I Downloading Software from CD-ROM to IC Card
To use the software that is stored on the CD-ROM, it must be downloaded to the IC card that is used
with the DST-1. Download the software to be used in accordance with the following procedure:
1. Preparation
The following pieces of equipment are necessary for downloading the software from the CD-ROM:
• DST-1 tester
• IC card
• AC adapter
• Communication cable
• PC COM port with • 95170-10490 (9-pin PC COM port)
• 95170-10410 (25-pin PC COM port)
• PC
• Windows '95, '98, Me, NT, 2000
• COM port
• CD drive
ADVICE
Exit all applications on the PC before downloading the software. Failure to do so could result in
an unsuccessful download. Exiting the screen saver program if it is being used is also recom-
mended.
-1-
2. Downloading
2-1. Procedure
(1) Connect the AC adapter and the downloading communication cable to the DST-1.
(2) Connect the AC adapter to the power outlet. Connect the communication cable to the COM port
of the PC.
ADVICE
The downloading software specifies COM port 1 as the default setting. If the PC has two or
more COM ports, connect the cable to COM port 1, if this does not pose any problems. How-
ever, if it is necessary to connect the cable to another COM port, be sure to change the COM
port setting of the downloading software before starting to download (see page 5)

2. Data Monitor Operation Method (2)
Applicable software: MAZDA ECD-V5 software
TOYOTA ECD-V3 ROM, V4, U2P software
SUZUKI ECD-V3 software
The data that is output by the computer can be monitored numerically or graphically. Also, it is possi-
ble to monitor only the data that is needed. The computer data that is being monitored can be
recorded at will, and the diagnostic codes or the instances of engine stalling can be recorded auto-
matically as triggers.
ADVICE
• If you return to the main menu and execute another function without saving the data (which
was recorded during Data Recording) onto the program card, the recorded data will be
erased. Therefore, if you need the recorded data, make sure to save it onto the program
card before performing another function.
• If the Data Monitor or Data Recording function is executed before selecting a computer
data, all the computer data that is output will be applicable for monitoring.

<Notes on available recording time>
The available recording time depends on the number of computer data items that are selected for
recording. The greater the number of selected data items, the shorter the recording time. The
smaller the number of selected data items, the longer the recording time.
The sampling time requirement depends on the number of selected data items as well as their
types. In most cases, however, the sampling time will be acceptably short if only up to three or
four data items are selected.
E A9 262
<Notes on trigger>
The activation of the trigger terminates the recording process after a certain period of time. If "1.
Manual" is selected from the menu, the trigger will activate at the time the ENTER key is pressed.
The trigger position is the position of the trigger in relation to the beginning of the available
recording time. If the available recording time is 100 seconds, for example, setting the trigger
position value to 50 causes the recording to end upon the elapse of 50 seconds after activation of
the trigger: the 100 seconds of recording time will cover 50 seconds before and 50 seconds after
the activation of the trigger. Setting the trigger position value to 25 in the same example causes
the recording to end upon elapse of 75 seconds after activation of the trigger: the 100 seconds of
recording time will cover 25 seconds before and 75 seconds after the activation of the trigger.

A group of different computer data items recorded simultaneously at a single moment is called a

<Notes on available recording time>
The available recording time depends on the number of computer data items that are selected for

E A9 262
<Notes on trigger>
