Macbeth is a well known warrior/soldier who fought proudly for his country and was the one
who killed the enemy and claimed victory for his kingdom. In doing so the captain discusses
with the king in this scene how Macbeth is a noble knight and they describe his
characteristics.
-The introduction must specify the text and playright and the act and scene , “the play
Macbeth by William Shakespeare follows the psychological challenges faced by Macbeth,
an ambitious contender for the throne of Scotland.” In act one scene two Shakespeare
charecterisis Macbeth as a brave, confident but ruthless warrior through interactions by his
comrades.
-Must have a thesis (telling me about all three characteristics that will be highlighted)
The captain mentions that Macbeth is Brave “For brave Macbeth—well he deserves that
name— Disdaining fortune, with his brandished steel.” The line refers to him being ready to
kill, it shows symbolism as they explain in detail how he's ready for anything. In this quote
we can see clearly Macbeth is called brave in the start itself, but as we read ahead they
mention that Macbeth bravely chopped his way through to the enemy and killed the enemy
and stuck his head on the castle wall, this proves he is brave and it takes guts to be able to
fight through a crowd of your enemies knowing you can die at any point. Macbeth is also
described as Confident, “Yes, as sparrows, eagles, or the hare the lion. If I say sooth.”
When we read this we can understand what the captain is trying to say, that they were not
at all scared of the new challenge that it scared them as much as a rabbit would scare a
lion. So in this case the rabbits were the enemies and Macbeth was the lion. This quote
involved a metaphor as they are comparing the situation between the animals with Macbeth
and his prey (enemies). One more characteristic that is mentioned is that he is Ruthless,
“Which ne'er shook hands, nor bade farewell to him, Till he unseamed him from the nave to
th' chops, And fixed his head upon our battlements.” Macbeth split him open from his navel
to his jawbone and stuck his head on our castle walls. Which is something that terrifies the
opponents as it is a true act of ruthlessness, Macdonald death would have spread a fear in
the opponents of Macbeth saying that if anyone crosses him he will not show mercy, and his
message is well sent.
From all of these characteristics what we understand from act one scene 2 is that Macbeth
is a courageous warrior who works hard for his king and people and is ruthless on the battle
ground. This scene makes us think very high of macbeth as they talk about his mightiness
throughout the scene and how he was the one who claimed the victory for his king and
people.
-Should always focus on the significance of the points made in the body paragraph to the
plot
-Show how this point in the play, forshadows what is to come
