ISSUE: Comparing the Kansas City Chiefs and the Denver Broncos
Specific purpose: My audience will see that the Chiefs are a better franchise for several reasons.
Central idea: The Chiefs are the superior organization due to their place in the annals of NFL
history, their competitive history versus the Broncos, and their place among the least cheating
Introduction
II. Introduction of topic: To contrast the Broncos, the Chiefs are not only a storied
franchise but one that has achieved a fair amount of success without all of the
III. Relation to audience: You all go to school near Kansas City, yet I fear that many of
you have not been following one of the city’s major stories: Chiefs football.
IV. Ethos: I have been a rabid Chiefs fan for over a decade, watching over 100 games
V. Preview: There are many reasons the Broncos are an inferior organization, but they
a. Lamar Hunt and his Chiefs play an important role in NFL history
c. The Chiefs have managed to remain relevant without the countless cheats the
(transition: I know, choosing an NFL team is an important decision in everyone’s life, so let us
begin by discussing the history of the National Football League and the Chiefs’ place in it)
Body
I. The Chiefs are a historic NFL team and played a major rule in the AFL-NFL merger.
b. The Chiefs played in Super Bowl I and then again in Super Bowl IV

II. The Chiefs have an overall record of 58-55-0 against the Broncos. (Including the
a. The Chiefs also have a winning record against every current AFC West team (61-
they are more competitive against other NFL teams than the Chiefs are, and the
(transition: So now we know that the Chiefs have both a historical and competitive edge over the
Broncos. So what? It’s not like either team has the moral high ground, right?)
a. The Broncos have been caught cheating more than any other NFL team- and it
ii. The Chiefs are among the least cheat-prone teams in the league.
b. Denver has a culture of egos and intra-team violence in their locker room.
(So now that you have seen that the Chiefs are not only better than the Broncos, but have
Conclusion
I. Summary:
a. The Chiefs played a vital role in making the NFL the league it is today
b. The Chiefs have historically beaten the Broncos more times than the Broncos
are safely in sole position of the highest cheater score in the league
II. Round-Off/Appeal for agreement: While history is kind of nice, it is not not the end-
all-be-all. Competitiveness is really the most important factor even if dishonesty and
sabotage are required to get there. In this case, despite the best attempts of the
Broncos to cheat their way to victory, the Chiefs have remained triumphant. The
decision is clear.
