BS DISSERTATION

Title: “Petrophysical Analysis & Correlation Between Seismic and Well Velocities of Sawan-01
WELL, Lower Indus Basin, Pakistan”

Supervisor: Muddasar Nawaz, Lecturer, Department of Earth Sciences COMSATS University, Abbotta-
bad, Pakistan.

Description:
Sawan-01 well is located in southwest Miano field (lower indus basin), Khairpur district Sindh
province, Pakistan. In Sawan-01 well the sands (stratigraphic trap) of lower Guru Formation acts
as a reservoir while Sember Limestone plays as a source rock. Through petrophysical analysis it
was concluded that lower Guru Formation is a good reservoir. By the correlation of well and
seismic velocities we suggest that the interval velocity gives better result than the migration ve-
locity for the correlation with the average velocity of well to identify reservoir depth.
FIELD STUDY
Geological field work and report writing tasks carried out:

 Nammal Gorge section of the Western Salt Range with special emphasis on stratigraphy of Upper
Indus Basin.

 Lithological Field Mapping along Nathiagali section (PACE AND COMPASS MAPPING) and
its Structural characterization.
 Identification and Field Observations of Metamorphic Facies and Grades in Kaghan and Naran
valleys of High Himalayas.
