INTRODUCTION:
My name is ATTA ANGIOSHUYE, a Nigerian, and I am applying for the Doctor of philosophy (Ph.
D) degree in Architectural Technology and Environment at the University of Toronto. My passion lies
in creating sustainable and environmentally friendly structures that enhance the lives of individuals
and communities. My goal is to become a leading researcher and practitioner in this field, and
contribute to the development of innovative and inclusive solutions for the built environment.
BACKGROUND:
I have a Master of Technology in Architecture from the Cross River University of Technology,
Calabar, Cross River State. During my Post graduate diploma studies, I developed a strong foundation
in architectural design, and technology, as well as a keen interest in environmental issues. I participated
in several projects that challenged me to apply my skills and creativity to real-world problems, such as
designing affordable housing, improving urban resilience, and promoting community engagement. I
also gained valuable experience as an intern at XYZ Architects, where I assisted in the design and
documentation of various residential and commercial projects, and learned how to use advanced
software tools and techniques, such as AutoCAD.
OBJECTIVES:
1) To gain a deep understanding of the technical aspects of architectural design, construction, and
materials.
2) To learn about sustainable building practices and environmental impact assessment,
3) To develop the skills necessary to integrate technology and environmental considerations into
architectural designs.
METHODOLOGY:
As regards methodology, I plan to engage in vigorous coursework that covers topics such as building
systems, energy-efficient design and sustainable building materials. I aim to explore the current and
emerging trends, challenges, and opportunities in this field of Architectural Technology and
Environment, and to develop a conceptual framework and a set of design guidelines and best practices
that can inform and inspire future projects and policies. I believe that this research is timely and
significant, as it addresses one of the most pressing issues facing the built environment today, and has
the potential to improve the quality of life, health, and well-being of millions of people around the
world.
EXPECTED OUTCOME:
The expected outcome of the research is a comprehensive and coherent understanding of the
relationship between architectural technology and environment, and a set of practical and innovative
recommendations for designing buildings that are adaptive, responsive, and resilient to climate change
and human needs. I will also compare and contrast the outcome with the existing literature and practice,
and identify the gaps, strengths, and weaknesses of my research.
In conclusion, portfolio of work will be developed to showcase ability to create environmentally
conscious and innovative structures.
RESEARCH PROGRESS:
I have completed the first phase of my research, which involved conducting a literature review and a
preliminary survey of the current practice in architectural technology and environment. I have
identified the main concepts, models, frameworks, methods that are relevant and useful for my research
topic and question, and also developed a research proposal and a research design, and obtained
approval from the supervisor. The main findings of this phase are that architectural technology and
environment are interrelated and interdependent, and that they can be integrated to create buildings
that are adaptive, responsive, and resilient to climate change and human needs. also found is the lack
of comprehensive and coherent understanding and guidance on how to achieve this integration, and
that there is a need for further research and development in this field.
