2-3. Troubleshooting (for reference)
If an error screen appears on the PC monitor as
shown on the right, check the items listed below.

EA 921 6

Q 1 : The software does not start.

A 1 : If the message shows "Only boot from CD-ROM":
Check whether you are trying to boot the software by copying the contents of the CD-ROM
onto the hard disk drive. If this is the case, insert the original CD-ROM, because this software
can only be booted from the CD-ROM.
• Check whether the OS is Windows '95, '98, Me, NT, or 2000.
This software cannot be used on Windows 3.1.

Q 2 : An error message appears when the start button is pressed.

A 2 : If the message shows "No response from DST-1":
• Check whether the DST-1 is ready. Insert the IC card into the DST-1 tester, and turn ON the
power supply switch to display the initial screen. Then, boot the software.
• Check whether the RS-232C cable is properly connected. Make sure that the RS-232C
cable between the PC and DST-1 is properly connected.
• If the message shows "8M card in slot":
• Check whether the IC card is 8MB.
The program that you are about to overwrite has been designed exclusively for an 8MB
card, so have an 8MB card ready.
• If the message shows "Confirm - 1M card download mode":
• Check whether the IC card is 1MB.
The program that you are about to overwrite has been designed exclusively for a 1MB card,
so have a 1MB card ready.
Q 3 : The rewritten software does not operate normally.
A 3 : The DST-1 does not properly recognize the system of the IC card immediately after it has
been rewritten. After rewriting, turn OFF the power supply of the DST-1. Pull out the card, and
reinsert it into the slot. Then, turn ON the power supply of the DST-1. After about 1 minute, the
initial screen will appear, and the software can be used normally.
• The program has not been overwritten correctly.
First overwrite the data using a language that is different from the language that has been
overwritten. Then, overwrite the data using the original language.

-7-
Q 4 : The overwriting of the data stops abruptly.
A 4 : The version of the data on the CD-ROM is the same or older than the data on the program
card. This software is designed to overwrite only if the data on the CD-ROM is newer than the
data on the program card. Otherwise, it is not necessary to update the data.

Q 5 : The overwriting of the data takes too long.

A 5 : This is normal. If the language of the program that is originally stored on the card differs from
the language of the program to be overwritten, it will take approximately 10 to 15 minutes for
the language of the system on the card to be rewritten. Continue overwriting without turning
OFF the power supply.

Q 6 : The software does not recognize the COM port.

A 6 : The device might not be operating normally, or there is a device conflict. Use the device man-
ager to verify the condition.

Q 7 : The power supply switch has been turned OFF while the data is being loaded.
A 7 : Replace the card, which may be damaged. (In some cases, the card can be properly rewritten
with data by performing the overwriting steps from the beginning.)

CAUTION
Never turn OFF the power supply while data is being loaded because the card could become
damaged.

Q 8 : The message shows "File not found".

A 8 : The CD-ROM that has been distributed is faulty.

Q 9 : The message shows "Only refer to CD-ROM".

A 9 : The CD-ROM that has been distributed is faulty.

Q 10 : The message shows "File could not be found".

A 10 : The CD-ROM that has been distributed is faulty.

Q 11 : The message shows "Download files over".

A 11 : The CD-ROM that has been distributed is faulty.

-8-
Q 12 : The message shows "Communication error No. 100 [ACK = XX H]". (The "XX" indicate num-
bers.)
A 12 : There is a communication error between the DST-1 and the PC. Check the items listed below
and start from the beginning.
• Are the DST-1 and the PC connected with an RS-232C cable? (Faulty contact)
• Are the communication rates of the DST-1 and the PC matched? (Communication setting)
(115,200 bps, 8-bit, no parity, 1-stop)

Q 13 : The message shows "Communication error No. 101 (len = XX). (The "XX" indicate numbers.)
A 13 : See "A12".

Q 14 : The message shows "Communication error No. 102".

A 14 : The data has not been loaded correctly. Start from the beginning.

Q 15 : The message shows "S2VUP2.HEX is old version".

A 15 : The program written on the DST-1 is an older version. Click the "OK" button to automatically
update to a new version of the program to be written.

Q 16 : The message shows "S2VUP2.HEX is not found".

A 16 : The CD-ROM that has been distributed is faulty.

The data that is output by the computer can be monitored numerically or graphically. Also, it is possi-
ble to monitor only the data that is needed. The computer data that is being monitored can be
recorded at will, and the diagnostic codes or the instances of engine stalling can be recorded auto-
matically as triggers.

ADVICE
• If you return to the main menu and execute another function without saving the data (which
was recorded during Data Recording) onto the program card, the recorded data will be
erased. Therefore, if you need the recorded data, make sure to save it onto the program
card before performing another function.
• If the Data Monitor or Data Recording function is executed before selecting a computer
data, all the computer data that is output will be applicable for monitoring.

The available recording time depends on the number of computer data items that are selected for
recording. The greater the number of selected data items, the shorter the recording time. The
smaller the number of selected data items, the longer the recording time.
The sampling time requirement depends on the number of selected data items as well as their
types. In most cases, however, the sampling time will be acceptably short if only up to three or
four data items are selected.

The activation of the trigger terminates the recording process after a certain period of time. If "1.
Manual" is selected from the menu, the trigger will activate at the time the ENTER key is pressed.
The trigger position is the position of the trigger in relation to the beginning of the available
recording time. If the available recording time is 100 seconds, for example, setting the trigger
position value to 50 causes the recording to end upon the elapse of 50 seconds after activation of
the trigger: the 100 seconds of recording time will cover 50 seconds before and 50 seconds after
the activation of the trigger. Setting the trigger position value to 25 in the same example causes
the recording to end upon elapse of 75 seconds after activation of the trigger: the 100 seconds of
recording time will cover 25 seconds before and 75 seconds after the activation of the trigger.
