Creatures
Introduction
Mythical Creatures are creatures from the
world of Fantasy and are based on mythology.
The Satyr is from Greek myths. In Greek art

Satyr
they were represented as a man with a
horse's ears and tail, but in Roman art, it
represents as a man with a goat's ears, tail,
legs, and horns. Satyrs are closely related
with the god Dionysus.
Griffin
The griffin is a legendary
creature with the body,
tail, and back legs of a
lion; the head and wings
of an eagle; and
sometimes an eagle's
talons as its front feet.
Tarasque
The Tarasque is a legendary
creature. It has a lion’s head, a
turtle’s shell, a scorpion's sting
and legs like a bear’s. Some
people say it’s a version of a
dragon. It also breathes fire and
likes to swim. Some people who
believe in it say it inhabit the
waters of Ha Long Bay in
Vietnam, where there used to be
a french colony.
Phoenix
In Greek mythology, a phoenix is
a long-lived bird that constantly
regenerates or is born again.
Phoenix's are also called the
firebird. Phoenix's are also a
spiritual totem, a Phoenix
represents strength and renewal.
Jormungand, Hel and Fenris

In Norse Mythology, The god Loki


and a giantess had three monstrous
kids. The first one was Jormungand
or Midgard serpent. He was The
World Snake, which Odin (another
god) threw in the ocean and he
became the sea serpent. The
second was Hel, she became the
goddess of the dishonored dead.
She is supposed to have a half live
face and half dead face. Lastly, the
third was Fenris or fenrir, he was a
wolf.
Hippogriff
The word hippogriff, also spelled
hippogryph, is derived from the
Ancient Greek: "horse", and the
Italian grifo meaning "griffin",
which denotes another mythical
creature, with the head of an
eagle and body of a lion.
Akhlut
In Inuit mythology, Akhlut is a
spirit that takes the form of both
a wolf and an orca. It is a vicious,
dangerous beast. Its tracks can
be recognized because they are
wolf tracks that lead to and from
the ocean.
Basilisk
In European legends, a basilisk
is a legendary reptile who is said
to be a serpent king who can
cause death with a single glance.
That explains why in Greek it
means ‘little king’.
Yeti
In the folklore of Nepal, the Yeti
or Abominable Snowman is an
ape-like creature taller than an
average human, that is said to
live in the Himalayan and
Siberian regions of East Asia.
The name ‘Yeti comes from the
indigenous people’.
Ogopogo Manipogo
In Canadian Folklore, the Ogopogo or Naitaka is In Canadian folklore, the Manipogo is a lake
a lake monster reported to live in Okanagan monster said to live in Lake Manitoba, Manitoba.
Lake, in British Columbia, Canada. The The name comes from the Ogopogo but instead
Ogopogo has been seen by the First Nations Manipogo. There has been many sightings of
since the 19th century. Some say it looks like a the Manipogo. It is also based on the monster
giant snake. legend in 1908.
