By the attraction of its natural beauty, many tourists, picnic parties &
rock climbers visit every year. Satyajit Roy, famous film director came
here for shooting his famous flim “HIRAK RAJAR DESHE”. A beautiful
CHANDI TEMPLE on the top of the joychandi hill and a semaphore
(old telegraphic symbol) pillar draw the tourists.
3) SUSUNIA HILL & CHHATNA:
Location: 20 Kms (Approx) km away from Chatna station. Chatna
station is approachable by train from Kolkata and other major towns.
Chatna is 245 Kms away from Kolkata.
Main Attraction: Susunia is 1500 feet high hill of southern West
Bengal situated at the north-western part of Bankura District. It is often
believed that Raja Chandra Verma had once built his fort on this hill.
With plenty of natural beauty in the form of cascading waterfalls, plenty
of greenery and river Gandheshwari flowing down the hill, Susunia
gives out a picture perfect look and the rock faces are for the
mountaineer's joy. It is one of the rich reserves of medicinal plants.
Susunia Hill is known as archeological and fossil site. The so claimed
'oldest' rock inscription of West Bengal is located here. There is an
ancient carved monolith (Narasingha stone) standing at the point
where the spring water is coming out of another stone gargoyle or
curved projected spout.
4) BISHNUPUR
Location: 201 km from Kolkata.
Main Attraction: Bishnupur is a town and a municipality in Bankura
District in the state of West Bengal. It is famous for its terracotta
temples and the Balucheri sarees. It is famous for its renowned
architecture. Tourists visit these places and relish the fine art of
ancient times. It represents nearly all varieties of structural forms of
medieval ‘Bengali Temple’ architecture and has beautiful carvings on
their walls offering a glitter of the terra-cotta art of Bengal. The temples
like “SHYAM RAI TEMPLE” built in the massive ‘PANCHARATNA’
style is regarded as the most outstanding architecture.
Bishnupur is also famous for silk weaving and its centres developed by
“khadiudyog”. “BaluchariSarees” are famous world over in which
weavers are projecting themes of the Mahabharata and the Ramayana
on ‘Pallu’ as well as ‘borders.
5) JOYRAMBATI & KAMARPUKUR
Location: 45 Kms (Approx) from Bishnupur station.
Main Attraction: Joyrambati is a small and beautifully designed
hamlet located in Bankura District of West Bengal. The village falls in
the jurisdiction of Kotulpur police station in the Bishnupur sub-division
in Bankura district. Joyrambati is about 5 Kms to the west of
Kamarpukur, the sacred place where ‘Lord Ramakrishna’ was born in
1839.
This place is one of the most famous pilgrimage tourist spots in West
Bengal and popular not only among the Bengali people but also
among the overseas tourists. Divine ‘Mother Sarada Devi’ was born in
this village called Joyrambati of Bankura District in 1853.The natural
beauty of Joyrambati is splendid. The place is dotted with green
pastures, trees, bushes and rural landscapes.
6) AYODHYA HILLS:
Location: 40 km via sirkabad from Purulia Station.
Main Attraction: Purulia offers tourists not just places of religious and
cultural interest, but also sites wherein one can have fun and frolic. To
cater to the needs of explorers and adventure lovers, the place
extends tourist a perfect destination to practice mountaineering and
rock climbing-Ayodhya Hill. Around 700 m high, the hill is a perfect
blend of pristine nature and rich mythological interests. The place is
also famous for its fresh water springs and stream. It has got beautiful
natural surroundings with Gargaburu hills (2200 feet) and
Mathaburuhills (2126 feet).There are two picturesque falls by the side
of hill track.
7) MUKUTMANIPUR :
Location: 55 kilometers from Bankura Railway Station.
Main Attraction: Mukutmanipur literally is a pearl in the crown of the
entire Bankura District, especially south Bankura. This very place has
rose to prominence due to its serene beauty. One of the biggest
earthen dams in Asia, it stretches approximately up to 11 km. It is
famous for confluence of Cossey and Kumari rivers. It is full of natural
surroundings and has the largest dam of Bankura District. There is
vast natural forest near dam.
The place is replete with attractive picnic spots. The place has been
aptly described as nestling on the wooded damdam-sites
sites of the two rivers
Kangsabati andKumari. A couple of spots as Musafirana, Pareshnath
hillock are worth mentioning. The newly developed Musafirana is a
fantastic viewpoint of the entire dam which is the ambit of tourist
attraction.
8) CHANDIL DAM
Location: 4 Kms from Chandil Station.
Main Attraction: The charm of chandil dam, standing on the
Subharnarekha River is its scenic beauty. This dam is one of the most
visited places of Jharkhand. The museum located close to the Chandil
dam has scripts written on rocks, which are 2000 years old. The multi-
