General Instruction

1. There are 35 questions in total. All questions are compulsory.


2. This question paper has 5 sections Section A, Section B, Section C, Section D and
Section E.All the sections are compulsory.
3. Section A contains 18 MCQ of 1 mark each; Section B contains 7 Questions of 2 marks
each, Section C contains 5 Questions of 3 marks each, section D contains 3 long
questions of 5 marks each and section E contains 2 case study based questions of 4
marks each.
4. There is no overall choice. However, an internal choice has been provided in section B,
C, D and E. You have to attempt only one of the choices in such questions.
5. Use of calculator is not permitted.

22) Calculate the value of stress in a wire of Steel having a radius of 2 mm when 10 kN of force
is applied on it.

24) A balloon is ascending at the rate of 4.9 m/sec. A pocket is dropped from the balloon

25) An engine of 100 H.P. draws a train of mass 200 metric ton with a velocity of 36 Km/h. Find
the coefficient of friction.

26) Define molar specific heat at constant pressure, 𝐶 and molar specific heat at constant
volume, 𝐶 and Derive Mayer’s formula.

27) Define the term moment of Inertia. Derive an expression for Parallel axis theorem and
Perpendicular axis theorem with leveled diagram.

28) The position vectors of two masses of 6 and 2 units are (6𝚤̂-7𝚥̂) and (2𝚤̂+5𝚥̂-8𝑘) respectively.
Deduce the position of their centre of mass.
Or
A wheel of a motor, accelerated uniformly from rest, rotates through 2.5 radian during the
first second. Find the angle rotated during the next second.

29) The equations of a wave is given by Y= 6 sin 10 𝜋 t + 8 cos10 𝜋 t ,where y is in centimetre


and t in seconds. Determine the constant involved in the standard equation of the wave.

Find a unit vector perpendicular to both the vectors 𝐴⃗ = (3𝚤̂+𝚥̂+2𝑘 ) and 𝐵⃗ = (2𝚤̂-2𝚥̂+4𝑘).

34. Read the text carefully and answer the questions [4]

The highway police chased down and arrested a man accused of vehicle theft. He was nabbed after a
kilometres long chase while trying to flee with a car stolen from the nearby area. The car had been
parked with the key still in the ignition. The owner raised an alarm on seeing his car being driven away.
The highway police, who happened to pass through the area then, gave the accused a chase. He then
tried to escape after abandoning the car, and the police personnel pursued him. The police van was
moving on a highway with a speed of 30 km/h fired a bullet at a thief 's car speeding away in the same
direction with a speed of 192 km/h. The muzzle speed of the bullet was 150 m/s

i). What is the speed of police van in m/sec?
