Notes for Class 4 Unit Test:

Ecosystems and Habitats:

• Ecosystem: A natural environment where living things (plants, animals) and non-
living things (water, soil) interact with each other. Examples include forests, deserts,
and ponds.

• Fish Habitat: Fish live in water habitats like lakes, rivers, and oceans. Water is
essential for their survival.

• Adaptation - Camouflage: Some animals use camouflage to blend into their

environment, making it harder for predators to find them.

Animal Behavior:

• Hibernation: Animals hibernate during winter when food is scarce. They sleep for
long periods to conserve energy. Examples include bears and bats.

• Migration: Some animals migrate to warmer regions to find food and better living
conditions. Birds are common examples of animals that migrate during winter.

• Common Cold Climate Behavior:

o Hibernation: Animals sleep to survive the cold.

o Migration: Animals travel to warmer areas.

Impact of Habitat Loss:

• When trees are cut down, animals lose their homes and food sources, leading to
habitat destruction. This can cause animals to struggle for survival.

Plant Survival:

• Water: All plants need water to grow and survive. Without water, plants will wither
and die.

• Sunlight: Plants need sunlight for photosynthesis, a process that helps them make
their own food. Without sunlight, they cannot survive for long.

Environmental Awareness:

• Trash in Animal Habitats: Trash can harm animals by polluting their environment or
making them sick. It’s important to clean up and protect animal habitats from
pollution.
Effect of Darkness on Plants:

• If a plant is kept in a dark room for a long time, it won’t be able to perform
photosynthesis. Without sunlight, the plant will eventually stop growing and die.

Difference Between Migration and Hibernation:

• Migration: The seasonal movement of animals to find better living conditions,

typically to escape the cold.

• Hibernation: A long period of sleep that helps animals conserve energy during the
winter when food is scarce.
