1.1.2 About this manual
This operator's manual is the original operator's
manual. In the following texts, it is only referred to as
the operator's manual.
This Operator's Manual is part of the machine. It must
be stored in an appropriate place and kept accessible
for drivers and operating personnel at all times.
All machine users must have read and understood this
operator's manual before operating the machine.
Please bear in mind that the CLAAS harvesting
machine will also be referred to as machine in the
chapters below.
Directional indicators
Front, rear, right and left refer to the direction of
forward travel. If necessary, a direction arrow is used
for indicating the direction of travel in figures.

COMMUNICATOR II is an ISOBUS terminal, and
conforms to ISO 11783. COMMUNICATOR II can be
used in the tractor to operate all machines that are
equipped with an ISOBUS-compatible control system
in accordance with ISO 11783.

The COMMUNICATOR II terminal program is a stand-


alone application, and is stored in the
COMMUNICATOR II memory. The terminal program
cannot be deleted.
Program functions:
• Install applications, select applications, delete
applications.
• Query memory requirements, ECU address and
ECU names.
• Assign functions of the connected machines to
programmable keys. (if available)
2 • Forward tractor speed signal to applications.

• Set date and time.
• Set language.
• Set display formats.
• Show software version.

The terminal requires a power supply. When the tractor
engine is not running, the battery may become
discharged.
– Start the tractor engine.

– Press the button.

The message window “Data being loaded” appears
under the following conditions:

• when a machine is being put into service for the


first time
• or when the application has been deleted in
COMMUNICATOR II.
The ISOBUS application of the machine that is
connected is loaded onto COMMUNICATOR II. The
loading process may take some minutes.
COMMUNICATOR II can be operated during the
loading process.

The key assignment is shown under the following

• a key assignment has already been saved in


COMMUNICATOR II for the machine that is
2 connected
• the input devices for the programmed keys are
connected.

6.3.2 Setting/clearing a favourite
If several ISOBUS devices are connected when
switching on, COMMUNICATOR II shows the
application that has been set as the favourite. If no
favourite has been set, COMMUNICATOR II shows
the last application that was displayed.
The star (1) identifies the application as a favourite.

Deletion becomes necessary:
• after updating the software of an ISOBUS device.
• if a new application is to be installed but all the
memory is in use.

6.3.5 Enabling the speed signal

Applies to:
DISCO and LINER

The speed signal is required by job management for


area calculation.
If the machine is connected to COMMUNICATOR II
(connection A), a second cable must be connected to
connection B and the corresponding tractor socket.
The speed signal must be enabled in this case.
If the machine is connected to the tractor's ISOBUS
socket, the speed signal must not be enabled.

Possible cause: The tractor's onboard computer has


not fully booted up.
– Switch off COMMUNICATOR II.
– Wait until all ISOBUS devices, and the tractor's
onboard computer in particular, have booted up.
– Switch on COMMUNICATOR II.
Possible cause: The affected operating unit is no
longer connected.

8.1.1 Removal from service and disposal
When the end of the useful life of the machine or its
components is reached and they are surrendered for
scrap, the components must be disposed of properly.
The regulations of the local authorities responsible
must be complied with.
The operating materials in the machine require special
disposal methods and must not reach the
environment. More information regarding disposal can
be obtained from the local authorities responsible, the
CLAAS specialist workshop or the CLAAS service
department.

– Products with the symbol (1) at the end of their


service life may not be disposed of with domestic
waste.

recycled as labelled.

– Recycle or reuse packaging material, do not


dispose of it with domestic waste.
– Recycle or reuse plastics that are labelled with

fluids, brake fluids and fuel as hazardous waste
and dispose of them correctly.
– Only have refrigerants disposed of by specialist
companies with qualified personnel and the
required technical equipment. Refrigerants must
never be released into the atmosphere. Have
refrigerants disposed of by a CLAAS specialist
workshop. Pay attention to country-specific
regulations.
– Comply with the regulations of the local authorities
responsible.
