Lightning Protection – System 1000
Using internal control circuits, the ESE generates controlled magnitude and
frequency pulses at the tip of the terminal during high static fields prior to a lightning
discharge. This enables the creation of an upward leader from the terminal that
propagates toward the downward leader coming from the thundercloud.

Lightning Protection ESEAT Features & Models
The early streamer emission air terminals (ESEAT) design requirements, protection
level calculations, and protection radius are obtained from the 2011 edition NF C 17-
102 standard
Available in models to suit
specific site requirements:
Air Terminal Structure triggering advance of 25 m/s
1. Strike tip triggering advance of 40 m/s
2. Insulator ring triggering advance of 60 m/s
3. High voltage control section

Coupler
6. Saves time and improves safety for maintenance personal by providing a visual inspection
7. Robust and wind resistant construct adds durability in the field (100 kA tested and IP 68 rated)
Remote Tester
(SIREMOTETESTER)
Product Features and Benefits
The ESEAT Remote Tester eliminates the need for on-site manual testing
Building owners can now save on maintenance costs (ranging from $500-$2000/yr)
Maintenance personnel can more safely inspect and test the status of the ESEAT
Comprised of an IP68 enclosure and stainless steel 316 for superior corrosion
resistance, even in high salinity, high humidity, and coastal environments
Has powerful LED lights visible up to 100 meters or 328 feet away

Lightning Protection – System Performance Validation
An unprecedented field-validation study of the Collection Volume Method (CVM) for lightning
protection system provides new data on the importance of air terminal placement and the
validity of the CVM’s claimed interception efficiency levels

Collection Volume Method
Collection volumes are
calculated for:
• The LPS terminals
• Competing features
(undesirable potential
strike points)
To be a sound design,
the Collection Volumes
of the LPS terminals
need to “cover over”
those of the competing
features

ERICO System 3000 – Dynasphere air terminal
In the ERICO S3000, we apply the Collection Volume Method with the DYNASPHERE
Air Terminal
How does it
works ?
38
CONFIDENTIAL – FOR INTERNAL USE ONLY
Dynasphere Air Terminal
Static Thunderstorm Phase
• Charge slowly builds up on the
cloud, and thus the field is slowly
increasing (relatively static)
• Minimises Corona
• Avoids the creation of a space
charge above the terminal
39
CONFIDENTIAL – FOR INTERNAL USE ONLY
Dynasphere Air Terminal
Dynamic Thunderstorm Phase
• Downward leader progresses
• Electric field increases very rapidly
(compared with slow increase of the
static phase)
• Voltage builds up on the dome

Controlled Triggering Streamer
Phase
• Triggering arc causes upward
intercepting leader
• Need to ensure that streamers are
not launched until the electric field
conditions are an optimum for
conversion to a stable, propagating
upward leader
• The terminal trigger time is
determined by the Spark Gap size,
the Capacitance of dome, and the
Variable Impedance (product design)
• Spark Gap size - 3 different spark
gaps sizes (5, 4 & 3 mm) to suit
different building heights
