Journal Prompt: Write down a recent situation which created an intense reaction
Once I left my phone somewhere and I couldn’t find it. It was terrible. But I found it later when I like
calmed down or something. I was really mad at myself and nervous because I thought I lost it but when I
found it I was fine. My emotions were negative because I couldn’t think properly and I like kind of died
inside.

Empathy Is important so that you can understand other peoples emotions better. You can help people
get through tough times. You can encourage them to keep going and that they can get through it. You
have similar experiences and you can relate to their feelings.
Defense mechanisms:
Displacement – taking your feelings out on the person who hurt you
Sublimation – Taking strong feelings anger and sadness and using them in a positive way
Arguing back and not being calm can lead to worse things

What are the emotional needs, How do you meet each need, Need vs Want
1. The need to love and be loved, the need to belong, the need to make a difference
2. To meet the love need it is about caring for other. It directs decisions we make and the actions we
take. You want to be loved and feel special by family and friends. To be loved you might belong to a club
or a team. This lets you accept yourself and respect yourself. The need to make a difference you must

feel like you are contributing and that your life has a meaning. You want to feel like you are
accomplishing something.
3. A need is something that you need to survive. For example, maybe food r water. A want would be not
necessary for you to survive. You wouldn’t need the new expensive iPhone although you want it. That’s
the difference between a need and a want. Wants aren’t as important as needs because you don t need
them to survive.
