LOGIN PAGE:

1. To access to Acumen Web User Interface (UI) for device (gateway) and asset (generators, transfer
switches etc.) configuration, an RNDIS cable (USB) must be connected from the user’s laptop to
the Acumen device.
2. To access the UI, type the default IP address in a web browser address bar:
https://169.254.0.1:5000/.
3. The default username is ‘admin’. The first-time password is the device serial number. You will be
prompted to update the default password in a later step.
4. The device serial number can be taken from the backside of the device or by clicking on “Get
Electronic Serial Number” button in the UI, it will open a pop-up window with device serial
number; enter the serial number in the password field and hit the login button.

5. The user will get an optional field to select the preferred language on the header of the
Acumen UI as shownin the image below. By default, the Acumen UI language is English. The
user will be able to select the preferred language any time.

A072L544 (Issue 2) 1 Copyright © 2022 Cummins Inc.

For first login, the user must update the user configuration fields. Enter in the proper
information for the mandatory fields like first name, last name, password and confirm
password. Email and Mobile number fields are optional fields.

The password set by user should adhere to the note added below. The password should
be kept safe. If it is lost, then it will need to be reset through Power Command Cloud; a
flow diagram for reset password is shown below in the Reset Password section. Once user
configuration is updated, the updated password will be required to login to the device.

Once the above settings are completed, the user will be navigated to the application type
selection page of the Acumen UI.

Note:
• Setting the password is mandatory for first time login only. Once it is set by the
user, for subsequent logins, the user will be navigated directly to the homepage
after entering the username and password.
• After 3 unsuccessful attempts, the screen will be locked for 2 minutes.

CHANGE PASSWORD

The Acumen UI provides an option to change the existing password.

• When a user changes the existing password, the last two old passwords must not be used.
• While changing a password with “Change password”, if a user inputs an incorrect or old
password, this will also be considered an unsuccessful login attempt

RESET PASSWORD

If a user forgets the password, the user can reset the existing one to the default password (i.e.
device serial number) from the PowerCommand Cloud by following the steps below as shown in
the flow diagram.

A072L544 (Issue 2) 3 Copyright © 2022 Cummins Inc.

• Note that the Acumen gateway must have Internet connectivity and be connected to
PowerCommand Cloud for the password reset command to be received.
• Once a user enters the default password, the user will get an option to enter a new password.
Please note, the user must not use the last two old passwords as those will be stored in the
device for validation. If an old password is used, the user will get a related message pop-up.
• The Acumen Web UI will be locked for 2 minutes after 3 unsuccessful login attempts. If users
want to reset the Acumen password, they must initiate that action from the PowerCommand
Cloud portal. However, the default password login on the Acumen UI will be validated only after
waiting for two minutes until the UI lock has expired.
• Reset Password will only change the existing password to the default device serial number. The
rest of the information programmed into the Acumen device will be retained.

RESTORE TO FACTORY SETTINGS

As its name implies, all existing settings like user configuration, internet media settings, asset
configuration, log settings, GPS settings, etc., are erased from the device and reverted to default
settings. In PowerCommand Cloud, the device's status will change from registered to unknown;
claimed to unclaimed (to a site in PowerCommand Cloud); the device will be treated as a fresh
device from the factory. This process takes around 10 minutes to complete.

Copyright © 2022 Cummins Inc. 4 A072L544 (Issue 2)

• If a user forgets the password and the device is not online on PowerCommand Cloud to send
thepassword reset command, then the user can use the login page’s Restore to Factory
Settings option. This allows the user to log back in as a default user with login username as
‘admin’ and password as device IMEI. Please note, all the old device settings will be erased
and updated again to the default settings.
• This feature is visible and accessible only when locally connected to the Acumen device
over a RNDIS (USB) cable and the UI is accessed with IP 169.254.0.1:5000. After clicking on
the Restore to Factory Settings button, you will get the following confirmation message.

For first time login, the Restore to Factory Settings option will be disabled as shown in the image
below.

A072L544 (Issue 2) 5 Copyright © 2022 Cummins Inc.

On a successful restore to the factory settings, a success message will be displayed, and the system
will reboot and navigate the user to the Login page. User can check the event log for the restore to
factory successful event.
If the user has claimed the gateway to a site in PowerCommand Cloud, it will be removed from the
site the next time it re-establishes cloud connectivity.

Note:
• During factory reset, the device must have a continuous power supply during this process.
• The old log files that are not uploaded to the cloud due to the absence of internet media,
cloud connectivity, or disabled log settings will be retained in the device after a factory
reset.

APPLICATION TYPE

Once the user enters a valid username and password, they are directed to the ‘Select Application
Type’ screen. The ‘Select Application Type’ field must be selected during the first-time setup of the
device. The application type must can be selected. Options are Industrial Engine or Power
Generation. For device use with power generation equipment, ‘Power Generation’ must be
selected.

Copyright © 2022 Cummins Inc. 6 A072L544 (Issue 2)

The popup message asks for confirmation regarding the application type. If the user clicks OK, the
selection will be successfully saved.

Note: Application type selection is a one-time activity performed for the first-time during
device setup. Going forward with subsequent logins, the user will be directed to the device
dashboard automatically. If Application Type was incorrectly configured, you must factory
reset the Acumen device and begin the configuration process again.

MODBUS SETTINGS
Modbus is a serial communication protocol that communicates with assets like Generator Sets,
ATS and Aux control models. Acumen gateway has one RS-485 channel that should be configured
as per the following options for successful communication between the asset and gateway:
Acumen supports various configuration options as pointed out below. Refer to Modbus Protocol
Specifications from http://www.modbus.org/ for more details.
Click Edit to begin.

1. Baud Rate:
Specifies the number of bits to be transmitted per second
 2400 bps
 4800 bps
 9600 bps
 19200 bps (Default)
 38400 bps

A072L544 (Issue 2) 25 Copyright © 2022 Cummins Inc.

2. Parity:
Parity is a method of detecting errors in transmission. When parity is used with a serialport,
an extra data bit is sent with each data character, arranged so that the number of ‘1’ bits in
character including parity bit is always Odd or always Even. ‘None’ parity is the default
selection. Acumen uses 11-bit pattern for data formatting.
 None
 Odd
 Even

3. Stop Bits:
Stop bits are sent at the end of every character to allow receiving signal hardware to detect
the end of a character. Select 1 or 2 stop bits to suit parity selection.

4. Data Bits:
Considering the bit pattern of Modbus parameters in Cummins controls, data bits are
defaulted to 8 and cannot be changed.

5. Timeout:
It is the duration for which Acumen waits before sending another request. Default setting
is 500 msec and can be configured to suit performance of other connected devices in
network.

The below image shows the Modbus setting of the NA variant Acumen gateway for reference.

Copyright © 2022 Cummins Inc. 26 A072L544 (Issue 2)

Note: The above Modbus attribute configuration in gateway must match with the asset
Modbus configuration. Seamless communication will not be possible if there is any mismatch.

• Enter the ‘Baud’, ‘Parity’, ‘Stop Bits’ as per asset Modbus configuration as shown in
above images.
• ‘Data Bits’ is always ‘8’ and a non-editable field.
• The default timeout is set as 500 msec. If the baud rate is set as 2400, set the timeout field
550 msec or higher.
• Click on ‘Save’ once correct configuration options are entered.
• Successful message will pop up in the application as depicted in the image.

• If the user forgets to save the Modbus settings or any change, a Cancel Confirmation
Message will pop up to confirm it.

unsupported/third party Generator set controls.

All required fields must be filled in to complete device configuration. Field details are
provided below.

Copyright © 2022 Cummins Inc. 30 A072L544 (Issue 2)

Control Model: All supported Genset controls are listed in the dropdown menu.

• All new controls (PCC1301, PCC1302, PS0500, PCC2300, and PCC3300) communicate
directly to the Acumen over Modbus.
• Legacy controls (PCC2100, PCC3100, PCC3200, PCC3201 and CCM-G) all communicate
to a Modlon Gateway (ProtoNode LonGateway), which then communicates to the Genset
controls over Lonworks. Modlon information (Modlon Template and Index) must be filled in
to complete the setup.

Modbus Address: The Modbus address entered MUST match the Modbus address from the
Genset control to communicate. For legacy controls, the Modbus address represents the
address for the ModLon or ProtoNode Gateway. Modbus addresses have unique addresses
per device/slave. User must not enter the same Modbus address for two connected assets
with the Acumen gateway. Modbus details must be matched from the asset Modbus setup
section (mostly displayed in HMI).

Data Template: Data template for the selected control model will be displayed in the
dropdown menu automatically. The user must select the data template as per the control
model to be configured so that predefined parameters can be pulled from the Genset
properly. Currently, only Master Data Template is available for selection. There will be a future
feature addition to allow the user to customize the Modbus registers that are read from the
controller.

ATS WIZARD
Acumen has preconfigured register maps of all Cummins ATS controls. If your ATS control is
not in the list, it is not supported.

Note: Acumen system does not support configuring Modbus register maps for
unsupported/third party ATS controls.

Enter all required details marked with asterisk. Details regarding Modlon Template and Modlon
Index are also required. Enter these details based on the configuration of the Modlon gateway.

For ATS controls, the Modbus Address is the address for Modlon.

Control Model: All supported ATS controls are listed in the dropdown menu. All communicate to
a Modlon Gateway, which then communicates to the ATS controls over Lonworks. Modlon
information (Modlon Template and Index) must be filled in to complete the setup.

Modbus Address: The Modbus address entered MUST match the Modbus address for the Modlon
Gateway.

Data Template: Data template 1, 2 & 4 will be displayed in the dropdown menu automatically. The
user must select the data template so that preconfigured parameters can be polled from the Genset
properly.
