LESSON PLAN IN ENGLISH 7

I. Learning objectives

At the end of the lesson, the Grade 7 students are expected to:

b. Identify the features of Academic writing
c. Foster teamwork through a group activities

A. Activity
Four Pics One Word

➢ The teacher will present a picture on the television and students need to identify what is
the picture all about.
Academic Writing

B. Analysis
➢ The teacher will ask the learners the following process questions:

C. Abstraction
➢ The teacher will present the power point presentation on the television and discuss the lesson.

Academic writing

-It uses words which are formal, standard and impersonal. Persuasive and informative essays
and research papers are examples of this.
-Is a formal style of writing, it’s general purpose is to present information in order to display a
clear understanding of a particular subject.

Features of Academic Writing:

1. Complexity- Written language is relatively more complex than spoken language. Written
language has longer words.
2. Formality – academic writing is relatively formal. In an essay you should avoid
colloquial words and expression.
3. Precision- in an academic writing facts and figures are given precisely.
4. Objectivity – written language is in general objective rather than personal. It therefore has
fewer words that refer to the writer or reader .
5. Accuracy – the writer uses vocabulary words with accurate meaning.
6. Responsibility – the writer must be responsible for and must be able to provide evidence
and justifications for any claims you make in writing.

D. Application
➢ The teacher will group them into five (5). Each group will work as a team to answer the
following question.

1) Features of Academic writing where in the writer must be responsible for and must be able to
provide evidence and justifications for any claims you make in writing.
- Responsibility.
2) Features of Academic writing that is relatively formal. Where in you should avoid colloquial
words and expression.
- Formality
3) Features of Academic writing that facts and figures are given precisely.
- Precision.
4) The main emphasis should be on the information that you want to give to the reader and the
arguments you want to make.
- Objectivity.
5) It is where the writer uses vocabulary words with accurate meaning.
- Accuracy.
6) It is also used for publications like school papers, books, essays, research paper or academic
journal that are used by teacher and researchers or presented at conferences.
- Academic writing.
