(2) Tourists will stay in specially designed space hotels. The first ones will probably be simple, individual
modules that are linked together. As tourism increases, these structures will be developed into grand
hotels. The activities which will be in the space are limited. There are plans to build huge space stadiums
where people can enjoy water sports and various ball games. Imagine swimming or playing ball in zero
gravity! As the number of space tourists grows, hotels will develop other kinds of entertainment as well.
(3) Surveys show that the first thing most people want to do in space is look at Earth. As you orbit Earth,
the view is constantly changing. You see mountains, deserts, oceans, rivers, clouds, and even city lights
at night. You might also see an active volcano or a forest fire. If the weather conditions are right, you
could get a bird’s eye view of the aurora borealis.
(4) Space vacations will cost money, of course, but you won’t be able to bring the forms of payment we use
on Earth. You can’t use cash because any coins with sharp
edges could damage people or equipment. Credit and debit
cards won’t work because cosmic radiation would destroy their
magnetic strips. The foreign exchange company Travelex
believes it has the answer. They have developed a form of
money called the QUID – Quasi Universal Intergalactic
Denomination. The QUID is made of a special kind of plastic and
has no dangerous sharp edges. QUIDs look like elliptical
candies, with different colors and sizes used for different
values. Each one has the image of the eight planets in the universe.
(5) Travelex has also developed a new kind of wallet to carry QUIDs and to prevent them from floating
around inside the gravity-free areas of a spacecraft. The QUIDs are stacked on top of each other in the
wallet, which is fastened at the top with Velcro.
(6) If you are from people who are interested in Space vacation, you have to start saving now. Soon you’ll
be able to buy QUIDs online and at money exchanges and pay for them with any of the world’s
currencies. Then all you’ll have to do is reach for your space wallet and go.
