offered an Internship Contract.

CONTEXT:

The International Organization for Migration (IOM), the UN Migration Agency is a dynamic and
growing inter-governmental organization, with 174 member states. IOM is committed to the
principle that “humane and orderly migration benefits migrants and society”. Established in
1951 and now active in over 440 field locations worldwide, IOM works with partners,
government, and civil society to promote international cooperation to address operational
challenges of migration and mobility, assist in the search for practical solutions to migration
problems, and to provide humanitarian assistance to migrants in need, including refugees and
internally displaced people. IOM addresses the migratory phenomenon from an integral and
holistic perspective, including links to development, to maximize its benefits and minimize its
negative effects.

Under the direct supervision of the Programme Support Officer and overall supervision of the
Head of Programme and Operations, the successful candidate will provide support to Project
Development activities at IOM Mozambique.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

1. Assist the Programme Support Officer with preparing and drafting of new Project
Proposals and Concept Notes.
2. Assist with liaising with Programme Managers for Project Development and Reporting
purposes.
3. Assist with Project Development and Reporting tasks in the online project management
system (PRIMA).
4. Support development of PowerPoint presentations, talking points, note-taking, and
completion of requests for information and document-reviews.
5. Assist in the gathering of information for the development of communications products.
6. Assist in the writing for monitoring reports and assessments, including post-
distribution monitoring.
7. Assist in keeping updated databases across programs and solving issues faced when
collecting and reporting monitoring data.
8. Perform other duties as may be assigned.

EDUCATION
Applicants to this internship must, at the time of application meet one of the following
requirements:

• Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum
bachelor’s level or equivalent), preferably in international relation, Communication,
Business Administration, law or any other related studies; or
• Be enrolled in a graduate degree programme (second university degree or equivalent,
or higher), preferably in the above field of study; or
• Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship
within one year of graduation.

EXPERIENCE
• While no prior work experience is required, some professional experience in working
on issues of migration and/or displacement is desirable.
• Previous working in an international organization or multi-national corporation is an
advantage.

SKILLS
• Excellent analytical thinking skills.
• Ability to work in multicultural environment.
• Ability to work under pressure and with minimum supervision.
• Hard working and pro-active.
• Solid computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office package (Office, Excel, Power
Point, Outlook), internet and Email, knowledge of Adobe Software is an asset.
LANGUAGES
Working knowledge (both oral and written) of English and Portuguese is required. Knowledge
of any UN language is an asset.
