6. Couse Aim and Purpose:
This course aims to instruction of applied linguistics. The course also helps students to broaden their
perception in the field applied linguistics. Students will learn some structural theories from relevant scholar.
Especially, the course would hope students to show how the language is learnt successfully.
7. Learning Outcomes:
At the end of this course, students will be able to:
- Recognize the definitions and characteristics of applied linguistics
- Define many important terms which relate to applied linguistics
- Identify the history of both American English and British English.
- Differentiate between American English and British English.
- Apply some vital theories learning and teaching.
- Explains the reasons of learning a language.

10. Assessment Method:

1. Ongoing assessment:
* Attendance and Class participation: 10%
* Quiz/homework: 10%
* Assignment/ Presentation: 20%
* Mid-term examination: 20%

11. Description of Each Assessment


1. Regular attendance: Never absent from the class, students are given 5%
2. Class participation: In class, students are encouraged to ask questions and show their
opinions, and dare to present to the class are given 5%

3. Homework: Homework and quiz will be provided to students every week. If the students do their
homework and quiz properly, they can get 10% of total score.
4. Assignment and oral presentations: Students are to work interactively in their groups and present
their assignment to class in order to get 20 %
5. Mid-Term exams: In order to get 20 %, students are required to try their best to take the Mid-term
exams. The mid-term focuses on what the students have learnt.

6. Final examination: It is the last important assessment. It will cover the whole course book. So the
students are required to read every unit and do all the exercises in the course book at least in order to
be able to get 40 %.
