What is, in your opinion, the best rock album of the

2010's?
Discussion

I noticed that most of the rock music I own is from the 2000's and
earlier and I want to find more contemporary stuff.

Comments like 'all contemporary rock music sucks' aren't helpful.

Melophobia really surprised me. It was like Cage the Elephant
said "hey lets pretend we're Modest Mouse" and it worked
soooo well

[deleted] 7y !
I wasn't hearing Modest Mouse much in the album, it felt
more like Franz Ferdinand and The Strokes recording an
album featuring Matt Schultz.

Tame Impala - Lonerism

more Rock n' Roll

Reignwolf - Are you Satisfied?

Sheepdogs - Learn & Burn

Here's what I discovered this morning. Pretty groovy:

White Denim - Pretty Green

Jordan Cook of Reignwolf is definitely someone who deserves
more recognition. He is amazing on guitar, not just anyone
can play guitar, drums, and sing at the same time.

Going to try to encompass some different genres of 2010s rock
for you that I've liked (EDIT: this is not in any order, I just edit
them as they come to me/I confirm their year of release).

I picked 13 albums in each year and bolded my personal

favorite. As always, YMMV. Please feel free to message me if
you have specific bands you like and I can tailor your likes and
dislikes from there.

I think you can find most of these in their entirety on the

YouTubes.

Rock Album of the 2010s: dredg - Chuckles & Mr. Squeezy*

Swans - The Seer

EDIT: thank you for all the PMs so far! I know that there was
some punk and metal thrown into the mix, but I tried to keep it
to 'rock' (as wide of a spectrum as that is). If any of you would
like recommendations for albums to check out in punk or metal,
I'm happy to read your PMs!
*= Got a few questions about this. dredg are awesome, but do
NOT start with C&MS or else you will miss out on the mastery
that is El Cielo, Catch Without Arms, Leitmotif, and even The
Pariah, The Parrot, The Delusion is pretty good! C&MS is a bit of
a black mark on their discography. Start with El Cielo (2002) or
Catch Without Arms (2005) if you want to give dredg a spin.

Ha, hopefully you like at least one thing on here -- I'm a big
believer in paying it forward, so if something serves as a
catalyst for you to go spelunking in the wide, wide
spectrum that is 'rock music', I'm happy I could help!

Just be sure to recommend stuff you like to your

friends/redditors when the time comes, too!

onlynonsense 7y !
I do know a couple of names, but the majority I haven't
listen to yet, but certainly want to try. I sometimes try
recommending stuff too, but it's hard to no come off
dickish (hey, listen to this and this and this!) or to find
the people who could be interested in the first place (i.e.
share the same music style). But, your list makes me so
curious I now want to awaken this curiosity in others!
Well done!

btw, I'm totally oblivious to the current music spectrum,

all those genres are so difficult to distinguish nowadays..
even bands themselves loose track of with genre they
belong to ....

[deleted] 7y !
I think people being naturally or genuinely
enthusiastic about something helps influence people
to give something a go.

I know it's difficult to decipher tone on the Internet at

times, but if you have a hunch that people are looking
for assistance, there's nothing wrong with offering it.
What's the worst that could happen? If they say no,
not a big deal, but if you happen to pique their
curiosity, you're doing something positive. Ideally,
they'll pay it forward, too.

EDIT: As far as the music spectrum goes, I try my best

to stay informed about genres, but at the end of the
day, new ones will pop up and evolve. Thus, my sense
is that, unless you're a journalist, you don't have to
pretend to be professorial about what genre(s) a band
belongs to as long as you have a ballpark idea.

"The Afterman" by Coheed & Cambria. It's a double album,
executed in an awesome manner. For those unfamiliar, Coheed
& Cambria's music is a story, and this album came with
awesome artwork that can be seen in the video linked. The
album has a bunch of styles drawing not only from various
points of their career, but delving into new territories. It contains
one of the most emotionally intense songs I'll ever hear, and it's
got some beautiful moments. It's got hard rocking, it's got
peaceful, it's got badass, it's got funk, it's got classic... It's got a
lot of great. The drum and bass work really shine on this album.

Selections for those not in the know:

Goodnight, Fair Lady

Key Entity Extraction IV: Evagria The Faithful

Gravity's Union

Don't let the concept scare you! If you're not into the fiction,
you can still love the real. Fully recommend listening in order,
loudly.

Josh Homme and QOTSA have a distinct sound and feel
