WHS and OHS requirements are rules to keep workers safe. Here are simple procedures for
working safely:
1. Chemicals :Knowwhatyou'reworkingwith,useprotectivegear,andhandlethem
carefully.
2. Machinery:Gettrainedonhowtousemachines,doregularchecks,anddon'tforget
safety guards.
3. Lifting :Liftthingsproperlytoavoidhurtingyourself.Usetoolsifsomething'stooheavy.
4. Electricity :Checkequipmentregularly,reportanyissues,andonlylettrainedpeoplefix

6. Protective Gear:Weartherightgearforthejobandtakecareofit.
7. Emergencies :Knowwhattodoifsomethinggoeswrongandhavefirstaidkitsnearby.
2. Service Manual: For more detailed information, consult the service manual
specific to your vehicle model. It often provides step-by-step instructions for
various maintenance procedures, along with specifications and tolerances.
This manual is typically used by mechanics but can be valuable for
enthusiasts who prefer DIY maintenance.
3. Online Resources: Manufacturers may also provide servicing information on
their official websites or through online portals. You can access FAQs,
troubleshooting guides, and videos that demonstrate specific maintenance
tasks.
4. Authorized Service Centers: If in doubt, consult authorized service centers
or certified mechanics who are trained to interpret and apply servicing
information correctly. They can provide insights into any updates or special
considerations specific to your vehicle.
1. Inspect the Engine: Begin by visually inspecting the engine for any obvious signs of
damage, leaks, or wear and tear. Check all fluid levels, such as oil, coolant, and brake fluid,
and top up as necessary.
2. DiagnosticTesting(ifapplicable):Iftheworkinstructionscallfordiagnostictesting,use the
appropriate equipment to perform tests on the engine to identify any issues or malfunctions.
This may include using a diagnostic scanner to retrieve error codes or performing
compression tests.
3. FollowServicingProcedures:Followthestep-by-stepservicingproceduresoutlinedin the
work instructions. This may involve tasks such as changing the oil and oil filter, replacing
spark plugs, inspecting and replacing air filters, checking and adjusting engine timing, and
performing any other maintenance tasks as specified.
4. Document Work Done: (Inspection report form or check list) Keep detailed records of the
work performed, including any parts replaced, adjustments made, and test results. This
documentation may be necessary for quality control purposes, warranty claims, or future
reference.
5. Clean Up: Once the inspection and servicing are complete, clean up the work area and
properly dispose of any waste materials, such as used oil or old parts. Return tools and
equipment to their designated storage locations.
6. Final Inspection: Before concluding the job, conduct a final inspection to ensure that all
tasks have been completed correctly and that the engine is functioning properly. Double-
check all fluid levels, connections, and adjustments.
7. Report Completion: Report the completion of the inspection and servicing job to the
appropriate supervisor or manager, providing any necessary documentation or reports.
Coolant Tester: Allows you to check the concentration and condition of the
engine coolant.
Engine Oil Pressure Gauge: Measures the oil pressure within the engine,
indicating whether it's within the recommended range.
Timing Light: Used to check and adjust the ignition timing of the engine.
Feeler Gauges: Used for measuring small gaps, such as spark plug gaps or
valve clearances.
Engine Hoist (if necessary): For more in-depth inspections or repairs that
require lifting the engine out of the vehicle.
Flashlight: Essential for inspecting hard-to-reach areas within the engine bay.
Safety Gear: Safety glasses, gloves, and other personal protective equipment
(PPE) to ensure your safety while working on the engine.
1. Oil Changes: Regularly changing the engine oil and oil filter every 11,000 to 18,000 km
helps maintain engine lubrication and performance.
2. Air Filter Replacement: The air filter prevents dirt and debris from entering the engine
and should be replaced regularly to ensure proper airflow.
3. Spark Plug Replacement: Worn spark plugs can affect engine performance, so they
should be replaced according to the manufacturer's recommendations.
4. Coolant Flush: Flushing the coolant system removes dirt and debris, preventing
overheating and corrosion.
5. Timing Belt/Chain Replacement: Timing belts/chains control the timing of engine
components and should be replaced at the recommended intervals to prevent engine
damage.
6. Fuel Filter Replacement: The fuel filter prevents contaminants from reaching the
engine and should be replaced regularly to maintain fuel efficiency and performance.
7. PCV Valve Replacement: The PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) valve regulates
airflow in the engine and should be replaced periodically to prevent oil leaks and engine
damage.
8. Inspect Belts and Hoses: Check belts and hoses for signs of wear or damage and
replace them as needed to prevent engine overheating or failure.
9. Check Fluid Levels: Regularly check engine oil, coolant, transmission fluid, brake fluid,
and power steering fluid levels and top them up as needed.
10.Engine Tune-Up: Periodically perform a comprehensive engine tune-up, including
checking and adjusting ignition timing, cleaning throttle body, and inspecting ignition system
components.
MAINTENANCE CHECKLISTS
What are Maintenance Checklists?
➢ Maintenance checklists and logbooks are tools used by technicians to document
equipment maintenance inspections. Equipment maintenance involves the continuous
process of checking, repairing, and servicing operating equipment to ensure businesses can
function without interruption.
Why is it important?
➢ Having a maintenance checklist is fundamental to having a well managed operation.
➢ A good maintenance checklist helps your maintenance team do their job efficiently and
protects your business from unanticipated breakdowns and costs.
TERMINOLOGIES
1. ENGINE MAINTENANCE - Engine maintenance is vital to keep your car or truck
operating at peak performance. It also impacts the longevity of your vehicle's engine.
2. MAINTENANCE CHECKLIST - tools used by technicians to document equipment
