ECONOMIC GLOBALIZATION While the Philippines has not yet
reached growth rates experienced
before 2020, big opportunities exist
across sectors. If companies rethink
strategies, sound economic growth
can occur in 2023.

The effects of the current crisis, both
humanitarian and economic, cannot
be underestimated. However, as the
world continues to emerge from the
pandemic, business leaders can take
advantage of these upheavals, and
shape innovation and growth—as
evidenced in previous eras—by
anticipating future disruptions and
shaping strategies accordingly. This
kind of “era thinking” is particularly
valuable in the Philippines, where
disruptions caused by the conflict in
Ukraine and international supply-chain
crises have had a clear impact.

Explanation: It is important to
recognize the implications of the
current crisis on both the humanitarian
and economic fronts. Business
executives may, capitalize on these
changes as the world recovers from
the epidemic and drive innovation and
growth—as seen in earlier periods—by
foreseeing potential disruptions and
adjusting their strategy appropriately.
In the Philippines, where disruptions
brought on by the conflict in Ukraine
and global supply-chain concerns have
had a noticeable effect, this type of
"era thinking" is especially beneficial.

economy. As of early this year, internet
users in the Philippines grew by 13.4%
to 85.1 million. This equates to an
additional 10 million plus users.

Explanation:
With the rise of mobile phones, the
Philippines has increased its
acceptance of digital payments via
mobile phones. It’s no surprise that
digital payments by merchants will
increase from 13% in 2018 to 24% in
2020, according to the 2021 edition of
the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP)
State of Digital Payments in the
Philippines.
CULTURAL GLOBALIZATION The role of culture in upholding
peace, human values, and economic
development
BY FORMER HOUSE SPEAKER JOSE C.
DE VENECIA JR.
Jan 20, 2019 08:05 AM
We note that cultural globalization is
perhaps spreading even faster than
economic globalization — and
transforming traditional societies even
more drastically. The international
“pop culture,” borne by the globalized
media, is spreading even in poor
countries still peripheral to the global
economy.

In these countries, everyday people’s

objections to globalization focus on its
cultural side effects — the way it is
transforming accustomed life ways and
hierarchical social relationships.

Explanation: The idea that culture

itself can be the main obstacle to
development is not new. Historians
often point to how Western observers
spoke pessimistically about Japan's
future prospects in the 1880s, just as
the Meiji-era samurai were poised to
join the ranks of the great powers. In
summary, institutions and culture
seem to be equally important in the
transformation of traditional society.
Together they form the rules and
values by which people live. And
history seems to suggest that changing
the rules is the quickest and easiest
way to steer a culture in a new
direction. In our time, all countries with
emerging market economies must face
the problem of adapting to the effects
of globalization in their own way. They
find that a thorough and meaningful
study of the globalization of culture is
useful for decision-making.
