 Students will be able to explain the concept of Plate Tectonics and the
driving forces behind it.
 Students will be able to locate major tectonic plates on a world map.
 Students will be able to identify and describe the three types of plate
boundaries: divergent, convergent, and transform.
 Students will be able to identify the geologic features associated with
each type of plate boundary.
Materials:
 World map
 PowerPoint presentation on Plate Tectonics and Types of Plate
Boundaries
 Textbook
Procedure:
Introduction (10 minutes):
Greet students and introduce the topic of Plate Tectonics.
Explain that Plate Tectonics is the theory that Earth's outer shell is divided
into several plates that move and interact with each other.
Discuss the driving forces behind Plate Tectonics, such as convection currents
in the mantle and the Earth's rotation.
Show a world map to the students and ask them to locate the major tectonic
plates.
Presentation (30 minutes):
Use PowerPoint presentation to explain each type of plate boundary: divergent,
convergent, and transform.
For each type of plate boundary, discuss the geologic features associated with
it, such as rift valleys, mid-ocean ridges, subduction zones, volcanic arcs, and
transform faults.
Use images and animations to help students visualize the movements and
interactions of tectonic plates.
Encourage students to ask questions and clarify any confusion they may have.
Reading Assignment (10 minutes):

Assign the students to read a chapter from the textbook about the different
types of plate boundaries.
Explain that this reading will help them deepen their understanding of Plate
Tectonics and prepare them for future lessons.
Conclusion (5 minutes):
Summarize the main points covered in the lesson.
Encourage students to review their notes and the reading assignment to
reinforce their understanding of the material.
Remind students to come prepared for the next class, which will cover the
geologic history of tectonic plates.
Remarks:
It is important to use visual aids and examples to help students understand
abstract concepts like Plate Tectonics.
Encouraging students to ask questions and engage in discussions can help
foster a deeper understanding of the material.
Providing reading assignments can help students review and reinforce the
material covered in class.
Reflection:
This lesson plan was designed to introduce high school students to Plate
Tectonics and the different types of plate boundaries. The use of a world map
and PowerPoint presentation helped students visualize the movements and
interactions of tectonic plates. The reading assignment provided students with
an opportunity to review and reinforce the material covered in class. During the
lesson, students were engaged and asked several questions, which helped me
gauge their understanding of the material. Overall, the lesson was successful
in achieving its objectives, and I look forward to building on this foundation in
future lessons.

Reflection:
This lesson on transform plate boundaries was successful in achieving its
objectives. The PowerPoint presentation was effective in explaining the
characteristics and geologic features of transform plate boundaries, while the
videos and images helped to further enhance student understanding of the
concept. The worksheet was challenging but not too difficult, and most
students were able to complete it successfully. The discussion on the
relationship between transform plate boundaries and earthquakes was

Learning Competency: Describe the different types of plate boundaries
(S10ES –Ia-j-36.1)
Lesson Plan: Day 5 - Review and Assessment
Objective:
By the end of the class, students will be able to
 review the material covered throughout the week,
 demonstrate their understanding of the different types of plate
boundaries, and
 identify areas that need further review.
Materials Needed:
Whiteboard and markers
Assessment materials

Procedure:
Warm-Up (5 minutes):
Start the class with a quick review of the material covered throughout the
week. Ask students to share what they remember about the different types of
plate boundaries.
Mind Map Activity (20 minutes):
Use a whiteboard to create a mind map of the different types of plate
boundaries (convergent, divergent, and transform). Ask students to come up to
the board and add details to each category. Encourage students to share any
additional information they may have learned throughout the week.
Assessment (25 minutes):
Administer the assessment to test students' understanding of the material
covered throughout the week. The assessment should include questions about
the different types of plate boundaries, their characteristics, and how they
affect the Earth's surface. Encourage students to take their time and answer all
questions to the best of their ability.
Review of Assessment (10 minutes):
Use the answer key to review the assessment results with the class. Identify
any areas that need further review or clarification. Allow students to ask
questions and provide feedback on the assessment.
Reflection (5 minutes):
Ask students to reflect on what they learned throughout the week and how
they feel about their understanding of the material. Encourage them to share
any questions or concerns they may have.
Remarks:
This lesson plan is suitable for middle school or high school students.
The assessment can be customized to fit the specific needs of the class.
The mind map activity can be modified to include additional information or to
focus on a specific aspect of plate tectonics.
Reflection:
Overall, this lesson plan was successful in achieving its objectives. The mind
map activity was an effective way to review the material covered throughout the
week, and the assessment provided a clear measure of students' understanding
of the material. Using the assessment results to identify areas that need
further review was also useful, as it allowed for targeted instruction in areas
where students may have struggled. In the future, I would consider adding
more interactive activities to the lesson plan to engage students and promote
active learning.
