I consider myself as a linguaphile, so I do want to get the hang of the myriad of foreign
languages, and the one that I would prioritize to learn first would definitely be Chinese.
When I was a child, I watched lots of Chinese films and listened to many Chinese songs with my
mother, and I found that their accent was really exciting. So my passion for Chinese was grown
from that period of time.
My main major is English, so currently, I have a lot on my plate, so making a concrete study is
hard. But I have been giving it some thought and have made a few bullet points as to what I
would do to become fluent in Chinese.
I enrolled in Chinese as a second language in my university and my lecturer here has equipped
me with basic greetings and conversational sentences, as well as the ability to grasp the
Chinese’s grammar.
And, I believe in the power of self-learning, so I would continue to study from textbooks and
Chinese media, such as movies, songs or books for better vocabulary. From the honeymoon
phase, I found it quite easy to learn, but then, it is more and more difficult, and I need to sustain
my motivation and enthusiasm with Chinese.
The most important reason for me to learn Chinese is that I will have the opportunity to
understand the depths of one of the biggest culture powerhouses in the world through the
language it uses, it also helps me to reminisce about my childhood, when I watched films with
my mom.
Group 9: an app: duolingo
So, I’m gonna tell you about an app that I installed and then decided to stop using. This app is
called duolingo.
When I was in my high school time, my teacher of English encouraged us to installed an app to
learn English better. So, I started to ask many friends and teachers around me to know which app
was good and efficient, and then they introduced to me duolingo. Visually, it looked quite cute
with the green bird, so I decided to install it.
First, at the beginning, I felt that it was really useful for me to learning English, like because I
could study all listening, reading, writing and speaking skills on this app. It had a huge number
of new words, which was arranged by different topics. Moreover, it would check your
pronunciation, so that you could realize your mistakes and fix them. Another benefit is that it
would remind you about your study every day, so you couldn’t forget. Or if you have interest in
learning more than one language, you can also study: Chinese, Japanese, …. Right on this app.
But when I became a grade 12 students, I needed to take many crucial tests and focus on many
subjects in order to prepare for my university entrance exam, so I didn’t have much time to spend
on this app. Furthermore, I found it was really annoying. Cause I had lots of work to do, and this
app reminded me every day like: why I didn’t study English, it was really annoyed, so I decided
to stop using it.
I found that my decision was right, because it made my phone’s memory storage was much
lighter and I could concentrate more on my study, so that, I could pass many exams and study in
a prestigious university in vn.
Group 10: discussion:
Let me tell you about an occasion when I had a group discussion for a team project.
It just happened 1 week ago. As my major was the English Language, my teacher assigned me to
prepare a group presentation about a favorite topic. Quickly in my head, I decided to try the
topic of music genres.
With the topic in my head, I immediately turned to some of my classmates who are also my best
friends and asked if they liked my idea. Fortunately, six of them agreed without hesitation. In
the following days, we had about 2 meetings in a small cafe near our school for the preparation
process.
During the meetings, many ideas were brought up and discussed such as whether we should add
hip-hop into one of the genres or not and whether we should mention Lady Gaga as a symbol of
modern pop culture or not. Everything went through with the six of us as easily as a piece of
cake despite some minor disagreements in the beginning. I suppose the most efficient way
to tackle all the problems is to talk them through honesty and logic.
And well, then day came and obviously our six members made a perfect performance on stage
in front of the other classmates and our teacher. I’m not sure about other guys and girls in my
group but for me, I was really satisfied. Thanks to some conflicts and wise solutions during the
preparation process, I had learned well how to cooperate with others effectively. Besides, this
group presentation is a glue that helped to strengthen the friendship bonds among us.
Group 11: Music: Hello Adele
I have always been a massive fan of music. I love listening to music because good music helps
me recharge my battery as well as uplift my spirit after a long day overloaded with work and
study. I listen to many different kinds of music, from Rock to Jazz. And today I’m going to tell
you about one of my favourite songs, titled ‘Hello’.
The genre is pop, as characterized by its upbeat music and simple, down-to-earth lyrics. The
song is so viral , I mean, it’s the talk of the town. It’s been topping the charts for weeks and
has got millions of streams on music sites.
The person who performs the song is Adele, an internationally acclaimed artist, from the UK.
She’s successful with her albums, but she’s maintained a somewhat low-profile lifestyle. I am a
huge fan of her.
I listened to the song almost everyday. It was when I was in the middle of finals. I was up to the
ears in revision and it was incredibly nerve-racking time, so I needed something to relieve
stress. That’s when I went to YouTube to watch some music videos. The minute I heard Adele’s
voice, I was hooked and totally blown away. I’ve put the song on repeat ever since.
I am keen on the song for a number of reasons. First, it was her voice that struck me, which is a
nice warm quality to it. The lyrics is also dope. It talks about emotions after two people part
ways in a relationship and I can definitely relate to that. So I always remember this song.
A means of inspiration: music plays a crucial role, it bring back spiritual values to people
The object I want to talk about is a necklace that my mother inherited from my grandmother.
It’s a gold necklace with a pendant that’s studded with diamonds and rubies. I think it’s one of
the most beautiful pieces of jewelry I’ve ever seen.
I first saw the necklace when my grandmother passed it down to my mom a few years ago. She
had always worn it on special occasions, and I remember admiring it as a child.
The necklace itself is quite delicate, with a fine gold chain and a small pendant that’s about the
size of a quarter. The pendant is in the shape of a flower and has a central diamond surrounded
by smaller rubies in a petal design. The combination of the gold, diamonds, and rubies creates
a stunning effect that catches the light beautifully.
I think this necklace is beautiful for several reasons. Firstly, it’s a family heirloom that’s been
passed down through generations, which makes it special to me. Secondly, the intricate design
and combination of gemstones is truly eye-catching and unique. And finally,
the sentimental value that it holds for my family makes it even more beautiful.
In conclusion, the necklace that my mom inherited from my grandmother is an object that I think
is truly beautiful. Its delicate design, combination of gemstones, and sentimental value make it
a precious possession.
