GOLD RUSH- Bodie California, the best preserved ghost town in the US, is located 50 miles south of Lake Tahoe near the Nevada border. Gold was discovered here in 1859; and ultimately the Bodie mines produced more than $100,000,000 worth of gold in 4 years. As a bustling gold mining center, Bodie had the amenities of larger towns, including two banks, four volunteer fire companies, a brass band, a railroad, mechanics and miners unions, several daily newspapers, and a jail. At one point 65 saloons lined the mile long Main Street of the home of the infamous Bad man from Bodie. Murders, shootouts, barroom brawls and stagecoach holdups were regular occurrences here, and Colt Revolvers played a big part in peoples lives.

WALKER COLT Samuel H. Walker was a Texas Ranger Captain and military officer of the Republic of Texas and the United States armies. Walker served in several armed conflicts, including the American Indian War and the Mexican-American War. The Walker Colt was the largest and most powerful black powder repeating handgun ever made. It was created in the mid-1840s in collaboration between Captain Samuel Hamilton Walker (1815-47) and American firearms inventor Samuel Colt (1814-62), and builds upon the earlier Colt Patterson design. Only 1100 of these guns were initially made, which makes originals extremely difficult and expensive to obtain.

CROWN POINT INDIANA - Crown Point, Indiana, County Jail and Sheriffs Office. John Dillinger was sequestered here to await trial for the murder of an East Chicago police officer. Although authorities boasted that the jail was escape proof, on March 3, 1934 Dillinger cowed the guards with what he later claimed was a wooden gun he had whittled. He forced them to open the door to his cell, grabbed two machine guns, locked up the guards and trustees and fled in the Sheriffs car. Dillinger frequently used a Colt .38 Auto and a Colt Thompson Machine Gun, and is said to have slept with a Colt 1911 under his pillow every night.

DEADWOOD, SOUTH DAKOTA. On August 2, 1876 Wild Bill Hickok, one of the greatest gunmen in the American West, was shot and killed while playing poker at Nuttel and Manns Saloon Number 10 in Deadwood. Attributable to his having violated his cardinal rule of not sitting with his back to the door, Hickocks death is said to have given birth to the poker term Deadmans Hand-Aces and Eights.

SERGEANT YORK - Wolf River Walking Bridge, Pall Mall Tennessee, home of WW1 hero Alvin C. York (Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient). While leading a small patrol through the Argonne Forest in France, Sgt. York had the assignment to eliminate a flank of opposition machine gun fire that was halting his regiment's advancement. York found himself alone facing a German machine gun unit and he took them on with only a rifle and his Colt 1911 .45 pistol. The fight ended with over 20 German soldiers dead and another 132 soldiers surrendering along with their four officers and 35 machine guns.

NORMANDY, FRANCE. On D-Day in 1942 Private Douglas Garrett of the B/502 (the Screaming Eagles) hit the ground with his rifle disassembled and then had his breath knocked out by a German bullet that struck his reserve parachute. However, he had a Colt .45 Auto his cousin scrounged for him from the Air Force. As a German soldier rushed up on him with a knife while he was shedding his parachute harness, Private Garrett shot once. Only once.

OLD BLOOD AND GUTS - From horse cavalry to tank divisions, General George Pattons career in the US Army spanned from 1909 to 1945. Countless monuments and museums in the US and Europe stand as testaments to his legacy as one of the most dynamic and feared commanders of the Second World War. Patton usually carried his two signature ivory handled SAA .45s, but on occasion he could be seen wearing a Colt Detective Special on his hip.

STYLES OF ENGRAVING
The Colt Custom Gun Shop offers several styles of engraving, each with its own unique features. Scrollwork is adapted to fit the size, shape and contour of every firearm. Three grades of engraving are offered: Standard-basic American style, engraver not recorded; Expert-master quality scroll work, engraver signed and recorded; and Master-intricate scrollwork with precious metal inlays, signed by the engraver and recorded.
AMERICAN: Developed in the mid-19th century, this is the most popular engraving style for American firearms. ENGLISH: English engraving is more delicate than the American style, with tighter scrolls and finer shading. NIMSCHKE: Nimschke is named for the firearms engraver who helped create the American style. This design features rich scrollwork, a heavily punched dot background, fine edge curls and delicate borders. BUFFALO HORN LEVEL C
