Natural Frequency Calculation: Step: 7

The Natural Frequencies for the vessel have been computed iteratively
by solving a system of matrices. These matrices describe the mass and
the stiffness of the vessel. This is the generalized eigenvalue/
eigenvector problem and is referenced in some mathematical texts.

The Natural Frequency for the Vessel (Empty.) is 32.3939 Hz.

The Natural Frequency for the Vessel (Ope...) is 32.3939 Hz.

Wind Load Calculation: Step: 8

Z - Maximum amplitude of vibration at top of vessel mm

Dl - Logarithmic decrement ( taken as 0.03 for Welded Structures )
Vp - Vib. Chance, <= 0.000320369 (High); 0.000320369 < 0.000400461 (Probable)
P30 - wind pressure 30 feet above the base

Check other Conditions and Basic Assumptions:

#1 - Total Cone Length / Total Length < 0.5
0/514.6 = 0

#2 - ( D / L² ) * 10^(4) < 8.0 (English Units)

- ( 4.681/16.88² ) * 10^(4) = 164.3 [Geometry Violation]

Compute the vibration possibility. If Vp > 0.000400461 no chance. [Vp]:

= W / ( L * Dr²)
= 2563/( 514.6 * 141.5² )
= 0.24863E-03

Compute the damping factor Df which is a measure of instability [Df]:

= W * Dl/ ( L * Dr² )
= 2563 * 0.03/( 514.6 * 141.5² )
= 0.466

Compute the critical wind velocity [Vc]:

= 3.4 * f * Dr
= 3.4 * 32.39 * 4.644
= 511.454 mile/hr [823.083 km/hr]

Compute the velocity at the top of the tower [Vw]:

= V30 * ( L / ( 30 + BaseHeight ))^(0.143)
= 241.4 * ( 514.6/( 30 + 0 ))^0.143
= 222.342 km/hr

Compute the maximum gust velocity using the gust response factor Gh [Vg]:
= Vw * Gh
= 222.3 * 1
= 222.342 km/hr

Since Vc is greater than Vg the dynamic deflection Z, does not

need to be computed.

The Natural Frequency for the Vessel (Ope...) is 32.3939 Hz.

Calculation of Load per Bolt [W/Bolt], Earthquake + Operating Condition:

= (( 4 * M/DC ) - W ) / RN per Jawad & Farr, Eq. 12.3

= (( 4 * 4360/1531 ) - 3246 )/8
= 1018.1116 kgf

Basering Calculations: Step: 17

Concrete Load (Simplified method), Earthquake in Operating Condition [Sc]:

= ((ppl/100*(Abt*Sa)+W)/Cca) + M/CZ per Jawad & Farr Eq. 12.1
= (1 (21.79 *1758 +3246 )/6621 ) + 4360/227203904
= 8.19 kgf/cm²

Concrete Allowable Stress 84.37 kgf/cm²

Determine Maximum Bending Width of Basering Section [Rw1,Rw2]:

Rw1 = (Dou - SkirtOD)/2, Rw2 = ( SkirtID - Di + 2*Sca )/2
Rw1 = (1631 -1384 )/2, Rw2 = (1358 -1348 + 2*3.2 )/2
Rw1 = 123.5, Rw2 = 8.2 mm

Calculation of required Basering Thickness, (Simplified) [Tb]:

Allowable Bending Stress 1.5 Basope = 2109.210 kgf/cm²
= Max(Rw1,Rw2) * ( 3 * Sc / S )½ + CA per Jawad & Farr Eq. 12.12
= Max(123.5,8.2 ) * ( 3 * 8.194/2109 )½ + 0
= 13.3329 mm

Basering Stress at given Thickness [Sb]

= 3 * Sc * ( Max[Rw1, Rw2]/(Tb - Ca) )²
= 3 * 8.194 * ( Max[123.5, 8.2 ]/(25 - 0 ) )²
= 599.9, must be less than 2109 kgf/cm²

Summary of Basering Thickness Calculations:

Required Basering Thickness (simplified) 13.3329 mm
Actual Basering Thickness as entered by user 25.0000 mm

Weld Size Calculations per Steel Plate Engineering Data - Vol. 2

Compute the Weld load at the Skirt/Base Junction [W]

= SkirtStress * ( SkirtThickness - CA )
= 39.78 * ( 13 - 3.2 )

Results for Computed Minimum Basering Weld Size [BWeld]

= W / [( 0.4 * Yield ) * 2 * 0.707]
= 3.899/[( 0.4 * 2504 ) * 2 * 0.707]
= 0.275 mm

General Notes for the above table:

The Cut Length is the Outside Projection + Inside Projection + Drop +

In Plane Shell Thickness. This value does not include weld gaps,
nor does it account for shrinkage.

In the case of Oblique Nozzles, the Outside Diameter must

be increased. The Re-Pad WIDTH around the nozzle is calculated as follows:
Width of Pad = (Pad Outside Dia. (per above) - Nozzle Outside Dia.)/2

For hub nozzles, the thickness and diameter shown are those of the smaller
and thinner section.

Note: The Wind and Seismic loads were not load factored in this analysis.

Note:
Wind and Earthquake moments include the effects of user defined
forces and moments if any exist in the job and were specified
to act (compute loads and stresses) during these cases. Also
included are moment effects due to eccentric weights if any are
present in the input.
