Class H, Reproductions of a work of art; Class i,
Drawings or plastic works of a scientific or technical character; Class J,
Photographs (except Motion pictures); and Class K, Prints and pictorial
illustrations. In these classes a subalphabet of titles only is used.
Titles for Class L, Motion-picture photoplays, and Class M, Motion pictures
other than photoplays, have been transferred to Part 1, Group 2, of the Cata-
logue because of their similarity to Class D, Dramatic compositions, and are
published monthly therein as a title list.
Under the act of March 4, 1909, the preliminary entry of titles has been
abrogated and registration follows deposit of copies with an application for
entry in the Copyright Office.
To save space in the Catalogue the copyright notice after each title is
abbreviated. The abbreviations used in this part are as follows: “G,” Class
G, Works of art; “ H,” Class H, Reproductions of a work of art; “I,” Class I,
Drawings or plastic works of a scientific or technical character; “J,” Class J,
Photographs; and “K,” Class K, Prints and pictorial illustrations. “©”
implies copyright registration of a published work, followed by a date of
publication. “© 1 c¢.” stands for copyright registration of an unpublished
work, followed by date of receipt in the Copyright Office of the photograph
or other identifying reproduction; and “2 c.” for 2 copies, followed by the
date of their receipt. In the case of foreign works and pictorial contributions
to periodicals, only 1 copy is required.
The annual index of proprietors, portraits, and principal artists is furnished
for this part in the final issue for the year. The subscription price for part 4,
which must be for the complete calendar year, is $0.50 a year, payable in
advance to the Superintendent of Documents, by postal money order, express
order, or New York draft.
