At its annual Awards Luncheon yesterday, the Morris County Detectives Association recognized the efforts of two Morris Township detectives.

Detective of the Year: On January 16th 2010 at 02:11am, Det. Adam Sutherland responded to the A-Plus Sunoco gas station on East Hanover Ave. to process the crime scene of a reported armed robbery. On his arrival he met with the victim and further developed a concise description of the suspect and established a timeline of the events that evening. The suspect who was on foot came to the station with the intent to purchase gas for a vehicle that was apparently disabled in the area. The suspect began to fight with the employees at the station and he eventually pulled a knife and threatened to stab the employees. At 03:47am Det. Sutherland was requested to photograph a vehicle the suspect may have been operating found a short distance from the crime scene. As Det. Sutherland proceeded to this location he observed a subject along Ridgedale Ave who matched the description of the suspect. When Det Sutherland approached the subject and identified himself as a Police Officer the individual began to flee. After a short foot pursuit with other Officers the suspect was apprehended. The suspect was convicted of several criminal offenses and remanded to State Prison. Det. Meritorious Service: On Tuesday, December 20, 2011 Morris Township Detective, Brian Holick received a Meritorious Award from the Morris County Detective Association. At its annual awards luncheon yesterday, Detective Holick was recognized for his involvement into a 2009/2010 ATM burglary spree. Beginning on November 30th 2009 our business community was victimized four times by an organized Burglary group that targeted ATM machines. The four Burglaries in Morris Township netted the criminals just over $50.000.00 in proceeds. As our lead detective on the case, Det Holick was assigned to a task force to investigate the Burglaries as seven Morris County towns had been victimized by this criminal operation. Based on a tip and during months of surveillance and intelligence gathering a suspect was identified. The surveillance team was able to identify the next potential target in another County. A cooperative effort between numerous agencies ultimately lead to the arrest of several suspects and ended a profitable crime spree. Det. Holick was a part of the interview team that elicited the confessions from the suspects and subsequent guilty pleas. The suspects were convicted of several criminal offenses and remanded to State Prison. Det. Holick is recognized for his months of work on this case, his interview skills and clearance of four Burglaries in Morris Township.
