CONFESSION
And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the
cankerworm, and the caterpillar, and the palmerworm, my great army
which I sent among you.” Joel 2 v 25
EXHORTATION
The sons of the prophets invited the PRESENCE OF GOD, through THE
PROPHET. No matter what you want to do, no matter your intentions, no
matter your skills and talents, you need the Holy Spirit for cover, you need what
I call prophetic cover, and you need THE GRACE OF YOUR PROPHETIC
PARENTS to be upon you. You need to put what you have (those lofty plans)
under an apostolic prophetic watch, so that God can make it work. No matter
your academic laurel, no matter your skills and talents, if God doesn’t breathe
on it, it won’t work; it won’t even see the light of day. “The Spirit of God hath
made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life” Job 33 v 4.
“And he said unto him, if thy presence go not with me, carry us not up
hence” Exo. 33 v 15. The attitude of Moses as illustrated should be our
attitude; he desperately demanded for God’s presence because he knew the
importance. In every situation, we also must consciously desire and ask for THE
PRESENCE OF GOD to be with us.
Beloved, the Lord wants me to tell you that no matter how gifted you are, you
need THE PRESENCE OF GOD, because there will be challenges you have to
contend with in the course of whatever project or enterprise you embark on.
Remember this:
It is only God that gives results for our effort and makes it to endure.
The strength of the axe is in the hands of the man holding it. Everything
in life has its season. But Jesus is the seasoning for all situations.
Revelations from text:
(1) The sons of the prophet desired to enlarge their habitation just like
we all want to enlarge our coast in life.
(2) They had the strength to cut down beams and strength plus
creativity to build. We are all gifted by God with one gift or more to assist us
to make headway in life.
(3) But the sons of the prophet knew that talents and gifts were not
enough. They recognized the grace of the father (Gods prophet) but today
this fact is lost to this generation of highly impatient youths they
requested for the father’s blessings as well as the father’s presence.
(4) Eventually the axe head was lost! Very often in the hands of people the
axe head will get lost.
(5) But it would appear as if the sons of the prophet had a premonition of the
incident and were prepared for the missing axe head situation that confronted
them. They simply called on the grace of the father. The question is; did your
father’s presence go with you on that project? Did you have his blessing?
Can you boldly request or make a demand on the grace of the father?
(6) The prophet of God came to the rescue. He asked one question.
Where did the axe head fall? You must recognize the point at which you
lost your cutting-edge. Was it when you became careless in your way of
living? Was it when you fell into sin?
(7) The man of God cut a stick and threw it at the point where the axe head
fell. The iron floated whilst the stick sank into the river! Imagine if he told the
young men to dive into the river and begin to search! Where the strength of
a child fails; the grace of the father will come to the rescue.
CAUSES OF LOSS OF AXE-HEAD
1. Sin – Isaiah 30 v 1
“Woe to the rebellious children, saith the LORD, that take counsel, but
not of me; and that cover with a covering, but not of my spirit, that they
may add sin to sin”
5. Lack of Wisdom
Eccl. 9 v 16 – 18 “Then said I, Wisdom is better than strength:
nevertheless, the poor man’s wisdom is despised, and his words are not
heard.
v.17 The words of wise men are heard in quiet more than the cry of him
that ruleth among fools.
v.18 Wisdom is better than weapons of war: but one sinner destroyeth
much good.”
6. Insufficient knowledge
7. Demoting dreams
8. Distractions – 1 Cor. 7 v 15 “But if the unbelieving depart, let him
depart. A brother or a sister is not under bondage in such cases:
but God hath called us to peace.”
9. Wrong habits & Character deficiencies – 1 Cor. 5 v 6 “Your glorying is
not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole
lump?
10. Refusal to follow godly principles.
11. Disobedience to godly instructions and authority.
12. Watch out in your unguarded hour, know how to set boundaries around
you, so that you don’t lose your steam and brand.
13. Through foundational afflictions.
IMPLICATION OF LOST AXE HEAD
1. Identify where you lost it, the occasion and circumstances that led to the
loss
“Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty
things, which thou knowest not” Jer. 33 v 3
1. “Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though
your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though
they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.”
v.19 “If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land:
v.20 But if ye refuse and rebel, ye shall be devoured with the sword: for
the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.”
3. Solicit for the grace of the father.
“But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.” – Gen. 6 v 8
“And he restored the chief butler unto his butlership again; and he gave
the cup into Pharaoh’s hand” Gen. 40 v 21
6. Restitution
“And he restored the chief butler unto his butlership again; and he gave
the cup into Pharaoh’s hand” Exo. 22 v 1
v.2 “O my God, I trust in thee: let me not be ashamed, let not mine
enemies triumph over me.
Psalm 89 v 1 “I will sing of the mercies of the LORD for ever: with my
mouth will I make known thy faithfulness to all generations.”
Songs:
