My name is Kay-lan Ndahambelela Shekuza, and I am writing to express my strong interest in applying

for the civil engineering bursary offered by your company. I am currently enrolled at Stellenbosch
University as a second-year student in 2024, pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering. I have found the
course to be interesting, rewarding, and challenging, but unfortunately, tuition fees have posed a
financial obstacle.

During my first year, I was funded by Nsfaf and my parents. However, Nsfaf does not cover my full tuition
fee, creating a financial burden for my parents. As the eldest child, their goal is to support me in paying
for my tuition fees so that I can, in turn, assist with the education of my younger siblings.

My aspiration is to work diligently, giving my utmost attention to completing this course with the best
possible results. I plan on specializing in Geotechnical Engineering as it is a field with a wide range of
opportunities, where I can work from project to project without having trouble with figuring out.

The financial strain is made worse by the fact that I am not the only child; I have three siblings, all
attending school. The additional cost of my tuition fees has significantly tightened my parents' financial
situation. This bursary would greatly alleviate this burden, allowing my parents to concentrate more on
the education of my younger siblings.

Despite the challenges reflected in my recent results, I want to emphasize my capability to achieve better
outcomes. My first year was a period of adjustment to the course, and I learned valuable lessons about
perseverance and resilience. This is evident in my first-semester module, where I faced initial setbacks
but remained steadfast, consistently scoring at 50. While the marks may not fully capture the effort
invested, I assure you that I gave my all during the second exam.

Entering this university was no easy feat, requiring dedication to meet the necessary grade
requirements. I am now a committed student at this institution, and I ask for your trust in my ability to
overcome challenges and succeed in my degree. I acknowledge concerns that may arise due to two
failed modules, and I understand your doubt. However, I urge you to consider that this course is
challenging, and the journey is about continuous improvement. My plan is to learn and grow, striving for
better academic performance.

Financial constraints weigh heavily on both my parents and me. While some may argue that such
challenges serve as motivation, it is also a significant disadvantage, placing me in a tight situation where I
am hesitant to ask for money to hire a tutor due to the already substantial fees. A bursary from your
esteemed institution would not only alleviate my financial burdens but also enable me to focus on my
studies without constant worry. I am confident that with your support, I can not only achieve my
academic goals but also contribute meaningfully to the industry upon graduation.

Enclosed with this letter, you will find my CV, academic transcripts, and any other relevant documents. I
would welcome the opportunity to discuss my application further in an interview. All I am asking is for
your kind consideration of my application. I would truly appreciate the opportunity to be supported by
your company. Thank you for considering my application. I am eager to contribute to the field of civil
engineering, and I believe that with your support, I can make a positive impact.
