What is a Preposition?
 A preposition is a word which shows the position of someone or something.

 It links nouns, pronouns and phrases to other words in the sentence.

A/Adjectives

What are adjectives?

Adjectives tell us something about a person or a thing.

What do adjectives modify?

Adjectives can modify nouns or pronouns/names.

Mariam is a careful girl. This is a nice car.

Where do adjectives go?

An adjective can be put before the noun. Then it is an attribute.

An adjective can be put after the verb to be (is). Then it is part of the predicate.

An adjective can belong to the group of short or long adjectives.

Characteristics of adjectives

Short adjectives

-one syllable adjective : long short….etc

-two syllable adjectives in –y(pretty), -er(clever), -le(simple),-ow(narrow),-


some(handsome)

--two syllable adjectives with the word stress on the second syllable( severe,
polite…)

Long adjectives

All the other adjectives of two syllables and more are long adjectives.

Adjectives can go after the following verbs: appear, become, feel, get, go, keep,
turn.

When we speak about what something looks like, smells, sounds and tastes - we
use the adjective.

I feel great.
She looks good.
It seems impossible.
The steak smells fantastic.

Can adjectives be used without nouns?

Yes, adjectives can be used without nouns. Mind the definite article "the":
