Logging into KPU PebblePad
You can create an account at https://app.pebblepad.ca/login/kpu - log in with Banner Student number and password. This will take
you to the KPU OneLogin page – enter your information and click the Sign In button.
3
PebblePad Homepage
Once logged in you will see your HomePage. There are several sections on this page for you to begin working in PebblePad.
4
NAVIGATING THROUGH PEBBLEPAD (top menu)
Before you can begin to create your ePortfolio and other assets, you need to know how to navigate the system. It is quite intuitive.
The top banner looks like the image below and each icon has a certain function. The table shows what the icons do.
5
NAVIGATING THROUGH PEBBLEPAD (Burger menu)
The Burger Menu icon can be clicked in the upper left corner of the top menu for instant access to your Creative tools. This
is where you will create new portfolios, pages, blogs, collections. The image below shows the Burger menu open, and the
Get Creative tab (LEFT SIDE follow orange arrow) selected to give you a choice to Create a Portfolio, Page, Collection. You
can also create from the Homepage (close burger) by clicking on the link in the Get Creative section (RIGHT SIDE follow blue arrow).
6
PEBBLEPAD STRUCTURE FOR BSN-AE
This image visually displays how your PebblePad portfolio will be organized in this program. You will work on setting up the Primary
ePortfolio, Profile Page, Certificate Page, Semester 1 Sub ePortfolio with three course Pages, and Journal Blog for NRSG 3520.

CREATING YOUR PRIMARY EPORTFOLIO
Click on Create a Portfolio in the Burger menu or from your Homepage. Once you do this, you will be taken to a screen like below.
Everything you upload or create in your space is called an Asset and will be visible in your Asset “store”. It is a good idea to name all
of your Assets concisely, wisely and meaningfully so you know what they are at a glance (you will store many over time). For
instance, save this first portfolio as “My Primary Portfolio” (you will be prompted to name it when you click the Save button).
8
PRIMARY EPORTFOLIO PROFILE BANNER
The first page of your Primary ePortfolio will be your Profile page. Customize this Profile page by first setting up the Banner. To truly
personalize this main entry page to your ePortfolio, find or snap a photograph of something or somewhere that is meaningful to you
and change the default banner image to your own image. Then, change the title of your banner to “My Primary ePortfolio” and your
secondary header to your name (do this latter part on ALL of your subsequent pages as well – always include your name).
9
PRIMARY EPORTFOLIO PROFILE FILE NAME
You need to label your Profile page as “Introduction” in the top tab of the
page. Click on the little gear in the tab to access the edit screen – change
the name to Introduction then click on the Confirm button.
Always keep asset (pages, etc.) names short and succinct yet use proper
English (not abbreviations) to ensure the tabs are meaningful and easy to
navigate as your instructor moves from asset to asset.
10
PRIMARY EPORTFOLIO PROFILE QUICK SNAPSHOT
The first asset to add to your Profile page is a Quick Snapshot of who you are. Write 1 – 2 paragraphs to introduce yourself. Include
what you did your first degree in and where, what field you work on, and so on. Also include a photo of yourself and drag it to align
beside the textbox with your Snapshot overview. (see next page for more details) Your work should look something like mine below.
11
ADDING TEXT TO A PAGE
To add your Quick Snapshot paragraphs to your page, click on the Navy blue ADD CONTENT button above your banner. A visual
menu will appear that provides several options for you to choose from. This is where you will choose Text to add your paragraphs.
Click on the Text icon and place your Quick Snapshot paragraphs right below your banner. Give it a heading called Quick Snapshot
(as in the image on the previous page). The interface gives you a Word like text editor ribbon along the top as you work with your
text. Be sure to save your work often as you work on your portfolio (the system will remind you).
12
FORMATTING TEXT ON A PAGE
Whenever you enter text into an Asset you can add formatting or create links via the formatting toolbar. To access the toolbar
highlight the text you wish to format or link from. The toolbar will then appear to allow you to format the text or add links. It will
also appear when you first start typing in the textbox that appears after you first selected the Text icon. You can change the size of
the textbox easily by grasping the blue dotted section in the lower right corner of the textbox when in edit mode. As well, you can
choose to make it 1 or 2 columns format by clicking the Properties button in the upper right hand corner of your page.
13
ADDING IMAGES TO A PAGE
Once you have added your Quick Snapshot to your Profile page, add a photo of yourself
(preferably a headshot). Click on the Add Content navy button once more but this time
select and grasp the Image icon and drag it down beside your text. You will see a box
appear to help you to upload your image to the asset store for selection or select an
image already stored in your asset store.
1. Add Image screen comes up after you click on Add Content button and select Image icon
14
PROFILE PAGE CONTENT AND QUOTE
To finish up your Profile page in your Primary ePortfolio, add one or two more items below your Quick Snapshot and Photo.
This can be anything you wish to share such as awards, recognition, showcasing a hobby or an ideal or particular viewpoint.
As well, add a quote that inspires you somewhere on your Profile page using the Add Content – Quote icon.
15
SUMMARY OF PROFILE PAGE CONTENT
When you are finished your Profile Introduction page in your Primary ePortfolio, you should have the following on it:
2. Banner main title is named “My Primary ePortfolio” with your name as subtitle.
3. Profile Page is named Introduction which is visible in top tab for page.
7. A favorite quote of yours (be sure to cite the author) using the Add Quote tool.
16
ADD PRACTICE CERTIFICATE PAGE
You need to add a second page to your
Primary ePortfolio to showcase your practice
related certificates such as CPR, First Aid for
your practice instructors for all seven
semesters to easily see.
17
CUSTOMIZING CERTIFICATE PAGE BANNER
First click on the navy large “Add Content” button on your new page and select “Banner” to add one to your blank page. As you did
before, set up your certificate banner on this page. You can use a photograph you took yourself or choose one of the available ones
in PebblePad for this page (only your main Primary page Profile (Introduction) banner has to be original for your 3500 assignment).
In the image below I have selected the available PebblePad blood pressure banner.
Change the main title of this page to “My Practice Certificates” and the subtitle to your full name (always do this with the subtitle).
18
NAME YOUR CERTIFICATE PAGE
Follow the same process you used to change your Profile Page to “Introduction” to change the name of this Page to “Certificates”.
Click the blue cog beside the current words “New Page” and type in “Certificates” and confirm.
19
ADDING IMAGES TO CERTIFICATE PAGE
Once you have your certificates
handy, all you need to do is click
on the navy large “Add Content”
button and add a succession of
images.
20
SAMPLE CERTIFICATE PAGE DISPLAY
Your certificate page should look something like this – make sure the quality of your images is high so your practice faculty can easily
read them. As you earn more certificates or renew ones that expire, add them to this page.
21
ADD A SEMESTER 1 SUB-PORTFOLIO
The easiest way to add clustered space for each semester is to create a separate Portfolio for each of them that is added as an asset
to your Primary ePortfolio. To do this, follow the same process you used to create your initial portfolio and save this one as
“Semester 1” (refer back to page 7). Name the front page of this sub portfolio as “Semester 1 ePortfolio” with your name as
subtitle, rename this first page as “Overview” in the top tabs and add an introduction to the courses within it and a link to your
Certificate page. Only include the courses you are enrolled in. For this year, add 3520, 3540, 3640 if you are taking them.
You can view this Sample Semester 1 entry page here: https://app.pebblepad.ca/spa/#/public/4wm9qZZfm9Zsf4MR3bpW35tcqc
22
ADDING LINK TO CERTIFICATE PAGE (AN ASSET)
It is easy to add a link within your text to a website, an asset (like your certificate page), a resource or an email address. Simply
highlight the text you wish to make into a link and click on the wee “Link” icon in the text editor toolbar, then select the “An asset”
block which will take you to your asset store. Once there, choose your Certificate page and save.
23
ADDING SEMESTER PAGES TO SUB PORTFOLIO
Now add a page for each of the courses that will require PebblePad use – Nursing 3520, 3540 and 3640. Add and customize the
banner for each using the course Name as the banner title and your name as the subtitle. Then rename the page in the top tab
concisely, e.g. NRSG 3520, etc. Once you are done this part you are finished setting up the main structure for your Semester 1 work.
24
ADDING A JOURNAL BLOG
The final asset to add to your initial ePortfolio
is a Blog that will be used as your Nursing
3520 Journal.
25
CUSTOMIZE YOUR JOURNAL BLOG
Name this first blog “My Nursing 3520 Journal” as the banner title and your name as the subtitle and add “This is my Journal for
Nursing 3520” in the description block field that pops up beneath the banner. That is all you need to do in the blog for now. You will
create posts in Nursing 3520.
26
ADD JOURNAL BLOG TO SEMESTER SUB PORTFOLIO
Now you need to add this Journal to your Semester 1 Sub Portfolio, so go back to your Semester 1 Portfolio (click the Burger Menu
then Assets and find and open it). Click on the wee + tab at the top and select “Add an existing asset” and choose the blog.
27
SELECTING BLOG TO ADD TO PORTFOLIO
If you do not see your blog listed in the selection panel (it shows your last most recent six assets) type in the name of the file you
saved it as in the search field. Once you see your blog in the list, click on it and the system will add it to your sub portfolio.
28
ASSET DISPLAY IN SUB PORTFOLIO
You may notice that when in editing mode, your added assets have unique icons and colours depending on what they are. In your
Semester 1 sub Portfolio, you have a pink Pa or Page tab for your Overview and each course Page. Your blog has a green B tab.
29
REORDER ASSET WITHIN PORTFOLIO
It is a good idea to move your Nursing 3520 Journal Blog to rest beside your NRSG 3520 tab within your Semester 1 Sub Portfolio. To
do this, go to your blog and click on the “Properties” tab in the right upper corner. Then click on the navy blue “Reorder Page”
button. Then click the button and choose “after NRSG 3520” then click “Confirm Move” button.
30
ADD SEMESTER SUB PORTFOLIO TO PRIMARY PORTFOLIO
The final step you need to take in this workspace construction is to add your Semester sub Portfolio to your Primary ePortfolio as an
asset which is the exact same process you used to add the blog to your sub portfolio. Go to your Primary ePortfolio by clicking
Burger Menu then Assets. Once there, click on the wee + tab at the top, but this time choose “Add an existing Portfolio”, then find
your semester 1 sub portfolio and select it. Your Semester 1 portfolio will now be fully accessible from your Primary ePortfolio. If you
click on the “Content” button in the upper left of your Primary ePortfolio you will see all of the pages, etc. that you created listed.
31
ADDING SUBSEQUENT SEMESTER WORK
Click on the Preview Button in the upper left of your Primary ePortfolio to see how easily your instructor can now navigate your
work. Each semester (most likely just semesters 2, 4, 5 and 6), repeat the process of creating a semester sub Portfolio, adding a page
for each course, a blog for any course requiring a journal (if told to), etc. then add the sub Portfolio to your Primary ePortfolio.
As you do that, your Primary ePortfolio will have Semester 2 – Semester 4 – Semester 5 – Semester 6 tabs added to the top bar
which makes navigation very easy and user-friendly for your instructors. They will also be able to access your certificate page easily.
32
SHARING YOUR PRIMARY EPORTFOLIO WITH YOUR INSTRUCTORS
The last step you need to take is to share your work with your instructor. For Nursing 3500 (as well as 3520, 3540, 3640) in 2022, you
will share it with June Kaminski – [email protected]
To do this go to your Introduction page of your Primary ePortfolio and click on the “I want to” button in the upper right corner then
click on the “Share” tab – then select “With People” choice. Type in the name of the instructor as a PebblePad user, select then
complete the fields as shown in the images on this page and next.
