1. Explain the importance of History as the systematic study of the
past, with reference to the difference between history and the past
and the role historians play in writing history.
The past' is set in stone and cannot be changed, while 'history' is an ongoing debate about
how to understand the past that is subject to modification and change. 'History' is based on
what we know about 'the past,' which is based on the evidence that is accessible. You can't
write a history without relying on evidence. History is useful as a study in a variety of ways.
Some of the ideals are universal, meaning they apply to the subject's teaching in all
contexts. Other values are specific and limited. The y pertain to specific sorts of history, are
appropriate for a specific level of education, or are the required outcome of teaching when
done in a specific style. History is a rich storehouse of knowledge that can help solve all of
humanity's issues in science and art, language and literature, social and political life,
philosophical speculation, and economic progress. Without uprooting the tree, history gives
us the roots. Simply having an emotional relationship to our past will not help us unless it is
followed by a serious, mature, and intellectual assessment of the values involved. History is
a scout for mankind's future. Historians use the historical method to collect and assess data
from a variety of primary sources in order to answer questions about historical occurrences.
During the course of their investigations, they may examine written records, tangible objects,
and other sorts of evidence. Historians frequently write reports to explain the significance of
their findings, demonstrating how fresh discoveries are relevant and valuable in modern
society.

2.Discuss why it is important to study history with reference to

change and knowledge.
Change is the only thing that are permanent in the wold. However, a lot of people fail to
appreciate this change. Failure to appreciate the change leads a lot of people into repeating
old mistakes. Studying history helps you to appreciate that things have changed in a nation,
profession, institutions, society, among humankind, and such other places. Studying history
Is important because it allows us to understand where we came from and what led us to
where we are. If we want to know the how and why of the world as it is today, we must
understand the changes that took place and have the correct knowledge about those events.
History captures the stories of people and communities over centuries and millenniums. It
teaches people about conquests, origins, personalities, technology, geography, and other
aspects of life. It is interesting to know where different people and communities have come
from. History can be seen as stories that have been passed down from generation to
generation. The same stories can be told from different perspectives which also shows us
how people have lived through change. There is saying, “history repeats itself”, and
according to that we must gain knowledge and wisdom with regards to the history of our
world. Knowledge about who you are and where you come from – your history – is very
important because it gives you an idea of who you are and where you belong. History must
be approach as an exercise in understanding, which involves critical thinking, careful
assessment and evaluation of sources.
