1. Scaffold may only be erected, altered or dismantled under the supervision of a competent person appointed in writing.
2. Scaffold build on gravel or sand must have sole plates. Base jacks must not extend more than 400mm. Scaffold standards must be secure and
braced. All scaffold components must be in good condition, free of corrosion and not damaged.
3. Scaffolding shall be erected in such a way so as not to obstruct any throughway or access ladder.
4. Dangerous protruding ends of scaffold components must be identified clearly to warn employees of the danger.
5. Do not allow material closer than 2m from scaffold when being hoisted by crane. Guide ropes to be used.
6. Scaffold platforms higher than 2m above the ground must be provided with handrails and kick/toe boards.
7. Scaffold is to tie to existing wherever possible.
8. If the scaffold cannot be tied to a structure, correct bracing and propping must be done.
9. Heavy equipment/material must not be placed on scaffold platforms unless the scaffold has been designed to hold the weight.
10. Area on ground level below scaffold must be kept free from rocks, material, rubble and debris.
11. During erection and dismantling of scaffold, employees not involved must be kept away from area.
