Presenter Is this your collection, Peter?
Boy 1 Yes, this is my Karate Kid collection. It’s my favourite film and
Dre is my favourite character. He’s really good! The actor is
Jaden Smith. His dad is Will Smith.
2
Presenter Peter’s mum is here. Is Peter’s collection big?
Mum Well, it’s a small collection really. He’s got about 20 things, but
some of those things are big. Look at the costume. These things
are not cheap but they’re very popular.
3
Presenter And here’s Peter’s brother. Are you a Karate Kid fan, too?
Boy 2 No! It’s boring! My favourite film is Toy Story. Buzz is cooool!

My name’s Blake. I’m from Calgary in Canada. My favourite time of year is
autumn because the trees here are orange and red and yellow and gold. It’s
fantastic!
2
My name’s Yoko. I’m Japanese but I live in America. I love my country –
spring is fantastic in Japan. There is cherry blossom on all the trees – the
flowers are small and pink and white; we have a special festival for this time of
year.
3
My name’s Paulo. I’m from Buenos Aires in Argentina. My favourite time of
year is summer. Our summer is in January! It’s hot and sunny every day so I
go swimming with my friends.

Interviewer Today I’m talking to three children about their national dishes.
Where are you from, Diego?
Diego I’m from Chile.
Interviewer Tell me about Chile’s national dish.
Diego Well, we often eat empanada. It’s a kind of bread with meat or
vegetables inside. Sometimes we have empanada with prawns.
It’s delicious!
Interviewer And what about you, Tony?
Tony I’m from Greece, and our national dish is moussaka. It’s meat
with vegetables, tomatoes, cheese and a milk sauce.
Interviewer Very nice. Katie, you’re from England.
Katie That’s right.
Interviewer And what’s England’s national dish?
Katie Oh, I think it’s fish and chips. Everyone loves fish and chips.
Interviewer Thank you Diego, Tony and Katie.

Interviewer The start of the new millennium was many years ago now. We
asked two people what they remember. Katy, where were you at
12 o’clock on 1st January 2000?
Katy I was at home in Edinburgh with my family. I was only five years
old but we all stayed up until midnight. We watched the
celebrations on TV.
Interviewer What about you, Toby?
Toby I was in London with friends. There were thousands of people in
the streets. We listened to Big Ben strike twelve and then we
watched the fireworks over the River Thames. It was an amazing
night.

Interviewer: What are you doing this summer? Have you got any plans?
A
Boy A I’m teaching my grandad about technology this summer! He’s
got a computer but he can’t send emails or use a search engine!
He’s going to pay me £2.00 an hour.
B
Girl B I’m having a technology-free summer! I’m going to see my
friends every day and we’re going to the beach. I’m having
tennis lessons, too. I’m not going online at all!
C
Boy C My plans? Well, I want to be a writer so I’m going to write a short
story. It isn’t going to be a ‘keitai’ novel or a ‘Twitter’ novel,
though. I want to write a real book.
