1. Overview
YE587x series power amplifiers are high efficient power sources to drive vibration
shakers for various vibration tests and analyses which are conducted commonly for
the product development in various industries such as aviation, spaceflight, civil
engineering, mechanical engineering, road construction etc.

3. Construction and Indication
YE5871A has three stage amplifications: a differential pre-amplification, a driving
amplification and a symmetric compensating power amplifier. In addition, there are
also accessory circuits such as a comparison circuit formed by a field effect transistor
for monitoring the operation conditions, a rectifying circuit for out put display, a
thermal circuit for the protection of overheating etc.
The appearance construction is shown in its front panel and rear panel
Front Panel
GAIN knob is for the adjustment of output current and voltage. Turn clockwise to
increase the gain. Please note to turn it to the minimal position to reduce the transient
impact before switching on the power amplifier. The minimal position is also used for
the “Reset” of the output
IMPEDANCE switch is for the selection output impedance: low impedance is for
voltage mode while the high impedance is for the current mode.
CURENT knob is for the setting of output current. The range of the output current is
from 2A to 10A in rms value.
VOLTAGE and CURRENT MEASURE is used for the monitoring of the output
current and voltage by an external instrument.
POWER switch is to switch the power supply. During power on the power indicator
glows white.
METERS are for the rms value display of output voltage (left gauge) and
current(right gauge).
PROTECT lights are for abnormal indication from Current, Temperature, Transistor
and Clipping.
Current light is on when the output exceeds the preset value. Simultaneously, the
input signal is cut off.
Temperature light is on and the input signal is cut off when temperature is higher
than 75º±5º. The light is also on if changing output modes while YE5871 is in
operation.
Transistor light is on and the input signal is cut off when there are any faults
occurring in the transistor at the output power stage.
Clipping light is on when the output voltage is too high at the output power stage. To
recover it to normal, the amplitude of the input signal must be reduced.
Rear Panel
INPUT sockets are for two types of input signals: DC or AC. DC input socket has
10kΩ input impedance and a 2Vrms input produces full output power. AC input
socket is a capacitance coupling input which has 10Hz low cutoff frequency.
Power Socket is a standard IEC three core socket. The rating voltage is 220V at
Page 6 of 9
50Hz.
Fuse holder is for the power supply mains fuse. The fuse must be replaced by the
fuse of the correct type and rating as described on the fuse rating label on the rear
panel.
OUTPUT socket is for the connection of loading shakers to YE5871.
FAN is for the ventilation and reduction of the temperature of YE5871
4. Operation Procedure
Environmental temperature
Your Caspian Power Amplifier should be located in a well ventilated area and kept
away from sources of heat, dust, humidity and direct sunlight. If it overheats, the
internal overheat protection will be activated to prevent a permanent damage.
Operating procedure:
Please read all of the following including the important cautions in Section 5 before
using YE5871A power amplifier.
1) Connect a shaker to the OUTPUT with insulated cables of sufficiently large section
area;
2) Connect AC power supply
3) Turn the gain knob anti-clockwise to the minimal position or the “reset” position.
4) Connect the input signal to the INPUT socket.
5) Select low impedance or high impedance mode according to requirement. To
change work mode while YE5871 is in operation, GAIN knob must turn to the ‘reset’
position.
6) Connect an external instrument such as an oscilloscope to current MEASURE or
voltage MEASURE if the output current or voltage is to be monitored.
7) Switch on power supply and the FAN is in operation.
8) After warm-up for 5 minutes, turn the GAIN knob clockwise up to the required
output power.
9) Turn the GAIN knob anti-clockwise to the ‘reset’ position if any warning light is on.
Switch off the power supply to find the cause of the fault.
10) Reduce the input amplitude if the CLIPPING glows yellow.
11) After a test, turn the GAIN knob to the ‘reset position’ before switch off the power
supply.
5. Cautions
1) If YE5871 is switched off one must wait for 5 minutes before switching it on again.
Continuously switching power on and off is not allowed.
2) To change work mode while YE5871 is in operation, GAIN knob must turn to the
‘Reset’ position. Otherwise, a strong electric shock would be produced and cause high
and even permanent damage to the power amplifier and shaker. However, if the mode
change is made when the GAIN knob is not in the ‘Reset’ position, temperature light
will turn on and the input is cut off. In this case the GAIN knob must be turned to the
‘Reset’ and wait for 5 minutes to recover the operation.
3) If the ‘Temperature’ light is on, this indicates an overheating problem. Turn the
GAIN knob to ‘Reset’ so the light is off. Check if this is caused by a high
environmental temperature, lengthy operation or poor ventilation. If so take
corresponding actions and wait for several minutes before re-operation.
4) If the ‘Transistor’ light is on, this indicates a problem with the transistor. Turn the
GAIN knob to ‘Reset’ to check the transistor on the printing circuit board mounted on
the radiator. To check it, open both the top and bottom covers to check if any LED
glows. If the transistor close to the lighting LED is not damaged, just replace the fuse
close to the transistor with a same size one to recover the operation.
5) If the ‘Current’ light is on, it indicates an exceeded output current. Turn the GAIN
knob to ‘Reset’ and increase the amplitude of the preset current by turning the
Page 8 of 9
CURENT knob. To recover the operation, turn the GAIN knob clockwise accordingly.
6) If YE5871 works beyond the rated frequency range: 5Hz to 10kHz, the output current
should be set to a value less than 8A. Otherwise the ‘Temperature’ is on to show overheating.
