IMPORT OF VEHICLES

Import under CARNET facility
The vehicles imported by tourist for personal purpose can
be kept in Nepal for six months either continuously or
intermittently in a period of one year from the date of entry
of vehicle into Nepal without any duty.
These vehicles, if not exported within such six months
period, shall automatically confiscated
The following period shall be counted to determine the
period of six months as mentioned in the carnet issued by
Customs:
In the custody of police due to accident, or
In garage for repair

Restrictions in relation to vehicle under
CARNET facility
These vehicles shall not be given under grant, or as
gift or sold
The other goods in the vehicles may be released in the
terms that they will be returned back along with the
vehicles mentioning the same in the carnet.

Temporary Import of Other vehicles
No duty to be levied:
Ifsuch vehicles return back to foreign country reaching the
nearest market during the same day
In case of vehicles imported under bilateral or multilateral
treaty to which Nepal is a party, the provisions of such
treaty shall apply
In case of import of tractor carrying imported goods returns
back to foreign country in empty form within 48 hours of
entry

Exceptions of 30 days rule
In case the 30 days time period is not sufficient for stay in Nepal for
special vehicle where equipments are fitted imported for the purpose
of motion picture filming, educational demonstration and
promotion of social consciousness, the DG can extend the time
limit up to maximum of 3 months on recommendation of concerned
chief of customs officer
In case such goods does not return after prescribed time, the customs
can confiscate good
Where there is genuine reason for overstay in Nepal, the export can
be permitted by collected duty as follows:
In case of bike- Rs. 1000 per day not exceeding value of bike
In case of others- Rs. 2000 per day not exceeding value of such vehicles

Other conditions for slide 8
If gas bullet, truck with trailer or trailer cannot return
back within 96 hours or 72 hours as the case may due
to:
Closure, strike, natural disaster or accident in concerned
area
the chief of customs office may add the time up to another 3
days without collecting duty
In other cases, duty as specified in slide 6 is
applicable.

the date of sales/ registration/auction shall be
applicable
